A secret pact. A reluctant hero. A twist of fate.
Between concerts and wedding plans, Dylan almost missed the glitch in the soul connection he shares with Heaven. Yet the truth can’t be denied for long. Something is interfering with his ability to sense her emotions, causing their empathic link to fluctuate. But when a mysterious package arrives, Dylan’s worst fears become reality. Someone seeks … reality. Someone seeks to erase Heaven from his life.
Layne is hell-bent on mending his friendship with Heaven for Dylan’s sake even if that means denying the painful truth of his heart. The more he is near her, the stronger his desire for her becomes. When Dylan enlists his help in protecting Heaven from a looming threat, Layne is torn between his duty to his friend and his passion for a woman he can never have.
Heaven’s abilities are evolving. She can sense the energy of other beings, and what she feels within Layne ignites a connection that burns soul-deep. But matters of the heart will have to wait. Someone is making threats on her life, threatening to expose dark family secrets that will alter the course of destiny. Can Dylan and Layne help Heaven find her mysterious stalker in time to stop their malicious plan? Or will the blade of their hidden truths slice the trio apart?
What the Heart Needs is the second installment in the Soulmate Series. If you like alluring romances with suspense, soulmates, and supernatural twists, you’ll love Kelli McCracken’s compelling take on love, fate, and destiny.

This would be an excellent book to read to curl up on your couch, hunker down and prepare for a great read.
I would definitely recommend reading this series in order. It will to understand the characters and what is going on. This story will leave you with a warm feeling, it is just that good. Yes there is some secrets and yes they will drive you crazy trying to figure out. There is some suspense but nothing that makes your heart speed up. I was able to figure out where things were going.
The writing style was on point. Mc. McCracken does an excellent job of creating a world that drags you in and keeps your interest.
The events of this book pick up where the last left off and that makes the series that much more enjoyable. I am enjoying watching this series unfold. The bond between Dylan and Heaven is beautiful, and the many twists and turns make it addictive. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
Better than in book one, Dylan and Heaven’s story continues.
With all that has already happened, Dylan is sure that his soulmate Heaven is the one and only for him and is determined to marry her. But his father is hell-bent to destroy the relationship at all costs, and only his mother can help Dylan to stop Nate. To complicate the relationship more, Layne does not know what to make of his feelings for his best friend’s girl, and Faith makes his life a hell on earth. If that wasn’t enough, Heaven’s father isn’t happy with the intended marriage either, and that is not the only driver for distortion of the harmonic relationship. Someone wants Heaven at all cost, and the secrets can be costly.
A very romantic story with dark undertones caused by jealousy, violence, and ominous mysterious threats to Heaven’s life. The magical aspects of the story finally start to surface, and the reader gets more information about the background and what is at stake. The development in the characters is very nice and the complications in the relationships among them keeps the tension in the story. The last part of the story is a great motivation to continue reading the series and find out what exactly is going on, as some secrets still remain hidden.
Heaven, Dylan, and Layne learned more about their bond and their powers and all grew closer. This book definitely impressed me. I gave the first one four stars because I was back and forth on it a bit, but I loved this second book. It was action packed and kept me interested! Look forward to finding out what’s in store for this fated trinity !!
Continues on the rocky journey
Heaven, newly engaged college student, and her rock star fiancé, Dylan, have spent time trying to get a handle on the events that occurred in What the Heart Wants. As the story progresses new discoveries are made, issues from the past come barreling in, and getting everything in the open may not be enough to save them. Kelli McCracken’s What the Heart needs gives the reader everything they need to continue on the rocky journey set before these characters. The boulders that have been thrown in the way just make you want to cheer for a happy ending.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
i love Heaven and Dylan so much and that ending was amazing i cant wait to read the next book
What the Heart Needs is book two in Kelli McCracken’s Soulmate series. The author picks up where book one left off with Dylan and Heaven becoming engaged and reveling in their love and soul bond with each other. The road ahead for Dylan and Heaven is not going to be an easy one with the dangers that lie ahead, but if their love can remain true then they just might make it.
What the Heart Needs sees Dylan and Heaven’s relationship tested in a variety of ways. The author continues with Heaven’s sister Faith being trouble on heels. Layne is struggling with everything that is going on around him. Faith is tormenting him, but hiding his love for Heaven is driving him crazy. The author gives me more of what I was wanting in book one. I get more of the various characters psychic abilities. I like how each of them are different and have their own distinctions. I love that we finally get some of the backstory of what has caused things to be the way that they are. Piece by piece it all comes together and begins to make sense. There are still questions that need answers, but I can tell that we’re getting there.
Maybe I have a soft spot for Layne because I feel bad for him, but I really felt for him in this book. Faith really puts him through the ringer, but I am desperate to know…who is the REAL father of her child?! Layne makes mistakes in this book but so does Dylan. I just have to wonder…if the roles were reversed…would he want Heaven to handle things differently than he does? I also didn’t like how Heaven just cries for no reason in some scenes. There isn’t anything wrong, but she cries. She’s a soft character, but I don’t like her always acting like/being a damsel in distress.
I have to say that I really did enjoy this book though. Compared to the first book this one really hooked me in and kept me page-turning to the end. I had to put this book down for a few hours and I couldn’t stop wanting to know what was about to happen next. I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. This book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger like the first book, but ends things on a happier note. I am looking forward to reading the next book to see where things go between Dylan, Heaven and Layne.
Love how this book continues the story and it’s very well written. This is a true page turner with twists and turns that you didn’t see coming. The suspense is thrilling and I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I love how the caracters grow in this story.
Holy infodump, Batman… I still don’t know what’s going on. Really, this book alone, I would probably give 3 stars. Even with all the information, it feels like there’s another series out there that is a predecessor to this one, and I feel like I need it to really “get” this plot and all the information in it. I have no idea where it’s heading, either, and on top of it, more and more developments happen. There’s no single clear bad guy, but plenty of guesses. It’s definitely not a light read, by any means. I’m hoping the next book will produce a more defined trajectory with a furthering plot. It’s enough to want more.
This book had me by the emotions from beginning to end. I cannot wait for the next book. Highly recommended and wonderful author.
WOW! book 2 continues Heaven’s and Dylan’s story and what it a story it has come to be! Full of intriguing twists and secrets abound, this story had me on totally immersed and emotional. Great character and plot development and so well written, I felt I was right there living their story with them. Excellent read and totally recommend this series to all.
This book starts slow at the start and then builds from there.
Dylan and heaven have many challenges to overcome in this book. Their relationship is getting stronger along with the connection.
I do love this series and can’t wait to see how book 3 comes along.
This book picks up where the first one left off. The characters are great but the storyline is a little off. It gives you pretty much everything you need to know about what is going to happen and have everything figured out before it’s even going to happen. At least in my opinion. Heaven and Dylan have a special bond that causes them to not be able to be apart for long, it’s a soul bond. Layne is in love with Heaven and is willing to try the friends way with her even though he feels so much more for her. It’s a sacrifice he is willing to make for his friend especially when her life is in danger.
All in all it’s a great story, a love story with your love triangle where there could be an RH involved?
The plot really spurs forward in this second book!
I still am in love with all the characters because they all bring something different to the table.
The antagonists are very antagonistic (haha) and incredibly well written, so much so I want to kick them in the shins in protest for their crap.
The romance is super sweet and absolutely adorable and the paranormal aspect really hots up in this one.
Beautifully Written, Lovely Read!
So this is the second installment in the Soulmate Series and it’s every bit as good as the first. Its well written with an alluring romances, suspense, supernatural twists love, fate, and destiny. As the story progresses Heaven and Dylan’s love continues to grow, secrets are revealed yet more also appear adding to the mystery and intrigue and there’s more excitement and magic! The world building is incredible and I found myself totally engrossed in the addictive storyline and am excited to read more!
Although book 1 was loosely Paranormal this moves more towards the paranormal feel to it . Romance with a love triangle, Very well written and the complexities of the relationships are well detailed and most likely will tug a few heart strings.
Definately a love storey and although different from what i normally read i can say that it is certainly very well written with exceptionally well defined characters. Sweet in places, heavy on Romance and with a good level of heat.
I really enjoyed reading this great story full of great characters, action and suspense. I didn’t want to put it down. Love all of the twists.
I received an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily giving an honest review
Very intriguing story! There are some huge revelations which leave us wanting more. Heaven and Dylan are perfect for each other. We find more about the soulmates and the abilities they have. I feel like Layne is really getting the raw end of the deal and really hope things change for him in the next book.
This was a great second book. It picks right up where we left off. There were so many revelations in this book that I cannot wait to see what happens next.
Read book one and this is just as good, it picks up where we left book one, it hooks you from the first page, very much enjoyed read this, cant wait for book three to see what is installed next for our characters.
