He was forbidden.
I knew it.
He was never mine to have.
He belonged to someone else.
His heart wasn’t free to give.
Still I craved him.
I begged him for it.
His love was addictive.
Our time was never enough.
He shattered my world like I’d shattered everyone else’s.
It was all fun and games before.
I didn’t think about what would happen after.
This book had lots of potential for young adult readers. There were believable circumstances and situations. Characters were interesting and realistic. It skated on the edge of melodrama, and unfortunately it closed by crossing that line. Worth reading the next book in the series.
The story is told from Gwen’s POV. Gwen is Chris’s mom. The story alternates chapters with Lisa’s POV. Lisa was Chris’s best friend. William has some chapters in his POV. This story should be read after reading If I Break series. This is Gwen, Lisa, Gia, and William’s story when they all met. This is how Chris’s parents became married. This is how Chris’s friend Lisa betrayed him and his mother. This is how Gwen grew into the woman she is after the shitstorm hits. We learned about Chris’s condition in the previous books. This is everything that happened prior to Chris’s condition and what lead to his condition.
In If I Break series Gwen is mentioned but nothing to the extent of what this story unleashes. What caused Chris’s condition was all-consuming painful, but this type of betrayal is inexcusable.
The judgment you developed in the first series is going to smack you in the face when you read the reasons behind the betrayal. Once given all the facts it’s easily understandable how this situation came about. You may not approve or even agree with the steps it took to get stuck in this situation but it is what it is. Everything has two sides and this is about disclosing the events that led to a betrayal.
The execution and deliver of this story was sequenced in a perfect timeline between Gwen and Lisa.
Portia is hitting my emotions hard with her words. I feel the punch in my gut for what Gwen is feeling.
Gwen beat the odds and survived breast cancer. Gwen did not let breast cancer control her life or steal it away. Gwen was needed and had to survive to live life with her husband. Gwen may have survived cancer but when she found out her husband betrayed her by cheating on her that was her undoing. Cancer did not kill her spirit but his betrayal did.
Emotional turmoil is the best way to describe how your going to react. It’s a battle of wills against what you know is morally wrong and ethically wrong. It’s a controversial topic where the adult is crossing a line that a responsible adult should not cross because he is supposed to be a role model.
Karma is the best I can describe this situation. What goes around comes around.
It’s written so good it’s addicting. I actually hate myself I feel guilt for enjoying this story because it seems invasive and wrong. It’s inappropriate what is happening all in the name of love. We want to follow our hearts but sometimes when we do we have consequences to consider by doing that. Following your heart should not feel guilty but in this case it does.
A very unconventional love with unique circumstances that bring people together.
I can’t remember where I saw this book, so it was possibly at a book event. I found the book cover very alluring.
Portia Moore is excellent at writing emotions. I really loved this story and found it extremely gripping. It is a love triangle and the action moves between the past where the main characters were all still in high school, to the present day, and things come back to haunt them.
It’s clever in the way it was written starting with a happy marriage between Gwen and William until Gwen finds out William had an affair 8 years ago and has a daughter, something she had been unable to give him.
What’s worse is it with Lisa, their son Chris’s best friend and Gwen knew as a little girl and watched her grow up.
The action moves between all three, Gwen, William and Lisa as the main characters and we see things from their point of view. Not only that but the story of how Gwen and William first got together is told. That’s a story in itself and of course, not without drama.
Not many books make me gasp out loud, but there is a scene in the book where Chris comes in and find his dad and his best friend making out in the kitchen. Although the reader knows this is what will happen, it is a shock when it comes.
There was one instance where Chris confronts Lisa, it’s a great scene. He is both, as one would expect, disgusted with her and his dad. So much so that he discards the name his dad gave him when he was adopted, instead, he wanted to be known as Cal. The scene seemed significant as if it was leading up to something as if the name Cal meant something, but nothing further was mentioned about it.
Loved the series of books. Kept me on my toes and wanting more.
WOW, this was my first series by Portia and will be reading more of her. I can not get this series out of my head. I have commented on her FB page that she is one that paints such a clear picture with her words, that you have no problem imaging what her story line follows. My biggest suggestion is read all books in the series, look into them as there are some .5’s in between the numbers. You won’t be sorry with this series!
it’s kicked around too much and I felt like the characters and he was starting to get into one character and then you went to another character I I got bored with it I quit reading it
A married couple dealing with infidelity. The wife examines how they met and got together. The husband blames the other woman and whines a lot. By the end they “work” but the issues of everyone is crazy. I hated the couple and thought their issues were karma. At the end I was happy it was over. Even the cliff hanger with their adult son wasn’t worth reading more by this author.
I wanted to read this book since I am a fan of Portia Moore’s If I Break series. Ms. Moore did not disappoint me.
I didn’t finish it since the premise and characters were wo disturbing
I loved this book. It kept me up all night and I was happy about it.
Very interesting concept. Each chapter tells the story from their POV. I enjoyed reading this and there are sequels which I intend to read. I recommend reading this book.
I couldn’t put the book down. Absolutely loved this story! I want to read the author’s other books now.
Part of an amazing series.
So true to feelings, loved it
story tends to drag on slowly until the last few chapters
Omg! Are you ready to cry? Because you will. I loved it, everything about it. It gives you a perfect symmetry to both women in his actions and you see how everyone is affected its so good!!!
