Since their father’s death Prudence Roxbury and her sisters have lost nearly everything and scrape by on a small allowance. As the eldest, Prudence is struggling to hold everything together and hopes that her beautiful sister, Sarah, will be able to marry well and keep the rest of the sister’s from being destitute. When the new heir, a distant relation, finally comes to her old family home, Hagly Manor, Prudence is determined to see him wed Sarah, even if she does find him attractive herself.
Max, now Lord Roxbury has the opportunity to repair an age old family feud and thumb his nose at his now-deceased, spiteful father. Due to his father’s will, Max only has three months to marry if he wants to claim his full inheritance, but he’s always sworn he’d only marry for love. Is it possible that the captivating and witty Prudence could be the answer to all his problems?
Prudence began to annoy me with her constant insistence that Max must notice Sarah, after all, his marrying Prudence would serve her family just as well, but luckily Max had some sense and Prudence finally came to her senses before this made me really dislike her. We’ve got a jealous, meddling ex-mistress and a heroine with the backbone to put her in her place and plenty of drama to make this entertaining.
I wasn’t as drawn into this book as I usually am with Adele Clee’s novels. I think it had too many thoughts of lust that seemed to take away from the story, I felt most were unnecessary. If you like that style, you may enjoy the book more. Not steamy, but suggestive. The story was fun, and it was nice to see other characters from her books involved. I was given an advanced reader copy and this is my honest opinion and review for this book.
Liked the sexual tension between Prue and Max. Good romance. I received an ARC of this book.
ROMANCE WITH A DASH OF HUMOR! This novel has a lot more tongue-in-cheek humor than previous ones by Ms. Clee. It is a delightful and refreshing love story. The author’s characters are always unique and detailed. Max and Prudence are no exception. They are light-hearted and witty. Their HEA was quite effortless.
This was such a fun story! Loads of wittiness and hot romance. It even has an ex lover trying her damnedest to wreak havoc between Max and Prudence who are surrounded by some very supportive friends and family members.
I love their unvoiced thoughts which truly showed how they really felt about each other but which were not voiced at the time.
I think Adele Clee has written a delightful and entertaining novella and loved its subject matter and characters. I also think that this could be a good beginning for a very successful series.
Penny Scott-Andrews was the narrator of the audiobook and her different voices and voice-acting is very impressive. I was quite surprised at her range of male and female ones.
With all is in mind, I am very happy to recommend this story as very enjoyable and also as a ‘should be read’.
At my request I was supplied with a free audiobook by the author and this is my unsolicited snd unbiased review of it.
