I was fascinated to learn about the habits of a barn owl. Wesley made me fall in love with him, just as the author did. I cried at the end, as Wesley did eventually die, but to know him through this book was worth every tear shed.
What an entertaining book this was. I love birds anyway but learned so much more about owls. This touching story was informative, endearing and very well written.
I am always enthralled by the bond between humans and animals. This book explains that bond with humor and insight.
I am an animal lover and an Owl lover so I can’t figure out how I only just found this delightful book. It was such an easy read, but it made me think, laugh, cry and wish it would go on longer. It is a must read for anyone who loves any animals, but especially owls.
This book is very well-written and gives us a great blend of scientific and humane outlooks. It gives us a better insight into ourselves, the world around us and our relationship to it.

What an awesome story Stacey!!!! I loved every page and it was sad to see it end, and my heart goes out to you, for not only losing Wesley but that your health is what it is. Stay strong.
O’Brien did a fantastic job bringing the reader into her world with Wesley. It was an irreplaceable opportunity to see into the intimate relationship between a human and wild animal. I learned a lot about wild animals and it reinforced my own belief all sentient beings have emotion and brains that function differently from our own, but are not inferior. Anyone who has a pet knows they communicate with us in different ways, but nonetheless communicate clearly what their needs are. We just need to be observant enough to figure out what it is they are saying. O’Brien, as a biologist, learned how to closely observe the owl and share her insight with us. I couldn’t put this book down.
