He’s wanted her since he repossessed her car and made her cry.Baylor Hail knew two things. One, he hated crying females. Two, it was even worse when he was the one to make that female cry.He never meant to do anything but his job, but when one thing leads to another, suddenly all he can think about is the broken woman whose car he towed. She’s wanted him since he patted her back and told her it … her back and told her it was okay to cry even though she knew he was lying.
Nothing ever goes right for Lark.
Not when she got married. Not when she tried to leave her abusive husband, and not when she arrived in a new town with a fresh, clean slate.
That clean slate came courtesy of a secret organization that specializes in helping abused women find a way out. They set her up with a whole new life. It just turns out that it happened to be right smack dab in the middle of another woman’s old one.
That woman also happens to be down on her luck, something that Lark learns the hard way when on her first day there, her car is towed by a handsome stranger.
It’s been two years since she’s felt any kind of sexual attraction toward a man, and she reacts badly. We’re talking full-on, hysterical breakdown as he loads her car onto his tow truck while looking at her like she’s lost it.
Maybe being crazy isn’t all that bad.
The next thing she knows, she’s spending time with the sexy stranger and life couldn’t be better—even though she still doesn’t have a car.
She thinks she’s in the clear, that she’s got it all figured out… well, that is until her ex-husband finds her again.
Now the ball is in her sexy stranger’s court as he decides whether or not her kind of crazy is worth getting killed over.
Turns out, for Baylor Hail, maybe it is.

Lark was a character that i had the most emotional link to. her story of abuse was one that hit very close to home. Baylor was someone that every person that is in Lark’s situation needs. Baylor, like all of LLV’s male chatacters is the perfect mix of asshole and protector with a little bit of trouble maker. His personality countered Lark’s just right.
this book i can say is one of my favorites when it comes to this series. I was able to connect with the female character on a personal level. and that made me stay engulfed in the book.
some questions i had about the character Rafe were answered in this one, but then more were added. and it was nice to have some of the Freebirds make an appearance again.
This one has it all.
Love, loss, a touch of suspense and that bit of hilarity you need to get beyond the tough stuff.
Lark arrives in Hostel with a new name, a ready made home, job and car.
Running from an abusive ex this is her new start, everything is bound to be better now.
Right?
Sadly a fresh start isn’t always what it should be.
Baylor Hail. He’s kind of the loner in his family. Not that he isn’t there for everyone, he is, he just doesn’t really spend time with women.
When he meets Lark it’s a bad situation, he’s there to tow her car and she’s in tears, tears he doesn’t handle emotionally.
It’s a job, he’s got to take the car but something about this woman nags at him, he can’t get her out of his head, and that’s not something he’s used to.
The Hail Raisers series is exactly what you would expect from the author. Full of passion and men who protect their own, work hard, love harder and try to do the right thing at all times.
Baylor is my new favorite, I’ve adored many of this authors characters but I do believe he may be my overall favorite.
From the beginning of this book your routing for Lark to get her happily ever after. Especially after learning of the bad hand she has been dealt the last decade. But when Baylor and Lark meet there’s an instant inner connection between the two. Lark tries to keep her past a secret from Baylor due to fear of it ruining her future with him. Due to a rude neighbor those plans change and the dark past finally catches up to Lark.
Go read this book to find out what exactly happens, you won’t be disappointed. Plus read the other books from this series, they are great too.
This book was both exactly what I was expecting and yet it didn’t really play out how I was expecting at all.
I was expecting Lark to be meek and mild and probably a little broken. So I was really happy to discover she was such a fighter. She had gone through hell and yeah, she was still a little haunted by everything she had gone through but she was determined to live her life and enjoy it.
Baylor was everything that I expected. He was so protective of Lark and so gentle with her. The whole story kept me turning pages to see what was going to happen next. I really need to author stalk and find out if there’s more books about the freebies and get Rafe’s story.
OMG I can’t wait for Dante’s story because that little girl in his arms made me hope I could get through the heartbreak of his story.
I laughed, & I got misty eyed, this book was super entertaining. Baylor and Lark have fantastic chemistry. Their journey together was a little rough but the outcome was worth it. Loved how Baylor was so careful and caring if Lark even if it was hard for him to let her cry on his shoulder. Ms. Lani Lynn Vale certainly knows how to write a beautiful, heartwarming story.
Baylor and Lark’s story is one that will take you from a bad mood to a fantastic mood in minutes. Lark’s background is one that none of us would ever want to endure but this brave woman has managed to break away from her past with the assistance of some of our past favourites. When Baylor and Lark lay eyes on each other something sparks between them and it is something that neither of them will be able to avoid. As incidents occur that seem to keep affecting Baylor in the most private of areas that even though are quite series, these moments will have you literally rolling around on the floor laughing so hard that tears will be spilling down your face. What The Hail was my monthly fix of my favourite author Lani Lynn Vale and this was a book I just didn’t want to end. Baylor and Lark will have you so consumed in their story you will be devastated when you come to the last page and will find yourself quoting the title WHAT THE HAIL, its’ finished noooooooo. Your heart will break for Lark for what she has survived but your heart and soul will be repaired by the love these two will discover. Another fantastic five star read in the Hail Raisers series.
Baylor and Lark’s story was amazing. It had a little bit of everything. I really enjoyed this read.
Ugghhh.
I really just want to bang my head against the wall. I hate to say this because I just am not loving LLV’s books lately, especially this series. The story is severely lacking and I swear I had barely started reading the damn book before Lark and Baylor are in love. I seriously thought I missed something and daydreamed during half of the book, but nope. They never even spent enough time together to be falling in love. It was a hot mess and Lark was a weak ass character with her antisocial self. Baylor wasn’t much better. I couldn’t tell you one thing about him. I feel like he did a terrible job trying to protect Lark and so did Rafe because someone should have been dealt with that asshole Harold. I’m just so disappointed with this book. I may need a break from LLV.
Being a tow truck driver comes with certain expectations; pleading, begging, tears, anger, and violence top the list. For Baylor is a bit of a rush, not knowing what will happen at the next pick up, what he doesn’t expect is for the tears she shed to bother him as much as they did. He even goes the extra step to make sure that she gets her stuff after the fact, even though that’s against policy. He doesn’t really know what to make of Lark, he just knows that there is something that makes him want to make her his.
For Lark, her car being towed was just another check on the crappy things to happen, and that was just the first time it happened. Being thrown into the life she has now has come with its challenges but she isn’t going to give up. She doesn’t understand why she has this pull towards Baylor, by all rights she shouldn’t trust men ever again, but he has something that makes her gravitate towards and she doesn’t regret it at all….. that is until her past shows up to ruin everything she has worked towards. Can Baylor help her make it to the other side in one piece? Will Lark let the past win?
So this is part of a series, and TBH I do suggest that you just read from Boomtown on, as this just makes the experience so much better! Lani Lynn Vale has this knack for spinning a story that it plays like a movie in your head. You get sucked into this world she created and its absolutely amazing. I loved that we got to see some of our fave characters from previous books. With drama that has you on the edge of your seat, moments that have you almost sobbing, that right amount of violence, and some funny (seriously laughing out loud) bits to round out this read. This is a 5 star read all the way!
Lani Lynn Vale has outdone herself with this series! I loved the KPT SWAT series and I didn’t think she’d be able to top it, but this one runs a very close second!
Lani Lynn Vale has a magnetic way with words. I adore her style and her stories even more. Most of her books are practically standalones and can be read individually but in all honesty everybody needs to read every book to fully get the experience. The author has a recommended reading order and other fun little things on her site (http://www.lanilynnvale.com/book-lists/)
Although based on the snippets we got about the characters I didn’t think I will like them quite as much as I did.
There is a fun element to all of Lani Lynn Vale’ stories but in What the hail it’s a bit more prominent and personally I laughed my ass off on it. The plot has a duality to it. Mainly it’s a about the connection and the relationship between Baylor and Lark but there is a pretty important suspense plot woven into it as well. The book is sweet and sour, funny and shocking at the same time. It has pretty phenomenal dynamic and several twists and emotional events in it. I loved every minute of the plot even if I think that the conflict regarding the suspense was a bit frustrating.
I liked Lark and Baylor individually and together as well. They had mesmerizing chemistry and a really fantastic partnership. Both of them are strong but in a different way. Lark went through a lot, got abused quite a bit but she is resilient, hard working and passionate. Well her fascination with blood is a bit strange though.
Then there is Baylor who is cranky and a bit isolated man because he lost is dream job due to an injury and constant pain. Yet, he is not giving up, finding new and new things to care about, to focus on.
I loved the interactions and the little moments between them, I think they are my fave couple among the Hail raisers.
This book was a perfect blend of humor, romance, drama and action. I enjoyed every page of it and really glad that I discover this author and that she is as productive as she is. I mean at least a book a month is a fantastic rate, if you ask me.
Love Baylor and Lark. This series is amazing. The Hail Brothers are all big badass alphas. And their woman are sassy and funny.
This is the 4th book in the Hail Raisers series, and so far, has been one of my favorites. This book is about Baylor and Lark. Baylor, of course, is one of the Hail brothers, and works in their auto recovery/towing company. Lark is a woman with a haunted past. If you’ve followed Lani Lynn Vale’s work from the beginning, (like most of us have, LOL) you will understand what I mean when I say she is one of the freebirds. If not, shame on you! You have a lot of catching up to do! But in all seriousness, beginning with her very first book, Boomtown, we learn of the Freebird project. The men of Free rescue women and children from dangerous situations, usually domestic related, and relocate them with new identities, lives, etc. Lark is one of these women. But the past continues to haunt her.
Baylor is sweet, cocky, a loner. But he feels for Lark from the first meeting. He treats her in a way that she isn’t used to being treated, like a woman is supposed to be treated. Lark gets to me in a way that a lot of female characters do not, probably due to her self defeating attitude. She goes about every day, knowing that this could be the last day of freedom that she has from her crazy, abusive ex. As many tragic characters with horrible pasts have been in Lani Lynn Vale’s books, Lark just makes me feel…..some kind of way.
One of the most interesting things about the LLV books, is the snarkiness of the characters. This story is no exception. I love the interplay between characters, and how they throw the sarcasm at the drop of a hat. Between that and the fast paced, never know what’s gonna happen next, action at the drop of a hat, this book will keep you glued to your kindle until the very last word. All of the Hail books have been great, but each one keeps getting better. Each book builds on the next, creating a complex world that intertwines with each chapter, each book, each series, until you feel like you know each character personally. Its a beautiful thing!
Lark needs a fresh start more than most people. When an organization helps her escape her abusive ex husband and set her up with a new identity she jumps at the chance. Her new start isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, however, when she’s dropped right in the middle of another’s woman’s life who was down on her luck. She’s got bills she didn’t rack up, a car that’s been repossessed and her one and only contact in the new town is a total jerk bent on making life miserable for everyone around him.
The day Baylor showed up to repossess her car was life changing. He never wanted to make her cry. He’s also never wanted to make someone feel life everything was going to be okay as badly as he wanted to for Lark. He knows she’s broken but he can’t seem to get her out of his system. And, hey, he’s a little broken too.
Their attraction is undeniable. Lark’s luck is simply atrocious. And, Baylor’s determined to be the man that can make Lark feel safe and loved and fix all of her problems.
Just when things seem to be going their way, Lark’s safety is compromised when her abusive ex finds her. Now it’s up to Baylor to convince Lark that running isn’t the answer and that he can be her hero.
While this is book four in the Hail Raisers series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. I love Lark’s strength and determination to escape her old life of abuse and start again. Her courage is amazing and Lani did a tremendous job writing this character.
Baylor is an extremely complex alpha male. He’s got demons of his own, but can’t get Lark out of his system. He immediately sees that their brokenness works to ease one another. No matter how many times fate tries to step in his way, he’s determined to make her his . . . even when she tries her damnedest to push him away to keep him safe from her ex.
This story really packs a powerful punch. It’s got some really funny moments between Baylor and Lark as well as between the Hail brothers. The suspense element of Lark’s past catching up with her also had me turning page after page. You just knew he was going to show up and cause trouble, but not where or when or how. It’s also a fantastic love story. I kind of fell in love with Baylor . . . he really was everything Lark didn’t know she needed. 5 Stars!

GREAT story! Loved Baylor & Lark, highly enjoyed the action & just pretty much everything about this story! These two have a lot of together time, banter, and the story kept a good pace throughout. I also enjoyed the snippets into other stories. Thumbs up!! : )
Lark finds help through an organization to leave her abusive husband and assume another identity. An assumed life that already has turmoil broiling in it. You can’t help but feel for Lark she just can’t seem to get a break. Then to top it all off her car gets towed for payments being in arrears. The tow truck driver is none other than super hot Baylor Hail. He does his job but can’t get Lark out of his thoughts.
I love these two. Their bantering is beyond description. It just made it more realistic and pulled me in that much more into the story. I love the twists of humor too. There were several times I laughed out loud.
Lark is proving what a strong tough young lady she is. She’s determined to get live life on her terms. Baylor is just as determined to help her and when push comes to shove to knock down all those stumbling blocks in her way.
When Lark’s past finds her these two are in a fight for their lives.
I love the glimpses we get of Rafe. I think he’s a very intriguing not only as another champion for Lark. I hope we get to know him better in future books.
This book is very well written and has everything that I could crave in a book. Great characters, humor, intrigue, suspense, ‘hotness’, great dialague between the characters…
What the Hail is Book 4 in The Hail Raisers Series. It can be a stand alone. In fact this is the first book in the series I have read. The first book I have read by this author. The only thing I can say now is that I’m throughly addicted to this series and now consider any book written by Lani Lynn Vale a ‘must’ read.
I flipping love Lani Lynn Vale everyone of her books draws me into it’s clutches and doesn’t let go until I get to the words THE END even then these stories stay with me well after that . If you haven’t read a book by this author you need to right away I suggest that you start with the Freebirds series first because alot of those amazing characters are mentioned throughout every LLV series . As said before every time I get my hands on a LLV book I devour it with What the Hail I felt the same maybe even more so because I’ve always been intrigued with what the Freebird men do and to read a story from a birds perspective and glimpses from Sam the man that had Lani Lynn Vale on my favorite must read authors . You can read this as a standalone but I suggest that you at least read Burn in hail first or the series in order well worth the binge read time (wink) . Baylor and Lark make appearances throughout the series manly book three you can feel the sexual chemistry between them , I was so excited for them and to know their back stores and wasn’t disappointed . The couple are one another’s other half both have scars on the inside and out they share a strong bond , the things they do for one another had me swooning for them both , little “accidents ” that happen to the hero had me die laughing while cringing on the inside and the sex scenes are super HOT . Oh my gosh Baylor I couldn’t wait for his book after finishing Go to hail he does the tows that no one wants to do so in doing that he meets the heroine , like all LLV heroes he’s alpha protective , funny , and one hell of a dirty talker . Really liked Lark she hasn’t been having good luck so when she starts to be with the hero things start to look up even when hilarious incidents occur she gets family and friends people who care . I’m so excited to see whats to come for this author we get little hints of future couples and Dante makes an appearance but he is not alone this time . Another thing I love about these books is getting more of past couple and seeing them create family and interact / play tricks on one another . The Hell you say is next it’s Krisney and Reeds story and I just know it’s going to pool on my heart strings . What the Hail is a must read it has everything you need in a book characters that are lovable , story line that keeps you hooked , and hilarious , sad , angry ,shocking , pantie melting moments .
