~Wesley~Yeah, I don’t trust them.Who are they? The family who takes me in after they catch me making a rare mistake. They offer me a deal that allows me to make amends while staying with them and working. I’ve never had a permanent home and I’d long since run away from the foster care system after my last “home” had someone using my back for a cigarette tray. My means of supporting myself? … myself? Whatever necessary. That includes anything and everything I needed to do to survive. That’s all my life has been about anyway: survival. And you know what? I’ve done just that. Survived. And thrived while doing so.
Then this strange family decides to rescue me. Though not for a moment do I need rescuing. I’ve made my life something interesting and important while remaining independent. I’m neither homeless, nor a criminal. I’ll do my penance in this small town of Silver Springs, but nothing will make me lose sight of the life waiting for me on the road.
I don’t trust their motives for a second and I’m ready at any moment for it to go wrong. Nothing is going to make me believe in them. Even as I meet Dani Dawson, who is a waitress in the café where I work and is dating the son of the family I’m staying with. She tries to show me a softer side to life. Still, I know that nothing lasts: not food, shelter, parents, friends, brothers, families, and certainly not love. Especially if you’re relying on others for it. I rely on no one but myself. Always have and always will. No matter what. So, I’m ready for it all to go to crap, but until then? Joke’s on all of them and I’ll take advantage of it until the very last moment.

Wesley is the first in the Son Series. Wesley is a traveller, meaning he moves around a lot. He grew up in foster care and was not treated well by the system – sexual, emotional and physical abuse were all things he dealt with, so he decided to keep himself safe he would travel. Until his friend needs money, he never stole, but he did to help her out. He found a barn to stay in over night to get out of the rain, and was caught by Dani Dawson and then Tara Kincaid. Tara talks Ryder into letting Wesley live with them and earn the money to pay back the charity he stole from with lots of extra, and earn money for himself. Wesley and Wyatt (Tara and Ryder’s son who were all in a couple of the sister’s books) butted heads from day one. Tara saw herself in Wesley and wanted to help him, and he aided her with her need to mother. Wesley finds himself enjoying learning things from Ryder and Tara and is in awe of this family and the way they act every day. Dani and Wesley have some chemistry but he knows she is dating Wyatt, and the two have their lives mapped out, but do they? This story is heartbreaking in all that Wesley endured and the fact that he thinks no one will ever want him around and that he does not deserve love. Dani is smart beyond her years in how she responds to him. You really need to pick this up to see how much everyone in this changed and grew up. I’d say the biggest changes were in Wyatt and Wesley. I look forward to Wyatt’s story next. Once again, Leanne Davis touched on subjects that need attention in a caring and non-controversial way. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. You could read this without reading the sister series, but I believe you will get more out of it knowing the background of Tara and Ryder (just my opinion).
This is the 3rd book I have read by Leanne Davis and I love of her writing. She has a knack of writing characters who you can’t help but like. They may be different but I have liked them all. Wesley was just that. The first chapter had my heart beating! I wanted so much for him to have his chance at a better life although he doesn’t seem to bothered by his nomad lifestyle. There’s so much beneath the surface of these characters. I adored Tara. Dani proved that you can have everything planned but a chance meeting can change everything. Highly recommend!
Wesley was not what I expected. I love when an author grabs my attention (okay, my heart) and doesn’t let go. Wesley faces so much in his life that I couldn’t help but feel for him. I cried and I rooted for him. His struggles and turmoil are true to life and even though I could not relate, I wanted so much for him. He finds the stability and love of a family that he doesn’t think he’ll ever want or need in his life. He’s not a troublemaker or into anything that would have you turn your back on him, he’s just a wonderer trying to find his way and survive. I love the family he meets and what they show him. Leanne Davis has become a favorite of mine as she writes stories, we may not be comfortable with but need to be told. I have already added the next stories to my “to be read” shelf and I can’t wait.
Another great topic from this series. Love from a family can mean everything. Wesley learns about love and family. Great story.
Ms Davis is a new to me author and I will certainly be reading some more.
Wesley is a young man who was let down by the system. He has become a traveller, living from his trusty backpack and exploring the world. He finds work where he can and is very self sufficient. It is a carefully learned lifestyle that he seems quite content to live. He doesn’t have to worry about the normal worries of life, a job he doesn’t like because he as bills to pay, etc. But it can certainly be lonely more times than not.
Dani was certain she had her life all figured out, ready to head off to college with her best friend turned boyfriend. A father that loves her more and anything and is always understanding and there for her. Until the interesting traveller finds his way into her town and makes her begin to wonder if she really has it all figured out.
Watching Wesley learn to trust again was emotional. His hidden thoughts that sneak out here and there about liking the interaction with the family that helps him. They take him in and show him what it should be like. As he starts to grow attachments to these people he also has to deal with more feeling he has hidden from his past.
Will the prove to Wesley that it is OK to stay and to get emotionally involved with people? Not all people will hurt you and let you down. Could he finally have found a home and a place he feels he belongs?
Wesley is foster child who works odd jobs and find life easier on the run better than settling down, safe from victimization. He gets in trouble and his punishment is to become part of the family. As a loner and a foster child, he doesn’t know the meaning of true love. Wesley had to deal with a lot of issues, which are domestic violence and sexual molestation, and other issues, but the author does it in good taste. The blinding truth in the book was that family is not just blood relatives, but the ones you form bonds with and care about on a day to day basis. I loved the book.
I had a hard time getting into this book. It is different than I normally read. But I stuck with it and I’m glad I did. Such a unique story of a young man who has been through the system and lived to tell about it. Barely. He has scars, both internally as well as external. He doesn’t trust anyone. When a friend is desperate for money, he can’t let her down. What he chooses to do is rob an old lady collecting money for a charity. Not his best choice. Wesley is a Traveller. He doesn’t call anyplace home and spends his time doing odd jobs to keep himself stable. When he chooses a barn to campout in to get out of the rain, he is caught by a pitchfork wielding girl. He is caught and his story starts to come out. The ranch he camped at, owned by Tara and Ryder, is about to become his new home until he can payoff his debt to the charity. Tara understands his story, she’s lived it. What he didn’t expect was to catch the eye of Dani, girlfriend to Wyatt. Wyatt is Ryder’s son and is usually away at college. The looks, casual touches, and great conversations with Dani lead to the beginning of a beautiful friendship, then leads to more. Dani is Wesley’s first everything. Although his past is tragic and disturbing, he falls under the spell of Dani and finds a reason to trust people again.
This was my first read from Leanne Davis. It was well written with a lot of thought put into the characters. Thank you Leanne Davis for bringing us Wesley. It ended up being so good I ordered the second book Wyatt.
Wesley is the first book in the Sons series. Once i started, i couldn’t put it down. Wesley had not so good experiences in the foster care system. He left and is now a traveler. He goes where he wants and when he needs something, he works for it. But just once he decides to steal. He gets caught but the family has a different idea instead of turning him in. What a great and loving story. It has its ups and downs but Wesley get a new start at a life he never knew he could have.
Author Leanne Davis has written a story that will steal your heart! I’ve read a few of her books in The Rivers End series and loved them! But thus one right here,,, oh man!!! Wesley will steal your heart! This boy was dealt a crappy hand by the foster care system, treated in such a horrible way that will gut you. But instead of it breaking him, he runs away and becomes a traveler, only to find himself in a sticky situation. Stumbling upon some people who give him a break, he ends up getting the life he never knew he needed!
This book will steal your heart!!! I can’t wait to devour the rest of the series!!!
Wesley’s story started off with a quick bang. Him meeting Dani changed his wandering ways. His past slowing came into focus, explains some of the things that made him the way he was. Really enjoyed more of Ryder and Tara and was a little bit disappointed in Wyatt at first. The book had the perfect ending.
Wesley is a young man on the run after he stole money from a lady collecting for a charity. Yet he ends up in a barn belonging to Tara and Ryder Kincaid where he is caught by Tara and Dani Dawson. Tara recognizes herself in Wesley and makes him a deal to earn back the money he stole and earn some extra for when he leaves town again.
Dani Dawson is dating Tara and Ryder’s son Wyatt and is extremely close to the family but there is something about Wesley that intrigues her. But she knows that Wesley will be leaving town the moment he can so is Dani ready to dig deeper?
Can Dani teach Wesley the value of “family” and that there are genuinely good people out there before he decides to leave again?
This is another great story by the author with lots of twists and turns and interesting issues for the characters.
Wesley was super interesting as he didn’t consider himself to be homeless yet he traveled where he wanted and lived where he needed to and worked when he had to in order to earn extra money. He never stole until he had to get the money to someone asap and he knew it was important. Wesley never had an easy time growing up and I am shocked by the things he went through as a child. The things he experienced were horrific and I hate hearing stories like this, made up or not. From that I really understood why he was reluctant to get close to the Kincaid family but gradually they were able to break down his walls.
Dani was interesting as she was going through her own issues with Wyatt when Wesley came into their lives. Dani knew that she loved Wyatt but that something was missing but had to figure it out on her own and she was also torn due to the past they shared.
I loved how Tara took Wesley in and how she really made Ryder open up as well and realize the good that they were doing. I loved how attached they all became, except for Wyatt who initially was so mad at the situation. Yet gradually they all watched everyone come together and learn and grow from each other.
I was really looking forward to seeing how everything was going to play out, especially after the camping trip as I knew how both Wesley and Dani felt but they grew up so differently that it made me wonder. I loved how Wyatt put the pieces together and knew what he had to do!
The end made me so happy and I am really looking forward to Wyatt’s book next!
Wesley, a kid that was abused and neglected by the system. Finds love and family. He doesn’t think he needs them, but discovers that he always wanted it.
Now I went into this book with my own thoughts and ideas, however, Leanne Davis has left me speechless yet again. I honestly and truly enjoy anything and everything this author writes and this book is not any different. Really amazing start to the son series and I cannot wait to see where she takes us from here. Fantastic book and highly recommended.
Awesome
Wow Leanne your books are so good.Wesley is what he calls him self a traveler and ends up in the Kincaid barn out of the weather.Once they find him Tara puts together that he is the one that stole from a elderly lady and wants to decide his punishment since she feels jail time just won’t help. They agree upon his punishment and he has to work and repay what he stole. They love having him and he enjoys the work and learning new things when his time is up will he be able to just move on.ONE CLICK this you will love it
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Wesley grew up in the foster care system until he runs away to survive on his own. He has trust issues. A standalone read and the start to this series. Cannot wait to read the next one in the series.
This was an interesting take on a traveller having to pay penance in a small town. He struggles with kindness of family, and I think while smart as a whip, he was often childlike in some needs of a basic human. Love comes in many forms. This book also shows human kindness and not all is as it seems.
Wesley
Wesley and Dani’s story for me was a great twist. I really enjoyed this read. Davis puts a hard light on the life of a foster child’s life as an adult. Wesley was depicted in such a great way to show the trauma that happens to youth and what even happens in the foster system. However, Dani totally takes Wesley and begins to put his broken spirit back together through love. Powerful read!!!
I’m already a huge fan of this author and love absolutely everything she writes…
But this book was just WOW OMG WOW!!!! AMAZING!!! From page one you will be hooked and unable to put it down. It is sad, adventurous, heart wrenching, scary, funny, tragedy, etc. An amazing love story !!! I loved the connection Wesley had with Tara and the unpredictable hot steamy love with Dani. I love that Ryder made him feel like a son…it was just an everything kinda read. Can’t wait for book 2.
Loved this!!! I’ve read River’s End Series by Leanne and love it, but Wesley is by far my favorite book by her. The horrible childhood Wesley had left him damaged and afraid to trust anyone. That is, until he finds himself in trouble trying to help a friend who is a fellow traveler. A loving family gives him a place to stay a way to work off the debt he owes without having to go to jail, plus to save some money for himself so when he was ready to leave. They teach him what it’s like to be part of a family and to actually feel loved for the very first time in his life. Dani falls for him and he confides in her as he has with no one else, ever. She shows him what it’s really liked to be loved and to be able to love and trust someone so deeply.
Westley was a wanderer never staying in one place very long. In a small town, Westley was caught doing wrong. Instead of turning him into the authorities, the Kincaids took him in and allowed him to work to pay for what he had taken. There he met Dani. Westley did not trust the Kincaids because he could not believe someone would give a second chance. I urge you to read Westley by Leanne Davis. It proves how a person can change a bad life into a good life if someone will give them honest care and concern.
