What Happens in Vegas… is the 15th title in the award winning Dev Haskell series. P.I. Dev Haskell travels out to Vegas to help his friend Goose. He brings sexy Barbie Dahl, a Barbie doll fanatic with him, along with his golden retriever Morton and Barbie’s dog, Sugar. Yeah, Barbie. The chick with the pink house, the pink car, pink clothes, pink high heels…that Barbie. Once in Vegas things … in Vegas things seem to go from bad to worse. Crime lord Tubby Gustafson is somehow involved, of course Goose is there and Goose’s brother Kenny who Barbie suddenly develops a thing for, surprise, surprise. Let’s just say nothing seems to go Dev’s way, but then what did you expect with the laziest P.I. in town? What Happens in Vegas…? You won’t believe it! Fans of Carl Hiaasen and Tim Dorsey love it!

Any book with Dev Haskell – the reluctant PI is fun to read. I forget it anyone was murdered in this one (the Dev Haskell books frequently avoid that – which is refreshing..) but some of the scenes with Barby Doll are really funny.
Love all the books in the Dev Haskell series
This is just a very fun read with entertaining characters and a good story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I love this character.
I always enjoy reading Mike’s novels and this was one of his best.Absolutely the funniest ever. His descriptions of all things Barbie were hilarious. This a good book to read if you want more than one good laugh
Easy read with a good plot. Character were very good.
You have to like Barbie.
Fun read, fast moving, easy read, page turner, read it !
Good read!
Easy reading. Gave me pink eye LOL.
A pleasant diversion after reading a few assassin novels. Characters are funny and unique. How this detective gets all the beautiful girls that are completely out of his league is beyond me. He gets out of the most awful situations; but this is a novel: the hero always gets back up to fight another day.
Interesting story
Always enjoy this series! Fun characters you’d want to be friends with!
Loved this book.
Another great book by this author
Who doesn’t love a book with Barbie in it?? A fun, twisty read.
Dev’s new girlfriend, Barbara Millicent Dahl, AKA Barbie Dahl (Doll) is probably the least likeable character in the series so far. So much so, that she detracts from the reading enjoyment I’ve come to expect from these books. Don’t get me wrong, Mike Faricy’s writing is just as good as always, but Barbie Dahl is so nerve-gratingly pink and plastic … think nails on a blackboard. Perhaps that is the point.
Juxtaposed to Barbie is Dev’s long-time pal and army buddy Arthur “Goose” Gander. He is the instrument that gets our St. Paul PI on a plane to Las Vegas to see why his brother Kenny is being followed. Kenny is on the spectrum and brilliant with numbers. As part of the mystery, Tubby Gustafson and his right-hand man Fat Freddy Zimmerman seem to know what’s going on with Dev before Dev does. Tubby and Fat Freddy are becoming quite the regulars in the series, much to Dev’s dismay.
Into every life, some rain must fall. Barbie made some of the humor a bit sour, but I dare you to think about a guy named Goose Gander without cracking a smile. On balance, this may not have been my new favorite in the series, it definitely has its moments.
In order to best appreciate the trials and tribulations of Devlin Haskell, PI, you really should start with the first book and binge your way through the series. The womanizing, wise-cracking Haskell will keep you laughing and scratching your head in disbelief at the antics that follow him around like a golden retriever puppy.
I’ve read them all. This is one of his better ones.
I think the Dev Haskell novels are some of the most entertaining books I have ever read. Dev is smart and not smart at the same time, he is kind and he cares, hence some of the situations he finds himself in. At times, he reminds me of a very intelligent frat boy that never grew up.
Laughed all the way through it. Dev is truly the lovable anti hero who continues to botch his life but always comes out on the good side of situations. I have read all of Faircy’s books and enjoyed each of them.
