For years, he’s been an object of fear, fascination… and fantasy. But of all the wicked rumors that shadow the formidable Alexander Moncrieffe, Duke of Falconbridge, the town knows one thing for certain: only fools dare cross him. And when Ian Eversea does just that, Moncrieffe knows the perfect revenge: he’ll seduce Ian’s innocent sister, Genevieve — the only Eversea as yet untouched by scandal. … scandal. First he’ll capture her heart… and then he’ll break it.
But everything about Genevieve is unexpected: the passion simmering beneath her cool control, the sharp wit tempered by gentleness… And though Genevieve has heard the whispers about the duke’s dark past, and knows she trifles with him at her peril, one incendiary kiss tempts her deeper into a world of extraordinary sensuality. Until Genevieve is faced with a fateful choice… is there anything she won’t do for a duke?

What happens if a Duke discovers his fiancee in bed with a naked man? Read this book to find out! This is one of the best historical romances I’ve ever read. The characters are unique, they’ll surprise you in every chapter, and then you’ll want to read every book that Julie Anne Long has ever written.
5 Stars!
Revenge gets turned on its head in this book when a very self-aware and overtly confident Duke sets out to debauch a heartbroken, yet perceptive and mature heroine. The author manages to take an infamously and unfairly(?) disliked character and reveal an impossibly more complex hero who is the perfect counterbalance to Genevieve’s …
If I could only recommend one romance novel to a romance reader or first-time romance reader, it would probably be this one. This book is perfection on both an emotional level and also from a craft perspective. The banter between the enigmatic Duke of Falconbridge and clever Genevieve Eversea is some of the best I’ve ever read. They have amazing …

This story has earned a cherished place on my all time favorite HR list. I finished the book hours ago and I’m still trying to find the words to express how incredible it was, how the story made me feel while reading it. And I can’t come up with anything that would do it justice. This story hit all the feels in a way few others have, so… this …
Well Done!
The main characters in this story each suffered severe heartbreak. However, a thread of humor lasts from beginning to end. The age difference between Alex and Genevieve was a bit too wide to me, and references to Alex being old were a little offputting. Still, Genevieve was mature despite her youth and was a good match for Alex.
I had not read a romance in years although I devoured them in my young adult life. This book is the one that reminded me how much I loved romances and I returned to being an addict of romance novels! I love this book so much that I have read it multiple times as it is super witty.
I love all the pennyroyal green books
Loved the slow build of romance in this book. Loved the characters and their witty conversations with each other. Lots of fun. Definitely a page turner!
Enjoyed the journey for the heroine!!
Excellent, excellent, excellent historical romance: Sexual tension, witty banter, and wonderfully charming and intelligent characters.
Sample of dialogue between Moncrief, the hero, and Ian, the heroine’s smarmy trouser snake brother.
“Mr. Eversea,” he drawled. “We haven’t yet had a chance to speak alone. I hardly recognize you…in …
Good read
LOVED TBIS BOOK. Been awhile since Inread a great book. Loved the humor and intensity of desire. Loved the noble sacrifice. Okay, yes, i had to look past the silly blindness of the heroine at times but it was worth it. Read this. I’ll be looking up her other books!
