“Faeries liked to tease the weak, but they loved to annihilate the strong.”Seven years ago, the exposure of the paranormal led to the tumultuous downfall of human society. Now, the legions of the fae rule the broken world, and humanity has nothing left but a handful of protected cities and a heaping helping of regret.Enter Vincent Whelan. Half fae and former cop, he’s become the best-known … former cop, he’s become the best-known stretch scavenger in Kinsale, North Carolina, braving the “stretches” outside his city to recover precious items lost in the collapse. He makes good money. Lives the good life. Has a good future in store. As long as he can ignore his traumatic memories of the past.
But when a new job with an odd twist blows onto his doorstep, Vince finds himself unwittingly drawn into a vast conspiracy lurking underneath Kinsale’s thin veneer of civilization. Old friends suddenly return to haunt him. New enemies appear at every turn. And Vince fears he isn’t prepared to confront either one.
But if he doesn’t put his detective hat back on and solve this case on a tight deadline, then what’s left of the city he calls home might just crumble to dust.
What Fate Portends is the first novel of The Frost Arcana, an action-packed urban fantasy series set in a post-apocalyptic world.

An excellent book with a fascinating post-apocalyptic Urban Fantasy world.
This is a great action packed urban fantasy that had me on the edge of my seat the whole read! Gripping and filled with magic and mystery and some great characters, you will not be able to put this down neither!
slow
A great plot with memorable character dev’t. I will buy them all. Loved it!
Easy read, a new twist on old mythology, lightly entertaining.
A great read! Exciting, fast-paced, very likeable characters. I’m on #2 now.
Clara Coulson has a knack for creating characters with totally relatable flaws and issues as she’s done here with Vince Whelan, half fae former cop. He’s doing what he can do to survive in a world essentially gutted by war following the revelation of paranormals. But will his Unseelie side result in his being drawn into a new deadly battle?
This book starts off a bit slow paced once the main character gets back to the city. The story follows a day in the life of Vincent Whelan who recovers items with sentimental value to the citizens of Kinsale, for a price of course, in a dystopian version of Earth that’s been devastated by war and ruled by the Fae. The world building was great and I look forward to the later books hopefully exploring the Fae realm. The character was relatable and well built with his background being introduced at a good pace. There was no romance though small hints at the potential, but it focused on the mystery and paranormal aspects of the story predominantly. I would’ve loved a look at the various supernaturals that were exposed and a little background on them, but there’s always the potential for it to come up in later books as it applies to the situation Vincent finds himself in. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Audiobook review: Good action packed and entertaining story involving a post-apocalyptic half fae half human ex detective who gets pulled in to a conspiracy to over throw the status quo. I liked the storyline and hope that more is to come. The narrator did a nice job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Urban fantasy at its finest…..Join in the adventures of Vince, 1/2 human 1/2 fae. Hiding in plain sight with the use of charms help him to make a “proper living”. The author makes it easy for the reader to attach to its main character, Vince as he fumbles through life in the “new world”. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I received this little gem from Hidden gems for free as an ARC for my honest opinion and review. HAPPY READING!!
Best book I’ve read in some time. Loved the story, loved the characters.
Fantastic blend of post-apocalypse and urban fantasy. Loved this book and alll the following books in the series – they just keep getting better and better.

simple job – not so simple
ghouls abound. werewolves gone feral. Mab is fae queen, with much of humanity and supes disappearing.
can one man really make a difference?
perhaps if he is not really a man – Vincent Whelan
what fae is he really?
will he and his ex partner, and a few mixed allies, be in time to stop whatever horror is planned from destroying what is left of their home?
suspense and action continue!

This story has great world-building and I found the MC, Vince, to really fit well with the post-apocalyptic fae world. Because the story is told in 1st-person POV, we are basically taken along for the ride with the mystery. The story does a good job a building a base for the series without dumping too much information into the first story (still plenty to be discovered in the future books). I really liked the touch of faerie myth in the story, not enough to rely too heavily on the myths but enough to add a touch of familiarity.
I will say this story dragged at points for me, not that the story wasn’t interesting or well paced, but it just felt long given the page count.
