It was supposed to be the perfect getaway, but a knock at the door could ruin their lives. “Mesmerizing. A captivating page-turner about fear, loss, and the ties that bind. This is O’Brien at her finest.” – Meghan O’Flynn, bestselling author of The Ash Park Series After her recent separation, Tabitha Weaver is holding her life together by a thread. Luckily, her six closest friends have the … Luckily, her six closest friends have the perfect cure for heartbreak: a weekend in the countryside complete with relaxation, a blind date, and all the wine she can handle.
But it isn’t long before their night at the secluded rental house goes sour. The drinks flow a little too freely and lingering tensions arise before they’re interrupted by frantic knocking at the door. The stranger claims to have been in an accident, and though her head is bleeding, she refuses to let them call an ambulance.
With Tabitha distracted by her new beau, another friend leaving to check out the scene of the accident, and the rest of the group busy feuding, they lose track of the stranger’s whereabouts. It isn’t until she wakes up with a hangover that Tabitha finds a note on her dresser: Don’t stop until you find it.
Tabitha disregards the note, and the evening, and returns home believing the weekend is behind her. But when the strange woman is reported missing, the police start circling—the group must reexamine their accounts of what happened that night. And the discrepancies in their stories cannot be overlooked. It doesn’t help that the police have discovered clues to suggest foul play.
As the evidence mounts against them, loyalties are tested. Tabitha is desperate to find the truth about what happened to the woman.
Which of her friends is lying? Who can she trust?
A gripping psychological suspense for fans of Kiersten Modglin, Meghan O’Flynn, and Abigail Haas. If you liked Ruth Ware’s In a Dark, Dark Wood , you’ll love What She Found.
“Addictive, terrifying, and absolutely twisted, O’Brien has masterfully crafted a web I couldn’t figure out and won’t soon forget.” -Kiersten Modglin, author of The Good Neighbors

A group of friends get together for a weekend party at an isolated house. With a plot like that, I was immediately drawn to this story. Add the fact that a mysterious stranger (a woman) shows up after a car accident, then disappears, and the foundation of the book is strong. I couldn’t wait to dive in! The night of the party everyone is drinking, and no one has a clear memory of what happened the next morning. There are conflicting stories about what took place, and soon the police are involved, along with whispers of murder.
I wanted to love this book, but I had problems with how most of the characters behaved, especially how easily they believed lies that were put forth about other members of their group. I just couldn’t believe friends would behave that way–turning on each other so quickly, after knowing one another for years. Maybe one or two people in the group, but the majority, if not all?
Pretty much no one (with the exception of Tabitha, the narrator, who is going through a divorce) is who they seem. Each has an agenda, many are up to their necks in lies or coverups. Admittedly, there were several places where I couldn’t read fast enough to discover what happened. The book is well-written, but when the ending arrived, I found the plot too far-fetched and the behavior of the characters unrealistic. I’m sure many other readers will enjoy this story. I would read this author again, this story just wasn’t quite right for me. 3.5 Stars.
Just how tight are the ties that bind? Addictive and unsettling, O’Brien’s latest will drag you in and hold you tight. Highly recommend for fans of Abigail Haas and Tana French.
A GRIPPING AND SURPRISING THRILLER !
Like every year for many years, TABBIE used to meet her best friends at an annual vineyard meeting.
They all know each other very well and they don’t have any secret for each other…
This year, for the first time, a foreigner takes part in this meeting.
And an unknown, lost woman knocks on the door asking for help…
Tabbie doesn’t know it yet, but her life is about to change…
—————————
The first time I read the beginning of this book I didn’t like it : too many characters, a confusing plot and a fairly dépressive main character…
But I was completely wrong !
After the first quarter of the novel I started to get addicted to this captivating story !
It was such a thrilling thriller to read.
And I couldn’t guess the surprising ending !
A mysterious read that I do recommend !
What She Found
Emerald O’Brien
What She Found, is the first one of O’Brien’s books that I’ve read. It was an addictive, page turner and a easy read. It feels like forever that I’ve read a novel so skillfully wrote. It was one very captivating, suspenseful thriller. O’Brien had me hanging on to each word ready for next clue to help solve the case.
The main character had been warned many times by the detective about her friends secrets, lies, manipulation & deception. He warned her to keep her distance from them.
The entire way through this I was never able to figure out which character’s might just be the killer.
What She Found by Emerald O’Brien is such a wonderful story that I haveread. I can not wait to read more from this author I loved reading this story. I highly recommend this story to everyone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
“What She Found” proves to be a story that I found myself fully invested in! Unputdownable! With an ending I did not see coming…A mile away!
Emerald O’Brien offers generous amounts of shock value! She puts twists in this story that appear like a blind curves in the road!
I loved all of the friends! The drama! The baggage! The secrets! The Stranger!!
The goosebumps I consistently got!
Be Sure to Grab “What She Found” and be prepared to be Wow’d!
This novel!! This novel grabbed me from the very beginning. I became completely immersed in it and the story had me at the edge of my seat. It was suspenseful, marvelously twisted and rattled my brain, trying to guess what could possibly happen next! Emerald O’Brien wrote “What She Found” perfectly, giving me the heebie-jeebies.
Trust is a big word. The main character, Tabbie takes a bombshell hit when her husband wants a separation. I feel nothing but heartbreak for Tabbie as her life seems to be spiraling down at a quick pace. A weekend trip in a secluded house with friends, seems just what she needs; until a stranger knocks on the door. “We’re all here. Who would be knocking this late at night?” What happens next really makes Tabbie ask herself if she really knows her friends, after all these years.
I’m a new fan of Emerald O’Brien’s books. She has cleverly written a keen who-dun-it revealing her gift of writing. Don’t hesitate to snatch this book, but, my advice, read with the lights on!
~This book was given to me in a giveaway in exchange for a fair and honest review.~
A close knit group of friends who have pledged to always be there for each other. Their annual getaway weekend with lots of fun and lots of drinking. A strange woman knocking on the door at night in the middle of a thunderstorm, a cut on her head and her car wrecked. A great setup for a mystery. It was a dark and stormy night…….This book left me doubting most of the characters at one point or another. The story was told by Tabbie, who is going through a divorce. She was the only one I didn’t doubt but everyone else seemed to. As evidence of a crime mounts it seems that someone may be trying to frame the group. But who? I really didn’t see the ending coming! The characters’ stories were well developed over the course of the book with enough left out to add to the suspense. This book was very well written with the suspense building throughout. I couldn’t put it down. It’s the first book Of Ms O’Briens’ that I have read but it certainly won’t be the last. I wish to thank the author and BookFunnel for giving me a copy to read and review and for allowing me to discover a new author.
Suspenseful thrillers are my favorite type of read! can never get enough! What She Found was great. It was twisted and full of edge of your seat suspense. Some things were a bit far-fetched, but it still makes for a great story! This book is definitely worth a read!
Exceptional book. Great plot. Couldn’t put it down. One of her best stand alone books. Must read.
Guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. The twists and turns keep coming until the very end. I recommend this book to everyone who likes thrillers, mysteries and suspense.
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest mystery from Ms. O’Brien. Although I can’t say that I felt a deep affinity for any of the characters, they were certainly colorful, and the actual story kept me engaged and turning pages late into the night. The author did a good job of drawing me in slowly, so that by the end of the book, I was fully invested in seeing Tabitha, the main character, vindicated. I felt a certain amount of pity for her and everything she had been through, and somewhere along the way, I began rooting for her to come out of her depression and stand up for herself. As with any good mystery, the story had plenty of twists and turns, and kept me guessing right up to the very surprising conclusion. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author, and will definitely be looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.
If you love a great read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, look no further!! Twists, turns, drama, lies, backstabbing and murder is just some of the goodness you get with this read. Interesting characters and a keep you guessing story line keeps you invested throughout the whole book. I did not want to put this one down once I started reading it.
A roller coaster of a read! The evening begins with a toast to a dead friend…her six closest friends are gathered together at a holiday rental. They have vowed to always be there for each other but there are disquieting undercurrents swirling beneath the surface this evening. An unexpected visitor arrives and events take a sinister turn. As tensions spiral the bonds of friendship begin to fall apart. So many twists and turns …you won’t see this ending coming. This book is a riveting read and will keep you turning pages right up until the end.
Read as a free ARC from the author but this voluntary review is my honest opinion.
This is an ensemble story involving a number of people. It opens with a group of friends gathered for a weekend in wine country. Although the group considers themselves to be family, there is tension and secrets that slowly emerge. A woman appears and mysteriously vanishes. This sets the basis for the entire rest of the book. Despite all the clues, it is impossible to figure out what happened until the very end, and by that time the family bonds have been destroyed, and the dark side of each character revealed. The action and interactions are very realistic, and the baggage carried by each of the characters becomes visible and affects the action. Before the story ends, murder, affairs, addictions, and disease all show up. This is a very intense and realistic book.
I received an ARC of this book from the author, Emerald O’Brien, via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. This book grabbed my attention from the beginning and the suspense kept me on edge and guessing about who did it until the end. About the time I had it figured out there was a twist in the beginning mystery of who Karina was and what happened to her. As that mystery was evolving, other mysteries had to be solved and all were linked to the first one. I loved this book and read it in one afternoon because it was so good that I could not put it down. Every book by this author that I have read have been great, but this one was my favorite because of all the suspense and it is a standalone with no cliffhanger. I would give it ten stars if I could. I highly recommend this fantastic book.
If you love mysteries with twists and turns , then look no further than What She Found. The twists and turns begin right out of the gate and continue until the end. I love Emerald O’Brien’s books and I can’t wait to read more
This is a great story.
This book well written, fast paced, entertaining and story line with lots of suspense and intriguing mystery and interesting characters.
The many twists and turns will keep you guessing until the end.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It was supposed to be a wonderful relaxing getaway for Tabitha, that her six friends have planned for her. They get settled in, drink wine and are having a great time. Tabitha is getting to know her blind date friend that has been invited also, when there is a pounding on the door and a distraught woman said she has had an accident. One of the friends goes with her. Everything changes the next day when the distraught woman is missing. How well do the friends really know each other. While they try to decide who is lying and knows more than they are saying, I was also trying to solve the mystery. It will keep you guessing to the very end.
Holy, WOW! I haven’t read a story that I couldn’t figure out what was going to happen in a really long time, but this story sure had me stumped! The twists, turns and betrayals take you on such a roller coaster of a ride that leave you frantically flipping pages to see what happens! I’m so thankful to have recieved a review copy of this story and find this amazing new to me author, I can’t wait to devour more!
