Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach is a fierce and independent Scots lass. She has no intention to marry–to submit to a man–especially not an Englishman. But when she meets a devilish stable lad on the way to London, she can’t help but sneak a kiss with the handsome stranger, sure to never see him again. Nick Wyeth is not a stable lad. He’s Viscount Stirling, and heir to one of the most powerful dukes … most powerful dukes in the realm. If their indiscretion is discovered, Isobel will be forced to marry him, to succumb to a fate she has always spurned. Nick wants nothing but to call this wild Scottish lass his own, and is determined to show her how an English Viscount can make her swoon, and be his forever in What a Highlander’s Got To Do by New York Times bestselling author Sabrina York.

A book worthy of wild child Isobel Dounreay Lochlannah! Yay Sabrina gave us her story and gave us a Hero worthy of that determined, independent free spirit of a child we met in her Aunt Hannah and Mother Susannah’s books #1 & #2. I have to say, Isobel stole any scene she was in as a child. She was such a force and this book gives us her hero who loves her just the way she is. Perfection!
Edward Nicholas Wyeth, Viscount Stirling, heir to the Duke of Moncrieff is “Nick” to his friends and when they want to tease him they call him “Edward The Third” as there are so many proliferating in the family and friend circle. He likes to escape his title occasionally and just go for a ride on his horse and be an everyday man. Out on one of these jaunts he stumbles on Isobel riding a stallion at breakneck speed toward a washed out bridge she can’t see. He “rescues” her and she’s fighting mad since she had the horse under control being an excellent horsewoman. She was working off a temper in her favorite way. She’s on her way for her first Season in London and the Marriage Mart she doesn’t want. She made up her mind ages ago she wasn’t marriage material. Edward has always remained unentangled not wanting to be tied down to a woman. There is instant attraction and Isobel decides to find out what passion is all about since she’ll never marry and she’s never felt attraction for anyone before. Neither one knows who the other is. She thinks him a stable hand and he figures she’s someone Scot maid. How very WRONG they are.
They meet again in London and sparks fly as Isobel feels lied to and Nick just wants her and knows no one that compares with her. I loved how Nick tries to problem solve into Isobel’s heart and Isobel is so true to her character all through the book. I wondered how Sabrina would change her mind about marriage since she’s so stubborn but she did a great job. I adored everything about this story but then I have always been captured by the heart Sabrina pours into her stories.
Thank you St. Martin’s Press and Sabrina York for granting me a NetGalley ARC for my honest review.
I am rating this 3.5 rounded up to a 4 because I’m assuming (fervently hoping) that all of the errors in titles and forms of address will be fixed before publication. The book is rife with them – as an example, the wife of a Viscount is not a countess. This is not the author’s first book written in this period, so I just have to believe that those errors will be fixed before publication.
I have been looking forward to this book to see what Isobel would be getting up to next, but I just couldn’t get myself to really like her or to be invested in her character. What were cute antics in a five-year-old were just annoying and childish in an adult – and I didn’t really think she had matured very much. She seemed very selfish and didn’t seem to care that the actions she took hurt other people very deeply. I thought Catriona would have been a much better heroine. She was just as strong and fierce as Isobel, but she was also loving and open to trying new things and new people. I LOVED Nick! He was definitely a keeper!
I absolutely loved how Isobel and Nick met. It was priceless and their time together at Newcastle was wonderful. I loved how they got to know each other and each mistook the other for a servant. They came to care for each other without knowing titles, status, etc.
The book is filled with humor and you’ll find many moments where you’ll find yourself smiling – if not laughing. The hellions are priceless.
I also loved how Isobel, her entire family and Nick’s family dealt with Celia and her mother. I have ALWAYS wanted to see that happen. I would have really liked to see Nick deal with Celia’s brother for what he said to her at the ball (or was it a party).
I would have liked it had the Epilogue been just another chapter and that there was an Epilogue that took place at some point in the future when there is a baby and a gathering. Maybe even with one child three or four years old and just as wild as she was and another baby on the way.
The story was fast paced and never boring – even though the heroine was annoying. I really failed to figure out exactly what she was so afraid of because the reason she gave was much too modern for that time period and I just couldn’t buy it.
It is a good read and I will really be looking forward to reading Catriona’s story.

“I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.”
What A Highlander’s Got To Do by Sabrina York is a fabulous read. Ms. York has once again captured my attention and kept me chained to my e-reader with this well-written book. Kudos to Ms. York for her amazing characters and dialog. Isobel is a sassy, feisty Scottish lass on her way to London, much to her dismay. She has no love for English Lords and wants no part of having an English husband. Nick is an English Viscount but neglected to tell Isobel when they first met. Their story is packed with drama, action, humor, sizzle and suspense. I loved reading this book, I enjoyed Isobel as a child, reading her story as an adult is total fun. I look forward to my next book by Sabrina York. What A Highlander’s Got To Do is book 5 of the Untamed Highlanders Series but can be read as a standalone.
This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book that I received from NetGalley.
What a Highlander’s Got to Do, was my first book by Sabrina York and I loved it! I am so glad I got this book from Netgalley, (on a whim because the cover was sexy) because I fell in love with the Untamed Highlanders world. This was the 5th book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. I fell so in love with all of Isobel and Nick’s family that I will be going back and reading all their books as well. Sabrina York’s writing style was amazing. She really brought the characters to life. Nick was absolutely scrumptious. He was sexy, sweet, playful, and protective. He loved Isobel just as she was. He fell hard for her and he pursued her like the 1/2 Scottish beast he was. Isobel was very likable. Headstrong, stubborn, wild and independent to the point of reckless at times, Isobel made laugh, smile and want to shake some sense into her in equal measures.
Nick and Isobel had combustible passion. They made a really cute couple, and I was totally invested in their relationship. This book was a 5 star read for me, until Isobel did something stupid and made me want to rip my hair out. I could overlook it for the most part because she was so likable, but it dimmed my enjoyment of this book a tad. Still this was a good 4 star read for me. There was so much Scottish fun in this book. Cute wild Scottish children, sexy Scottish men and Sweet loving couples. I laughed and smiled a lot while reading. I fell in love with not only the main couple but the secondary characters as well. Sabrina York has a new fangirl. Now I have to go buy the secondary character’s books so I can enjoy all their stories too!
Oh my! Remember that “very precocious prodigy five year old” from Susana and the Scot? I wasn’t fond of Isobel then, but she is all grown up now. Yes, she did grow up to be “wild Scot.” I like the feisty young woman full sass that she has become. I must add too, these Highlanders are a “prolific” group. Ten, yes that is ten, “hellions” under the age of ten amongst the the three original sisters – Hannah, Susana, and Lana. What a brood! I have to give kudos to the world of fiction that made traveling with this small, underage army – in carriages no less – sound like an adventure. I shutter just to think of it. But “the hellions” added some very entertaining moments to the story.
But I digress. Nick and Isobel. Being five when her mother finally settled down with her father and their HEA seemed to have a profound affect on Isobel. She doesn’t want to ever get married – especially to a Brit. Then she meets Nick. *sigh* Oh what a meeting!
But who is Nick? (Fair warning, I am going to refer to yet another of Sabrina York’s series, but please know, you do not have to have read any of them to enjoy this book. I just happen to be a HUGE fan of Ms York and have been reading everything she has written since she started writing. So I tend to go on a bit when characters from other stories show up. If you haven’t read any Sabrina York books, this is a fun one to start with, but I bet you will want to read the others too. They are worth it!) Okay, in the Noble Passions series was the Dark Duke. *fanning self* (Hot story.) Nick is the Dark Duke’s son and heir. The parents are overjoyed at the potential liaison between their progeny, so you can imagine some of the machinations. Yes, hijinks ensued.
I loved this story. It held me enthralled throughout. I did not put the book down until I finished it. All I can say is thank goodness I waited until this morning to start reading and that I had nothing else planned for today. Sabrina York has done it again. Another winner.
You know you are in for an exceptional reading experience when you start a new book and you realize as you read the first chapter you are totally captivated by the author’s storyline and totally drawn to its main characters of Edward (Nick) Wyeth, Viscount Stirling a swoon worthy patient and sometimes frustrated hero and Isobel Lochlannach a strong willed and independent Scottish lass who is very opinionated when it came to her feelings about English Lords, love and marriage. One of my all-time favorite genres to read is Scottish Highlander Regency Romances. In my opinion this novel is an example of Scottish Romance at its Best! This story had it all, impeccable writing, strong multi- dimensional characters that are believable and endearing, a plot with substance that is masterfully written and keeps the reader interested in how it will end as well as twists, turns and an epilogue that enhances the plot. It has all the elements of a really good romance with just the right amount of emotion, drama and wit. Many people purchase a book by storyline for that reason I don’t do detailed storyline spoilers. I feel it is unfair to the author to describe the book in detail when writing is their livelihood. In my personal opinion, this story is an outstanding read that I highly recommend.
I received an advanced readers copy from the Publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion. It was a pleasure to read and review this book.
What a Highlander’s Got To Do by Sabrina York
Untamed Highlanders #5
Looking for an easy to read simple romance that is rather predictable?
Want a feisty female heroine?
Want a Lord to marry the heroine?
Want a horse chase and save?
Want push-pull with both H&h undecided?
This might be the book for you.
That said…I really liked the previous books in this series but felt this one needed more…more about why Isobel was so leery…why Nick was the way he was…why Celia and her mom go away with what they did…so many times…The story was wrapped up in a bow by the end but it was not my favorite book by this author. That said…I will read her next book to see if I like it better.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
2-3 Stars
I loved the story of Nick and Isobel. With the way it was written, I could just see him in his kilt in my mind by the descriptions given! Isobel is extremely strong minded and knows what she wants, or at least she thought she did until she met Nick. Nick sets out to win her and has his hands full! The ending was pretty awesome I must say! I was given an ARC by NetGalley.
Mistaken identity often turns out delightful. Such is that case with Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach, meets a stable hand ( or so she thinks) who saves her from a terrible accident. Nick Wyeth, Viscount Stirling is enchanted when he meets her and there is definitely a strong spark of attraction between the two. Of course there will be nothing easy between Isobel, who is a very independent, feisty Scottish lass and Nick, an English lord determined to have her. Meeting in secret and still having not knowing each others identity, they part when Isobel goes to London with her family. Well as fate would have it they meet again in London and each finds out the others true identity. This is a delightful story that enchants with the banter back and forth between the two. But Isobel wants to be back in Scotland and have her freedom and Nick just wants her for himself. A light read with some drama and a lot of emotions that overall was enjoyable.
This is a quirky, entertaining and thoroughly delightful romance between a young Scottish woman named Isobel and a man named Nick. Isobel is a guest of a family friend at their country estate and while there she meets a very attractive young man named Nick. Not being interested in marriage, even though her parents are expected any moment to arrive to take her to London for a season, Isobel, who is rather unconventional, decides to have a fling with Nick. Isobel reasons that she finds Nick, whom she believes is a stable boy on the estate, incredibly attractive and it may be her one chance at experiencing passion, since she does not plan to ever marry. Nick is fascinated with Isobel and their little tête-à-tête is tete- hot!
Before she even has a chance to say her goodbyes, Isobel’s family, in all of their hilarity, swoop in and take her to London. It’s there she begins to miss “ Nick”. She occasionally thinks she sees or hears him in the distance, could it be him? Of course it could! That’s because “Nick” is actually not what or whom he seemed, and he’s looking for Isobel too.
This was such a fun story with a few twists and turns that were unexpected, colorful personalities that added to the plot, funny moments, and two likeable main characters. I highly recommend this book to readers of romance who enjoy a story with humor and heat with their hea.
I read this as an arc on Netgalley which affected my review in no way at all.
Fiercely independent and sworn to never marry, especially one of those padded peacock English Lords, Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach takes off on a wild ride only to be swept off her feet by a handsome stranger. Nick Wyeth aka Viscount Stirling, is mesmerized by the sight of the beautiful Scottish lass, and while he has sworn himself to bachelorhood, one taste of her sweet lips, and he knows he must have more. Isobel’s fear of losing her independence threatens to destroy the love growing between her and Nick. So what’s a Highlander got to do to win the love of this wild Scottish lass?
For those of us that have been following Sabrina York’s Untamed Highlanders series, this installment is exactly what we have been waiting to read! Finally! Isobel gets her own story! *Happy Dance*
As with all of the books in this series, it can be read as a standalone, but I always recommend reading the entire series to fully enjoy the characters!
*Received an ARC copy from NetGalley for honest review*
Sabrina York is a favorite author of mine and her latest book tells the story of Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach and Nick Wyeth, Viscount Stirling. Isobel meets Nick in Scotland while out riding and assumes he’s a stable boy and Nick does nothing to dissuade her. Their connection is immediate and Isobel gives into her lust figuring she’ll never see the stable boy again. She’s shocked when she meets Nick again at a London ball and he’s the heir to a duke. She’s furious he lied to her and even though their connection is undeniable, she vows never to marry. Nick is besotted and must do everything in his power to change Isobel’s mind. Can this two independent spirits come together and make a go of it?
I really enjoyed this book especially the hero, Nick. He was willing to do whatever he could to win Isobel’s hand and change her mind about marriage. Isobel was a little annoying at times, always spouting that she’s a Scottish lass and will not be tamed and will never marry. The story moves along at a good pace and there’s a few twists and turns that will keep the reader turning the pages until the end. Fans of Scottish romances will definitely enjoy this one.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This author delivers another entertaining tale as the reader keeps turning pages to see how this Scottish lass and English Viscount find their love.
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.

Isobel will soon be in London to partake in the marriage mart and she couldn’t be less thrilled. As a Scottish lass the last thing she wants is to marry an Englishman. However, the handsome stable lad, Nick, which she’s come to know intimately could make a girl think twice.
Nick is driven by passion and desire when he rescues a wild and brazen Scottish lady. Everything about her amuses or arouses him and he yearns for more moments with her. When she disappears he’s afrain he’ll never see her again. Good fortune is on his side when he finds her again in London. Unfortunately, he’s not what she’s looking for in a husband but she’ll keep him as a lover.
This was an entertaining read with plenty of humor, lots of steam and a tad of angst. The banter between this couple was so cute and charming. I loved that Nick went into automatic alpha mode whenever another man even so much as looked at Isobel.
There is a bit of push from Isobel as she is determined to remain an independent woman and return to her homeland. My heart hurt for Nick as he longed for everything from her but was brusquely informed he could expect no more than what they already had.
The ending had a bit of drama and then a small epilogue that didn’t give us too much look into their future. Overall, this was a very enjoyable read.
This is an honest review of an advanced copy provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press Swerve.
