Dear Liv,Hope this letter finds you well. Fuck, what has it been? Nine years? Ten? I guess it would be about nine since that’s how old our daughter is. She found me, Liv. She wants to meet us—both of us. I thought we should make the decision together. I can come to you or you can come home. I know your momma misses you something fierce. Let me know what you decide.LincolnIt’s been ten years since … decide.
Lincoln
It’s been ten years since I left. Turned my back on my home, my family, and him. I wasn’t strong enough to salvage what was left after we gave her up. I couldn’t bear to see the look of disappointment and blame in his eyes.
I should’ve fought harder for her; for us. Now, all the feelings I spent ten years burying are beginning to resurface from one letter; one single piece of paper. I’m not sure I have it in me to face my past but I know I can’t turn my back on her again; not when I gave up so easily the first time.

EDITED TO ADD…I reviewed this book 2 years ago, and at that time did not know about BookBub, or how to review here so I am fixing that now… What We Left Behind is the first book I’ve read from Nikki, but I can tell ya it sure as hell won’t be my last!! this book had allll the feels, and it was such an amazing, touching story. I loved both Liv and Lincoln…oh Lincoln *sigh* and my heart broke for everything they went through that ultimately pulled them apart, a big part of that being Liv’s guilt, and because of that guilt she not only broke Lincoln’s heart but also her own. I loved this book, and Nikki had me rooting for Liv and Lincoln from the beginning, hoping they could work things out now that they were adults, heal some of those old wounds maybe? I am so recommending this book, it was awesome!! You have to read this amazing story, and see if Liv and Lincoln can find they’re way back to each other…Thank you so much Nikki for writing this story and sharing it with the rest of us. Can’t wait to read more from you!! time
When Liv and Lincoln are forced to give up their baby as they are too young, it splits them apart. Until years later when Piper their daughter contacts them wanting to meet.
What will happen when they see each other again? Will they both want to meet their daughter?
I really liked this story.
This second chance novel is powerful. I may or may not have cried while reading it. The plot and characters are well-written and it does hit you all the right ways in the feels. I enjoyed watching Liv come home and deal with everything was simply wow.
The roller coaster of emotions of this book had me unable to put it down. Nikki really took it to the next level in being able to describe all the feelings and emotions of Liv and Lincoln. I liked the scenes of the past intermingled throughout the story so that you fully understand the depth of the characters and their history. Loved it!!!
I’m not sure if it was just me, but the prologue went pretty fast. Then the story slowed down and settled in with the second-chance aspect. The adoption story was different than most I’ve read or heard about, but Piper was a huge part in Liv and Lincoln’s story. There was angst, but not as much as expected. Everyone in this world has their own story, but I was expecting a little more, I guess. Either way, it was a sweet read with a little heartbreak thrown in.
** spoiler alert ** This was my first Nikki Sparxx book I was definately captivated with the story of Lincoln and Liv. I loved getting to know a lot of the history and their perspective that led to their situation back then and how they are now. As a read I could truly understand the sincere love and chemistry between the two characters and love for their daughter. I loved reading their story together
*spoilers*
One thing however that did leave a sour taste when reading this story was Lincoln and his treatment towards his ex girlfriend. I do understand that Liv is his is true soulmate and he wanted to leave Amber to be with Liv but to me he just came off as a real jerk especially to someone he was with almost four years. He couldn’t be fully honest even when she knew the truth and I don’t like how he just sent her in an uber by herself while drunk. It was definitely a disaster relationship since he was never committed to her in years they were a couple yet it felt like he was righteous when she’s hurting. I even shed a bit of tears imagining myself in Amber’s situation because it would hurt to love and commit to someone and having my heart broken like that.
A great story. Loved all the characters, they were so warm and happy. It was very emtional. Liv and Lincoln’s love for each other was so strong from the start. Definitely recommed.
What a lovely read. I found this to be a great second change romance, Liv and Lincoln had a history and ten years later they have to face it again, the storyline may be predictable but it’s was still a great read. Sweet emotional second chance romance.
