“I just wanted to be normal, but the day college started a supernatural world opened up. Now I don’t know who to trust… or even if I’ll survive the night.”A new urban fantasy series from the award-winning screenwriter of ground-breaking BBC TV series Spirit Warriors. When Marley moves into her dorm at Blackville University, she has classes to sign up for, parties to attend, and an … she has classes to sign up for, parties to attend, and an over-protective father to avoid, who, as luck would have it, has just been hired at BU as its newest History professor.
While trying to befriend her roommate, Marley discovers that Cassie might just be the oddest – if richest – girl she’s ever known. Then there’s Eve, the older girl with a mysterious past who hides her true face under layers of make-up and a bitchy attitude. Thank God for Tyler who seems nice and has the kind of hair Marley would kill for, or she would think college life was a bust already.
After a disastrous night out ends with them all thrown together for the first time, something happens that no one expected. Something magical. And suddenly they discover they each have been gifted with strange new powers – but why? And who is the mysterious good-looking stranger who seems to know far more than he is willing to tell them?
One thing’s for sure: Saving the world has never been this twisted!
Fans of The Mortal Instruments, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and Pretty Little Liars will love this thrilling new series!
Written like your favorite CW or Netflix show, expect thrills, heart-thumping romance as well as epic twists and turns that will keep you guessing!

Story is about 4 girls going to College and 1st day finding their dorm rooms and meet other new students. These 4 main characters are girls that do not fit in with the popular set, considered misfits. They are just girls with backgrounds that caused them to see things differently.
They have never met each other before this 1st day on campus. A wonderful start to a New Series. I highly recommend this series!!
OMG this first book is totally awesome! Hooking me from the very start it is filled with twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat! If supernatural Is your thing then you really must read this, I’m off to get book 2!
At first I didn’t think I was going to like this book but I persisted and found that the further I read the more interested in the book I became, so I’m grateful that I kept going. The Book starts a little strange and a little slow and even maybe a little creepy. Then we meet four college girls who don’t seem to have anything in common and the story flows from there. The book ends with the girls having done/seen something strange I’m not telling which of these it is as it will spoil the book. It is a quick and can be read in a few hours. I will be looking forward to reading the next book.
This isn’t my usual read but I enjoyed it. Good characters and plot. I’m interested to see what happens next.
I listened to the first 11 audiobooks in this series night after night until I finished all 11 books and I cannot wait for the next book in the series! The narrator does a fantastic job with all the voices and emotions. The books are well-written with diverse, fully-developed characters. There’s a ton of action and supernatural elements. I’d actually love to see this made into a TV series. Jo Ho is a new author to me. I first read/listened to her Chase Ryder series and moved on to this one fairly quickly. I’ll definitely be purchasing more of her work.
Great start to a series. The author wants this to be a television series, which would be great, but I thought it was fantastic as a book, and would love the series that way as well. If it ever makes it to television, I will definitely be watching. I received a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
first in the Twisted series worth reading and/or listening to. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
This review is for the audio book.
w, I think I have just found another audio book series that I need to collect and add to my collection. I just loved it and this is only the first book and just introducing you to the characters but I am hooked. I really like the different backgrounds and troubles each girl has and the author very cleverly wrote about them in such away that you care for them and want to start the next book to see what happens next.
Marley is a troubled teen but going away from home for the first time to university she wants to start fresh and reinvent herself. The first friend she tries to make is her roommate, shy rich girl Cassie but keeping her secret under cover might prove to be harder than she thought. Marley and Cassie soon meets mean goth girl Eve and secretive and troubled Tyler. While trying to embrace university life the girls head out to a party only for the night to go horrible wrong. But what did really happen?
I liked the narrator and think she does a good job of building up the emotion and suspense in the story.
What Doesn’t Kill You: An Urban Fantasy for Magic Fans (Twisted Book 1) by Jo Ho was an interesting story.
It reminded me of some supernatural TV shows I enjoy. This first book is primarily introducing us to 4 young women going to college. Each has their own issues and circumstances draw them together. It does end with a cliffhanger. I look forward to reading/listening to the next book in the series.
I listened to the audio book and the narration was very good.

What Doesn’t Kill You is written as a TV series with each book being a week’s installment. I enjoyed reading it so much I couldn’t wait to hear it on audible. All I can say is WOW!!!!! Jo does it again. Her descriptive writing creates imagery that really puts you in the scene. I LOVE THIS STORY!!!!!! Every single girl if honest with herself should be able to relate to these girls. I appreciate how each girl has their strengths and weaknesses that have already started coming out. The scene in the church was so descriptive and freaky in a good way. I am so curious as to what the story is behind Eve and how her brother will fit into the storyline. Each one of these girls has family that will be affected by their newfound powers. I cannot wait to see how each girl and her family develop even more as their powers grow.
I could picture the scenes and where they would put the breaks and everything.
These college girls are not just silly girls who immediately bond because they are in the same dorm and roommates. They each have their own baggage who makes them leery of the others. As the story develops things happen that change how much they trust each other until finally they are almost forced to trust at least a bit.
I really liked the narration of this story also.

A strange tale that can be read in less than a day, this is episode one in a series. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
This book was an excellent introduction to the world the author has created in this series. While the action doesn’t really “kick in” until the very end, I feel that after reading this story I have a clear picture of who the characters are, and the world they live in.
The characters themselves are also very well written and extremely relatable. They’re dealing with a lot of the same issues that teens and young adults deal with today. I find myself particularly attached to Cassie, who deals with issues related to negative self esteem and bullying. One particularly difficult scene had me nearly in tears, knowing exactly what she’s going through because I’ve been there myself.
The story leaves us right after the girls experience their first taste of the supernatural. I, for one, can’t wait to see what’s next.
I really liked the premise of this book. I feel like maybe it was mostly world building and learning the characters for what will be a bigger story. But I also feel like it didn’t go anywhere. And at the end, I was sort of lost as to what was going on or why things were happening like they were. Maybe it’s just me. The big epic action seemed to need more explanation to it. Maybe my mind had wondered during that part because I was leaving work while listening. The author mentioned a tv series which I’m sure would be great. Wish it was in the US.
The narrator did a great job of all the characters. I really enjoyed her.

What a great book. Not my normal genre but thought I’d give it a try. I’m really glad i did. Great characters and a great intro to what is sure to become an awesome series. Everyone would enjoy this.
Twisted Series:
What Doesn’t Kill You, Episode #1 – Totally awesome!, and it’s just the first episode. It’s a cliffhanger but it’s written in episodes, which I totally dislike in any book. That pet peeve aside, Ms. Ho has done a jam up job with the start of a new series. This genre is right up my alley and I love everything I’ve read by this author. The story starts with the introductions of the main characters and touches on their background. I’m sure as the pages grow, the characters will develop more with time and experiences. So far, I like all of them, and I usually don’t care for this age group, but I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the story. The last chapter pretty much gave a big hint of the future of these four young women and the roller coaster ride their lives will be now.
I wish I could tell what happened to Christian, but that’s a spoiler; I let you enjoy the story with fresh eyes and no heads up. The story line can go anywhere from here and I know the ride will be fast paced and twisted. I thank the author for the clean language; yes, real people do not use vulgar language, whether they’re Christians or not. 5 stars even though it’s in parts – made for the screen, not to make more profits. 5*
Beware the Signs, Episode #2 – Intense. Intriguing. More players join the original cast as the storyline develops. The four young women start to recognize their special abilities as the evil begins. Well written with interesting characters and a plot that grows with suspense and twists. As with the first episode, it’s a cliffhanger. 5*
See No Evil, Episode #3 – Intriguing. Suspenseful. Dangerous. Things are getting worse in this well written and well thought out episode. A lot of the darkness is interacting with the four young women. It’s easy to get immersed in the actions of all involved. I love the way the present is mixed with Salem in 1693. The flashbacks aren’t excessive; just appearing to build the present’s horror or mirror happenings of 1693. 5*
The Blood That Binds #4 – Darn, another cliffhanger, but of course. Started a little slow for me, but quickly picked up the pace. Intriguing and suspense filled as the story progresses along with an interesting, developing plot. The back stories of all the characters are getting meatier and the evil is setting his play into motion affecting the young ladies mysteriously. This is a must read series, but it’s easier on the reader to have all five books, the wait in between is hard. 5*
When Trouble Comes #5 – More and more nasty stuff is coming out of the woodwork. The girls are keeping too many secrets and are not learning to work as or be a team. Trouble is coming big time from many points and this is the creepiest of the series. Well written, well thought out and a continuously evolving story line keeps the reader immersed in the pages. Ms. Ho does a great job with her vivid descriptions and twists to the plot. Only complaint is waiting soooo long for the next part. 5*
Bad Habits #6 – More and more secrets and discoveries with this well written, well thought out episode. There’s plenty of intrigue and suspense, while the girls are growing more as individuals and as partners. With this episode, some of the girls are getting more likable. Simon and Christian are getting their share of the pages. Michael is getting his licks in where he can and he’s growing stronger, too. 5*
Left Behind #7 – Pretty intriguing and plenty of suspense as Michael does his thing. More secrets are unveiled; personalities becoming more pronounced; and magic is willing and jointly tried. There’s a brief meet between past and present. Allie is more prominent in this episode. Ms. Ho wrote a good plot and background storylines; it’s quickly read and hard to put down. 5*
Hell Hath No Fury #8 – Pretty intriguing and plenty of suspense as Michael and the girls do their stuff to keep/find Allie and to find the two black magic containers. Ms. Ho wrote more of good plot and background storylines; it’s quickly read and hard to put down. 5*
Twisted Series End.
I found this book okay. I really enjoyed the narration by Allyson Voller. Allyson has a lovely voice and helped me to really be able to concentrate on the story. What I don’t like is the fact that there is no ending. You must buy another book well maybe a few more to get the whole story. I am a big fan of books in series but this is more like buying each chapter.
Audiobook review: What Doesn’t Kill You is a story of 4 young college age ladies that are essentially misfits for various reasons hoping that college will give them a fresh start. A mysterious murder and another reality to our world brings a twist that the ladies want to solve. This story is definitely the beginning to more to come and provides just enough detail mixed with action that kept things interesting. It’s a short listen and the narrator did a good job grabbing my attention.
You can really get into this book. Good strong characters that bring out the best of this book. Girls going to college but find out things are different for them. I loved the writing but would have liked a little more ending. Easy reading and looking forward for the next one.
I really enjoyed this book. I read too many long books in a row and I just needed this quick read. It definitely left me hanging, and wanting the next book.
I cant spoil it, but it is just enough suspense, and a total curve-ball at the end.
This read, is just the span of one day, for three people, and I love being able to know every point of view, and still be surprised.
An awesome book. Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong characters. I want to read more from this author.
