MY REVIEW
Wow….. What he did is a masterpiece with many twists and turns . J. G. Roberts drew me in so much that I refused to put this book down until I read the last page. What an amazing very well written story. I loved it so much that i honestly never wanted it to end. What he did is an expertly crafted story .The plot is suspenseful and thrilling at all times. It really is a roller coaster of a ride. All of the characters were very well developed, and done in such a way you really care about most of them. I started and finished this book all in one day. This is the second book I have read by this author and it was even better than the first. It Caught my attention from the very first page and i could not turn the pages fast enough. I read mystery, crime & psychological thrillers all the time and this one kept me guessing right to the end. The plot is well done and fast paced. The ending was really good . The first thing that drew me to pick this novel up was the author, and then I read the blurb and was intrigued. I would recommend this book to all mystery and thriller lovers. Definitely looking forward to the next Rachel Hart book. The side story into Rachel is just as good as the main story . In each book we have got bits and pieces of what happened to Rachel and her twin sister when they were children. Please write faster J.G. Roberts. Many thanks to the Publisher , the Author , and NetGalley for a ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions I have expressed are my own.
Detective Rachel Hart gets a call from her good friend, Maddy. Maddy’s husband, Simon, has been involved in a horrific car crash and is critically injured.
Although not her case, Rachel decides to investigate .. and finds that someone on a motorbike caused the crash. Upon watching all the tapes, that someone fired a bullet into Simon’s car, causing the accident.
During the ongoing investigation, Maddy begins to have doubts about her husband. He took out a second mortgage on their home by forging her signature. She’s also found a threatening letter to Simon with a list of names of the back of the note.
Giving this information to Rachel, the detective finds that the names belong to friends from the past…. and one of those names recently died. And then there’s another death ..another of the names that can be scratched off the list. And yet another ….
What is their connection? Is Simon even who his wife thinks he is? Does he have secrets so deep, so dark that they rip the very fabric of their relationship?
A solidly written plot with deftly drawn characters and loads of action makes this a real page turner. Rachel is an ideal serial character and I like how the author has blended both her professional and personal lives. There is a slight cliff-hanger, making me whet my appetite to start book 3 in this series.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
The second book in the Detective Rachel Hart series can be read as a standalone, and it is quite the page-turner. The author does an outstanding job of allowing the reader to follow the case along with Rachel, while also throwing in a few twists along the way that keep it interesting. While the investigation aspect is well-done, the personal side of Rachel’s life is also realistic. Although I did figure a few things out before Rachel did, the author kept me engaged right up to the final page. An excellent crime thriller to pick up! Maddie and her husband Simon promised to always be honest and tell each other anything. Maddie thought she knew everything there is to know about Simon. Then one morning on the way to work Simon has an accident. He’s lucky surviving the impact, but now he’s lying in the hospital. Put in a coma, he’s unable to answer the questions as to why the accident happened and what he knows about a rape case back in 1994 when he was playing professional football. Maddie has to face the truth, she doesn’t know everything and what really happened in Porto?
The story was really good and I kept on reading and reading. I like Rachel and held my fingers crossed since the first book, that she and Tim would become more than friends. Now I’m not so sure it was a good idea. I don’t know if I really trust him? And I don’t trust Ruth. The ending left me hanging and wringing my hands in horror. What now? I had my suspicions about Ruth’s behavior….. Why did she said these things about Tim? I have so many questions!!!
What He Did , second in the series of Detective Hart, is a book that will grab your attention from page one.
It has murder, secrets from years ago, family and the suspense keeps you turning the pages.
Did I guess ? No can’t say I was 100 per cent right.
I also liked that you get to know Rachel more in her private life , there is more than one dimension to her.
I will be waiting in line to read the third book in the series. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed .
Thanks to Net Galley, Bookouture for the opportunity to read What He Did
