Highlander Ronan Maclaren must marry, but he’s in no particular hurry. He’s perfectly happy as the laird of his clan, running the Maclaren Whisky Distillery, and besides, he just hasn’t found the right woman. Lady Imogen Kinley has cleverly avoided wedlock for years. Men, she has learned from painful experience, are not to be trusted. Determined to remain independent, she takes an indecent … indecent amount of pleasure in making herself as unattractive to potential suitors as possible.
When desperate measures are taken by their parents and a betrothal contract is signed, it’s loathing at first sight. They each vow to make the other cry off–by any means necessary. But what starts out as a battle of wits…quickly dissolves into a battle of wills.

Let the games begin. Ronan Maclaren, Maclaren Laird/Duke of Dunrannock and Lady Imogen Kinley find themselves in a marriage contract. If he backs out, she gets the clan Maclaren’s distillery. If she backs out, he gets her dowry. You can’t stop laughing as they each try to outwit the other to call the marriage off. But a man from Imogen’s past turns up after several years away and plans to take her away from Ronan, no matter what it takes. Very entertaining and engaging. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I have been dying for Ronan to get a story since I met him in My Scot, My Surrender and he was worth the wait. I loved him so much and he has really met his match with Imogen. There was some great banter in this one and while I am sad to see this series come to an end, it went out with a great story.
Ronan is just so good. He had the benefit that I pretty much loved him already but he was just so great. And Imogen! I adored her. She is so strong and such a good person and so passionate in everything she does. Neither one of them wants to get married, but they have been forced into this betrothal and they both have so much to lose should they break the engagement. They are both so stubborn and neither is willing to give up and they have truly met their match in one another. I will say, in the beginning they both were driving me up a wall and I wished they would work together instead of trying to destroy one another, but I LOVED how their relationship progressed. And I also loved the bit of suspense thrown in.
All in all, What A Scot Wants was a really good read and a great conclusion to the series. I am going to miss these characters, but it has been a fun ride.
I really enjoyed the book-especially the descriptions of the characters and some of their outfits! A refreshing look at life during this time period.
Rarely do I reread a book and this reread was purely accidental as my first read of “What a Scot Wants” was prior to my judicious use of the Goodreads app. As I settled in with it I decided to forge ahead anyway.
The main characters Ronan and Imogen were contracted by their parents to marry, but neither are happy about it. They set out to thwart the expected nuptials, some of which is funny and some just absurd. But of course there’s a strong mutual physical attraction with many outside forces working against their union. It goes on a bit overlong, especially the epilogue.
The writing style is too wordy for my tastes. The authors; Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan would do well to use a good copy editor who will pare down the numerous throw away phrases and unnecessary verbiage that actually detracts from the dialogue. Why use ten words when three will say the same thing?
All in all, a cute romantic historical tale. Three stars.
Imogen and Ronan are being forced into marriage by their parents. If either one should cry off, they lose what is most dear to them. Him – the family whiskey distillery, which is keeping his clan taken care of; her – her money which is paying for her home for women in trouble. They each try to get the other to cry off in so many ways – which is hysterical. But as they get to really know what drives the other, a mutual respect begins to develop. When bad things from their past resurface, will they discover what’s been growing between them in time?
I thought this was a well written, funny book with plenty of heat and some mystery and villains thrown into the mix. Considering her history, some parts were not very believable, but I don’t read regency fiction books for total accuracy. A fun and enjoyable read.
What A Scot Wants is book 3 in A Tartans & Titans Novel series by Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan. I have to say, I am in awe of this story. I started it and couldn’t put it down. I realize that it is in a series, but it truly can be read as a stand alone. I haven’t read any of the other books, but I am definitely planning to go back and read the others. There is so much to say about this story. I found myself laughing out loud in the beginning and then biting my nails in the end. It has humor, romance, danger and steamy scenes. “The soft velvet of her lips reached into him, silencing his brain and stilling time. Imogen’s mouth parted on a delayed gasp of surprise, and the world went tumbling forward again. Ronan froze, aware and yet utterly paralyzed. He hadn’t meant to kiss her…but her scent had filled his nostrils, and the heat of her body had risen with her temper, and that lush, caustic mouth of hers had taunted him to indecency.”
I truly feel that I have discovered a treasure in Howard and Morgan’s writing. I can’t wait to read more.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This book was a wonderful story and I wished that I could give it more stars than 5. It reminds me of why I LOVE historical romance. I took my time reading this as I was savoring it. These two characters were a joy to read. What they were going to do next kept me glued to my e-reader. Both Highlander Ronan Maclaren and Lady Imogen Kinley are being forced to marry. Neither of them have married due to incidents in each of their past. Neither can they forfeit for it they do, each will lose something valuable to them. They have to get the other to cry off. They were hilarious in their early attempts. I could really picture the scenes as the writers really did great job in giving just enough description and left the rest for me to fill in.
The journey to a HEA was filled with laughs, intrigue, mystery and prior love interests on each side. I adored the dual POV format that the story is written in. Getting that glimpse into the thoughts behind the characters’ actions really helped me to connect with them. It also allowed me to see the chemistry between them.
I have not read any of the prior books in this series or the books in the other series that dealt with Ronan’s family. That didn’t impede me from enjoying this story.
There was one scene that could make offend some. It was of a sexual scene that was written in a manner that really should not offend as it left much more to the reader’s imagination. If you love historical romance, then this is one for you. I highly recommend it!!!
What a Scot Wants
Tartans & Titans book 3
by Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan
What a sensational read! These ladies have such a talent their writing just grabs you and keeps you entertained till you’ve read the last page. I really didn’t want to see the end to this story it was that good!
I adored Imogene and Ronan, they both were so similar in character, and competitive in every way, even before they had laid eyes on each other! On their very first meeting …..their betrothal ball, they set the bar with the way things were to be played out. Oh my the hilarity of it just cracked me up! The rules were that whoever forfeits loses their inheritance to the other. What will it take for one of them to break the contract!!!
The more they spend time with each other their feelings started to change and each wondered what if they just went ahead and married? But things couldn’t fall together so easily as both had secrets from their past come into their lives to create trouble. Ronan put to rest the hurt and betrayal he experienced at a young age with the true love he felt for Imogen. Imogen’s past was a danger to her than she expected.
Amazing read I truly, truly recommend this to everyone who loves a sensual story full of passion humor and witty banter with just the right amount of intrigue and villains.
I highly recommend this book!! I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
WHAT A SCOT WANTS by Amalie Howard and Angie is book Three in the Tartans and Titans Series. This is the story of Imogen Kinley and Ronan Maclaren the Duke of Dunrannoch . I have read the previous books, but felt you could read this as a standalone book.
Imogen has a trust issue with men so she has been making sure to present herself as non desirable women to deter any suitors. Ronan is a Lair who also runs the Maclaren Whisky Distillery so he is happy to do that and no rush to marry. But when these two are thrown into a possible marriage of convenience between the two they both vow to deter the other one to break things off. Of course they but heads as soon as they meet and try to stick to their goals but it doesn’t take to long for them to start fighting something else instead of being apart.
Enjoyed their story
Why am I just finding out about this series now? 😉
What a Scot Wants has a solid start–the machinations that Imogen and Ronan (mostly Imogen, but Ronan held his own here too) to try to get the other one to break their arranged engagement first were laugh out loud funny. Once the gig was up, their relationship issues morphed into misunderstandings caused by a lack of communication–here they actually made sense with their specific situations, though, which was refreshing. (Even though it was frustrating at times, at least it worked with their characters and backstory.) Add in some drama with exes and actual danger–not to mention sizzling chemistry and an awakening romance–and you’re left with one heck of a story here.
What a Scot Wants worked just fine as a standalone–though now I’m really curious to see what happened in the first and second book!–and since Ronan still has many siblings, I’ll be adding this series to my “watch for future installments” list.
Rating: 4 stars / B+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
MaClaren Estate, Scotland 1831 “I’m no’ marrying a bloody stranger!” Ronan Maclaren, Duke of Duranrannoch and Maclaren Laird said as he was given the news of the bridal agreement his father had left in his will. Can’t you just hear Ronan’s voice saying that? “When he took a bride, he’d like to feel some spark of affection for her!” To say this grabbed my attention combined with the Scot on the cover is an understatment! If he broke the contract he would lose the distillery he had built up over the last twenty years of his life. But he had a plan forming to make the lady, Lady Imogene break the bethothal so it would not be his fault! Oh yes brilliant minds.
Little did he know that his “bethothed” Lady Imogen, to say the least, was not taking the news well either! She had started a home for women taken advantage of by men after a terrible incident in her past and needed her inheritance to expand an continue. She would lose it if she broke the contract.
Their first meeting was so much fun! Each was trying to come across obnoxious. I seriously could not stop laughing till tears came to my eyes at their antics to make the other think they were so undesirable and back out of the contract. He, kind of a lecher and she a empty headed ninny! Let the Games Begin, indeed!
Seriously I adored this book, but know there are some serious and a little dark elements that come into play that bring Imogene and Ronan full circle as they get to know each other. They each were compassionate and truly only wanted to look out for what meant most to them. But when the past comes back to haunt will they fight for each other?
This author team is amazing and I cannot wait to read more! Trust me, you do not want miss this one!!
Pride taken a bit too far!
I could not get my mind around this couple’s constant pranks and machinations to avoid a marriage, even after they realized their attraction to their intended. I also felt the story, including the happy epilogue, was too long. I love a good Scottish romance with a strong, kilted hero, and this one has passion and steam, with some good supporting characters and some knuckle-biting action. There were even some humorous interludes as the hero and heroine try to one-up each other in the courtship stakes. I just found the main premise unconvincing.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
What A Scot wants was a really good book it would be the first one that I’ve read by Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan I can’t wait to read more by these authors in the future . Even though this is a series it can be read as a standalone the characters from the first two Tartans and Titans do make an appearance and that’s one of the many reasons why I want to read them . Love the fact that Ronan and Imogen try to repeal the other but in the end they saw each other through the facade . Imogen was a true , kind , funny , and just a beautiful lady . I could understand Ronans frustration with what he had to do he had his funny moments when he pretended to perceive a certain persona but he couldn’t hide himself from the heroine for long . I can’t wait to read more by these authors they wrote a really good story with amazing characters .

Highlander Ronan Maclaren Duke of Dunrannoch must marry, but he’s in no particular hurry. He’s perfectly happy as the laird of his clan, running the Maclaren Whisky Distillery.
Lady Imogen Kinley has cleverly avoided wedlock for years. Men, she has learned from painful experience, are not to be trusted. I love the authors’ books & this one didn’t disappoint, yes it could easily be read on its own but all the books about the Maclarens are very, very good so if you love series then I’d recommend reading them all. This book ticked all the boxes for me, two of my favourite tropes, marriage of convenience & enemies to lovers. The characters were well portrayed & had plenty of depth. I loved Ronan & Imogen & their first meeting was hilarious as was their betrothal ball as each was determined the other would cry off & their antics had me laughing out loud. They both wanted to deny their attraction, which only grew and grew. I also loved that Ronan’s siblings made appearances so it was great to catch up on their lives. Whilst this was a fun & entertaining read it also had its darker side with a villain out for revenge & who threatened everything Imogen held dear. I’ll miss the Maclarens
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
A smashing success. Ronan and Imogen are being forced into a betrothal and have drawn the battle lines. Both are stubborn and fiercely independent which lead to plenty of sparks. It is an emotional roller coaster as you will laugh at all the antics they get up to as well as sigh in anguish at the pain Imogen is reliving. They have to struggle against those who would like to tear them apart by force as well. I love the witty repertoire and the fight in the female characters in this story and the series. You will enjoy not one single minute of boredom as you turn the pages to the end of their well deserved happiness.
I really liked this book. It was also hysterically funny! These two were SO creative when it came to how they were trying to chase off the other. There were more than a couple of times when I laughed out loud at their shenanigans. And the way the author described some it made it even funnier. I’m thinking about Imogen and her showing up with a draft horse to a park filled with society people. “A massive horse about nine hundred yeas old, plodded along the street, slower than ice could freeze.” Yes, that one did make me laugh out loud for sure. I think I might have even giggled for a while too!
It’s not all fun and games though because there are some unscrupulous people lurking around both Imogen and Ronan. And they are dead serious on getting what they want. All of that leads to a whole lot of action. It also caused me to wonder how in the world Imogene was going to escape an ex-fiance Silas and his obsession with her.
It all comes to a dramatic end and with a sweet Epilogue.

This is the first book I’ve read by these authors and I really enjoyed it. I hadn’t realized that this book was part of a series, however, you don’t need to have read the series to enjoy the story. Although, after enjoying this book I intend to go back and read the previous books in the series. This book is about Ronan and Imogen and how they plan to trick the other person to back out of the betrothal contract that their parents had signed. Both of the characters would experience significant losses if he/she backs out of the contract so they are trying to get the other person to back out first. Ronan and Imogen have both experienced negative things when it comes to love in the past and have zero desire to marry anyone. I really enjoyed the banter between the two characters and reading about them falling in love. The antics the two of them acted upon had me laughing out loud one minute and then just wanting to smack them another moment. I loved how Ronan is the first person to stand up for his family and the people he loves. The way Ronan stood by Imogen’s side when her traumatic past came to light for the other characters (not the reader…we discover early on what happened to her) was phenomenal and demonstrated the true depth of Ronan’s character. Imogen did have a very traumatic experience, which drove the story for the villain, so please be aware of that while reading the story. That being said, overall, I really did enjoy the story, the interactions between Ronan and Imogen were nothing less than superb and the secondary characters add additional depth to the story (especially if you have already read the previous books in the series). Now it’s time for me to go and read the other books in the series!!

This is such an absolutely wonderful story to read!! The authors, Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan, did an excellent job at writing this one together. My thanks to you both for writing such an enjoyable book for us readers to read:)
I so loved Imogene and Ronan, both characters are stubborn, set in their ways and loathe each other before they even meet! They find themselves into a forced betrothal and I laughed so much at their antics to try everything they could to make one of them break the contract!!! As the weeks go by, though, their feelings shift and sensuous passions set them on fire. Unfortunately each of them have someone from their past come back into their lives and in Imogene’s case, she’s in true danger.
I highly recommend this book!! I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I did not think this story could top A Lord for the Lass because I loved Julien. I was wrong. This story, my favorite in this series, surpassed my love for Julien and brought me a new love, Ronan. Everything about this story worked. Ronan and Imogen are hilarious and the banter and double-entendres had me laughing out loud. The compassion of these two and their fight for each other was truly a delight to read. A lovely story.

4.5 stars
Highland duke Ronan Maclaren, the Duke of Dunrannoch, is serious-minded and dedicated to leading his clan and doing what’s best for them, namely maintaining the Maclaren Whiskey Distillery that is their main livelihood. He knows he must marry eventually given his position and titles, but hasn’t found the right woman who truly moves him yet, or one he can trust.
Lady Imogen Kinley has similarly avoided marriage for years. After a devastating event in her past, she knows men can’t be trusted and is determined to maintain her independence and her inheritance to support Haven, the charitable women’s shelter she established and runs herself.
When the old duke’s will puts forth an ultimatum, Ronan and Imogen find themselves betrothed, with something each holds dear at stake if they back out. Each unwilling half of this couple sets out to get the other to cry off, setting into motion a battle of wits and wills, fired by plenty of physical attraction, and possibly even the chance for real love.
Both Imogen and Ronan had painful pasts and it was nice to see them eventually open up to one another. With exes hovering and eager to make trouble, there is plenty of drama and rough water for them to navigate, but it brought them closer together and made their falling in love believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and will anticipate further installments in the series.
