Book 2 of 5 in the Gentleman Courtesans Series.Lady Lucinda Bowery has decided to cast off mourning attire and begin moving on from the loss of her husband. Hiring the gentleman courtesan known as an experienced dominant seems like just the thing to propel her out of bereavement and back to life. She intends for him to give her pleasure, and perhaps help her find a bit of the woman she was before … of the woman she was before being widowed.
Aubrey Drake became a courtesan to help bolster his expanding business, as well as provide a trousseau and dowry for his ward. Over time he has grown bored catering to women who only see him as an exotic offering to be enjoyed temporarily and then discarded. Thus, the thrill of mastering a submissive bedmate has lost its luster, leaving him cold. When Lady Bowery is suggested as his new keeper, he expects to be as apathetic toward her as all the others. But, when sparks fly at their first meeting, Aubrey becomes determined to master Lucinda in every way possible—even though she seems intent on keeping him at arm’s length.
As she finds comfort and pleasure with her new courtesan, Lucinda finds it increasingly difficult to deny that what she feels for him goes beyond simple lust. Yet, embracing the possibility of a future with him means letting go of her past.
Aubrey is determined to win Lucinda’s heart, but she still clings to the memory of her first husband. Can Lucinda come to return Aubrey’s love before it’s too late?

This is my favourite book of the series so far, it has everything. It is super sexy, at times poignant, had a real story and a hint of mystery trying to find out who the gossip is. There were humorous moments and some sad ones and a hint of what is to come. It has a happy ending that makes the reader melt and it was a story I thoroughly enjoyed and made me really look forward to the next Courtesan book.
I have been anxiously awaiting this books release and it did NOT disappoint. A beautiful erotic story of 2 people who want and need each other in a powerful way. While they inhabit two separate societies, they find common ground in their love and passion for each other. While it’s unusual to find an interracial story in this time period, they did exist and this is beautifully written.
While this book does contain erotica, it is tastefully written and this does not interfere with the plot of the story. And yes—there is a plot, it is not all sex and bondage. You will fall in love with Aubrey and Lucinda. Of course, this story sizzles in true Victoria Vale style, in the way only she can do.
Do not plan on starting this book until you have a full day to devote to reading—it is that good and you will not want to put it down! I have been locked in my room since I received it, with a “do not disturb (unless you are Aubrey)” sign on my door. . This book will hold your attention until the very end and the epilogue will leave you on the edge of your seat. I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
I don’t do “spoilers”, but you do not want to miss out on this one! I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review! 5 stars is not enough for this book!
This second book of this series is by far the best one yet! The story of Aubrey and Lucy is so beautifully written, emotionally gripping, and truly heartwarming. The ups and downs these two go through to find love again pulls you in and does not let go til the very end.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
