Lady Edith Leveson has lived her young widowhood in shadows and secrets, not even revealing the truth to family or friends. That, it seems, is no longer an option, and she must act quickly to avoid being ruined entirely and forevermore. A handsome but reserved rescuer comes to her aid just in time, and their paths begin to entwine more than either of them expected.
Graham Hastings, Lord … Lord Radcliffe, is no hero. He isn’t brave, bold, or in any way noble, yet the striking Lady Edith seems determined to paint him so. One dance with her, and he seems unable to avoid finding her in need wherever he goes. The more involved he becomes, the more his heart begins to open, and he finds himself more than willing to become a hero. Hers.

I hate to say that this is the first book of the Spinster Chronicles I’ve read. I love Rebecca Connolly‘s books and I’m not sure how I missed this series. I really liked this book, but I think it would’ve been a little bit better if I had read the series in order. The story of Lady Edith is a regency romance dealing with an uncomfortable situation. Sir Reginald is the evil Heir apparent of Edith’s late husband. Since this was my first story in the series, getting to know all of the characters was a little challenging. But the story was really good, the characters were will defined and you could feel the chemistry between Lady Edith and Lord Radcliffe. I definitely want to go back and read the rest of the series in order.
Lady Edith Leveson has come to a decision: her brief marriage and subsequent widowhood must end. It is the only way to escape the disgusting control of her husband’s cousin and heir. Keeping out of the man’s way brings her into the company of Lord Radcliffe. With the help of her Spinster friends, Edith learns to hold her head up high and finds a love she wasn’t expecting.
Since Edith was introduced to the Spinsters, I have been intrigued by her story. We get hints that she is penniless and that her first marriage was unfortunate and brief. In this book, we get the full picture: her brother wagered her hand without permission and she was forced into the marriage by her family. She has been making do with what little she had, but her husband’s cousin is making life intolerable for her.
I was certain Henshaw would be paired with Edith, so I was surprised to be introduced to the logical Graham Hastings, Lord Radcliffe. Tragedy brought the title to him and he has struggled with being compared to his now dead older brother. He knows he is no hero, but circumstances bring Edith into his life and he finds himself in that role. Together, they bring out the best in each other.
The plot moves at a good pace. The story is delightful and made for an excellent weekend read. We are down to one Spinster left and, though she is not my favorite, I am eager to see how her story plays out.
This series is one I would recommend to readers looking for a clean and witty tale set in the Regency era.
The long awaited story for Edith is here! Wow – this story has it all! Suspense, drama, romance and plenty of droll and witty humour. I loved getting a glimpse into the lives of so many of the previous characters to see how they’re progressing but to finally have Edith’s story told was in itself wonderful! I’ve been eagerly anticipating it for the past few books. I love how her character has developed. I definitely recommend reading the other books in the series first if you haven’t already. It gives this story so much more body knowing how strong she has been in the lead up to this. And Gray! Sigh. I loved his droll wit and caring sensitivity. Be careful ladies – he might just make you swoon. This book also brought in a few other characters that we haven’t heard as much about previously. One intriguing couple included. As well as Mr. Demeris. I wonder if he will appear in another story. I can’t wait for the next story after having read the Epilogue to this one. Henshaw has intrigued me from the very beginning so I’m glad that we will hopefully be able to discover more about him next time plus… only one Spinster left – what will Charlotte’s story be like?!
I receive an ARC of this book from the Author with no obligation to leave a review.
One of the best in this series!
Loved it. Seriously this book took me from feeling like nothing was right in the world to just squealing with joy. A good book can do that. I couldn’t find any part that didn’t run smooth and felt real. Maybe too real. I am so glad nothing too crazy bad happens to Edith. I was biting my nails! Very good bad guy! Another thing she pulls off well. Her conflicts are not imagined and are a real thing. I LOVED the scene where…….oh gosh almost gave the best part away. Lets just say Connolly can write a kiss. The ending was so well done. The build up to that was very believable.
This has a bit of content, the bad guy is very touchy feely and slimy. He threatens a lot of violence and there is some hitting and beating people up.
Another comfortable romantic novel that I’ve come to trust Rebecca to provide for lighthearted entertainment. When there’s so much horrible stuff going on in the world and so many worries, it’s a pleasure to know that I can count on a Rebecca Connolly novel for relief And escape. Thank-you Rebecca! Your talents are greatly appreciated and valued!
Those of us who have been reading the Spinster Chronicles series have been waiting for Lady Edith Leveson’s story. Edith had been harder to get to know in previous stories because she was such a closed book and didn’t want to talk about her past.
Graham Hastings seems pretty smitten with her right away and very protective. He is fairly introverted and Edith has a way of drawing him out.
I like the addition of Molly in this story and I like that we see a different side of Edith and Graham when they are with her.
Since there is a reappearance of a lot of characters in previous books I found myself wishing for a chart to keep track of them. I know of the main characters but there seemed to be some side characters that I was unsure of.
I’m hoping we have Charlotte’s story soon. I have been really looking forward to it.
Seriously love Rebecca’s book so much! This may have been one of my top favorite, and that’s saying something because they’re all so good. I had actually been anticipating a romance with Henshaw from moments in the other Spinster Books, so that surprised me a little, in a good way. I love being surprised. The romance she created instead was just right for the Lady Edith we have had glimpses of and came to love in this book. Wonderfully vulnerable characters who are given opportunities to become strong backed by a compelling plot made it hard to put the book down!
Rating: 4.5 stars
My thoughts about this book:
• The author draws you into the life of Edith with her descriptive, emotional and physical language that she uses in her writing.
• The descriptions of locations were well done and it was easy to visualize and feel a part of the scenes.
• The banter between the characters was witty and humorous.
• The supporting cast of characters added dimension to the story. They were very well fleshed out and they played active roles in this book.
• The pacing of this story was good. It was not too fast nor too slow. There was a smooth, coherent flow to this book.
• There was action and romance in this story.
• The story was well edited.
• This was a clean read and I appreciate that fact.
I was given an advance copy of this book. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own. I highly recommend this book. If you like Regency romance with advenure and intrigue, you will enjoy this book.
This book was so good I could not put it down. I have read the other spinster books in this series but it has been a while. I was worried that I would be lost while reading this, but I had no problem. It was hard keeping all the characters straight at first but honestly only the main characters were important to remember. I loved all the heroic saving parts and the Scottish language scattered throughout. The villain in this story was so despicable the author did a great job building his character. The 2 main characters were clever and well written as well and the chemistry…… off the charts. This may be my favorite of the Spinster Chronicle series- very worth the price. It does have some mild language, but nothing disgusting.
Rebecca Connolly knows how to write romance! Lady Edith is in a desperate situation and I loved how the Spinsters – and their husbands! – rallied around her. The way Edith and Gray meet is too much fun. I loved the fantastic circle of characters and the intriguing plot. I admired Edith for her strength and courage and how, even in her most difficult moments, she tried to protect her loved ones.
This is the first book in the series I have read and though I thoroughly enjoyed it, I do wish I had read the other books in the series first as it took a few chapters to sort out all the other characters in the group. I guess now I can enjoy going back and reading them all!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but am voluntarily leaving a review.
Love this book! I love Rebecca Connolly and I am so glad that we finally have Edith’s story! From the first book in this series I have wanted to know more about Edith and I am so glad that we finally get to see her overcome a terrible past to finally be happy. I like that she was able to help Graham to be happy and to be okay with taking over his title that he never wanted. I really did love this book and I love the characters so much!
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

Another solid addition to The Spinster Chronicles series, What a Spinster Wants finally gives us Edith’s mysterious story. I was so sad learning about her heartbreaking past, but so excited to finally know the mystery surrounding her. I enjoyed the sparks between Edith and Graham and their “meet cute”. The house party was an unexpected twist I really enjoyed. I like how both Edith and Graham had to learn to trust others and share their feelings. This is a clean romance with some good chemistry and kisses.
The epilogue at the end has me SO excited for the next book in the series too.
I loved reading Edith’s story as heartbreaking as it was. She was rather mysterious in previous books. We only got snippets of her story. But she did seem world wise and knowing. In this one we see all her insecurities, strengths, fears and fierceness.
Graham is pretty wonderful and very introverted but once one is part of his life, he is incredibly loyal. Loved him. He and Edith are well matched.
Very mixed feelings about Edith’s brother. He came through this time but I’m not sure that I trust him at all. I never get enough of the Spinsters as a group and I adore their husbands as well.
The villain in this book is truly evil. It was hard to read in some parts because he was so awful. We didn’t get to fully know what happened to him.
spoiler> I also want to know what happens to his wife. Is she as horrible as her husband or also a good person in a bad situation?
I have enjoyed all the books in this series and recommend reading them in order since characters reappear and it is easier to understand the situation with the Spinsters when you start with book one. Looking forward to the next one.

*I received a complimentary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I’ve found Lady Edith to be the most mysterious of the Spinsters. Before now, all we’ve known is that she’s a very young widow, but now we get to find out more about her. I thought her backstory to be sad, but it seems not that unusual for the time, as women didn’t have a lot of control over whom they married. Unfortunately some families were more concerned about money than their daughter’s happiness, and Lady Edith’s was one of them. Luckily for her, she’s one of the Spinsters and those ladies not only stick together, they help one another–it’s one of the things I love about them–so no matter how much Edith wanted to handle her problems by herself, they weren’t going to let that happen.
Graham Hastings. Lord Radcliffe, has the demon of trying to be the man that his brother was or would have been. That’s not fair to expect him to be something he isn’t, because Graham is a wonderful man in his own right. I loved how Edith and Graham met at the ball, and how she kept entering his thoughts afterward. I adored how the Spinster’s husbands come together to help Edith, they really are the best of men. I love this series and think it would be so much fun to be friends with this group of people.
A historical romance about an unjustly treated Scottish widow, Lady Edith, who is one of the Spinsters who write “The Spinster Chronicles”, and a newly title Lord Radcliffe in London society, she’s being harassed by her late reprobate husband’s cousin, who wants her for a mistress, and he’s rescuing her. She needs to find a protector, a husband, as her former husband has left her destitute and left at his cousin’s warped mercy.
The story is beautifully written with action and humor; the characters are well developed. I really enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it.
