Billionaire businessman in need of a fake fiancée… go wrong as long as I can keep my hands off of him.
But that’s the hard part. And I do mean hard.
Because Grant is sexy.
And bossy.
And surprisingly sweet, a real rarity in his pretentious family.
Oops. I’m not as good at faking it as I thought. Or maybe they call this method acting. Because it’s getting harder to figure out where my character ends and I begin…
It just might be the role of a lifetime.
Weekend Wife is a standalone romantic comedy with a sexy billionaire, a sassy heroine, and a Happily Ever After.

Weekend Wife was so good I’ve read it twice already. I was so excited when I saw Erin McCarthy had a new book out, but I had no idea I was going to like it as much as I do. If you love RomComs you will thoroughly enjoy this.
Weekend Wife will have you laughing out loud and cheering Leah and Grant on. I love the sassiness Leah brings to the plate. She is a breathe of fresh air. She is independent and not looking for hand outs. Grant is bossy and used to not wanting for anything. They make for a perfect match and their chemistry will just prove that. You will love the meet the family moments. Leah and Grant are amazing. I couldn’t put this one down. If you are looking a romcom then look in further then the Weekend Wife.
Reading Progress
Yup this one definitely a perfect read for rom-com fans, it’s hilarious, so many cheesy embarassing moments that makes me laugh out loud and blushing. It’s also so sweet and steamy. Although the relationship between Leah and Grant a bit unbelieveable and kinda absurd and weird for me at the beginning, in the end I root for this couple.
This one is a fast-paced rom-com read, if that’s your cup of tea, then this is the perfect book for you.
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve read an Erin book so honestly, it felt like a first time to me LOL I read way too many books to be skipping years with authors! But no matter.
I loved this story!
Not because it was fresh or new or innovating or or or … it was just fun. And the cover! Another #CoverWin for the books. That pose right there that has Leah with her foot up screams sexy and flirty and fun. And you know what this story was …. Sexy and flirty and FUN! #winning Every plot point in this story was humorous and well done. There were no eye-rolls coming from me on this one, even if the conflict wasn’t exactly unpredictable, because the story-line had a feel-good buzz to it and the chemistry between Leah and Grant was spot on. I highly rec this for ya’ll!
Overall Grade:
Weekend Wife is my first book foray into the Erin McCarthy world. What drew me quickly to this book and piqued my interest in reading an ARC of it is the “opposites attract, rom-com” qualities of its story. As is the case with the best of rom-coms, this story will both tickle your funny bone and offer up a sweet happy ending.
This story follows Grant and Leah. Leah is a server at a diner where aspiring actors sing and serve food. Grant is a regular customer and the object of Leah’s eye. She has flirted with him and hoped for a quick romp in the bedroom, but her general impression is that he is a bit uptight and not interested. Until the day that Grant makes it known that he is keen for Leah. Neither of these two is hoping for anything more than a quick connection. However, once they decide to consummate their attraction, their chemistry becomes clear. This leaves the two of them wanting more but afraid to act on it. Unfortunately, Grant, a wealthy real estate developer, receives a summons from his father that, if he doesn’t find a girlfriend, he will remove Grant from the family real estate business. Still feeling attracted to Leah and knowing she’s an actress, he asks her if she will agree to act as his girlfriend at his parents’ anniversary party in the Hamptons for a weekend. Leah agrees with some trepidation because she enjoys her time with Grant. She knows that she needs to be careful because this isn’t a promise of forever; it’s simply a job. However, she knows she could fall for Grant. With her internal fortitude in check, Leah and Grant pretend for his parents’ anniversary, but are they really pretending or has their “relationship” become real?
At its core, Erin McCarthy’s Weekend Wife is a fun traipse through the jungles of a rom-com. Leah and Grant are sweet together. McCarthy crafts their banter in such a way that you read their comfort with each other. She makes it glaringly clear early on that they are destined for couplehood even if they have very different backgrounds and lives. It’s a suggestion on McCarthy’s part that opposites easily attract, and lifestyles and backgrounds don’t create worthy relationships. Instead, easy chemistry, honesty, and lowering one’s boundaries do the trick.
Weekend Wife is also a $exual romp through the wilds of chemistry. As each page turns, McCarthy illustrates the heavy attraction between Leah and Grant. They land in bed fairly quickly in the story, and they stay there quite a bit through the progression of the story. In fact, you sometimes wonder if they are a true partnership or is it really just their attraction. McCarthy answers this question in the way that Leah burrows under Grant’s skin. This isn’t a negative. Leah brings a lightness to Grant’s dark and heavy life. He begins to change and his journey becomes cemented by the time they arrive at his parents’ party. This is McCarthy’s way of showing there is something more to Leah and Grant beyond the bedroom. Each of them makes the other person a better version of himself/herself. She creates characters that find an ease with each other, making it a pleasurable read for her audience.
Leah and Grant are not heavy, deep characters, and Weekend Wife isn’t a story fraught with high levels of tension. Instead, McCarthy writes a story that drifts easily over the page, pulling her readers into her story. Do I think she is making dramatic changes to the romantic tropes of her romance? Not particularly. However, Leah and Grant represent the point of intersection between a world of affluence and a world of financial difficulty. At that intersection, they find a deep love easily and beautifully, showing us that there is always a place at the romance table for a sweet story in any form.
Absolutely adorable!! I dare you to get swept up in this fantastic romcom that is so perfect that once you pick it up you will not put it down until the very last page (and not love every page while doing so)!
Neither Grant nor Leah are looking for long term relationships, but a quick tumble between the sheets doesn’t sound like a bad idea. They both agree they have chemistry off the charts and after a hilarious mistaken mistress package goes awry Grant decides to ask Leah to be his fake girlfriend when his father demands he arrive with one for a long weekend away in the Hamptons.
Thankfully Leah knows how to go with the flow, she is an actress after all, but nothing prepares her for a dramatic proposal in front of his family, or the feelings that begin to grow between them. A relationship between a billionaire and a bohemian shouldn’t work in the long run, but between these two you will laugh, swoon, and most likely get a little steamy while reading.
I totally enjoyed Leah and Grant’s story in Weekend Wife: A Fake Fiancée by Erin McCarthy. Take an actress, singer, and waitress, Leah, at a diner who waits on a hot, sexy, billionaire, Grant, every Wednesday for breakfast, a meal he never enjoys but wants to see Leah, and you could have this story in a nutshell; but there’s so much more. When Grant is in need of a fake fiancée he immediately thinks of Leah playing the part. Leah being an out-of-work actress means it should be no problem to pretend to be a princess when she’s really Cinderella. Grant expects her to wear designer clothing, sip champagne, and be a weekend wife; the kind a rich billionaire ignored all week, then trotted out at partied on Saturday. Nothing should go wrong as long as they both keep their hands off each other. Only, that proves to be the hardest part of the deal since they are not only attracted to each other but have off the charts chemistry. Suddenly, Leah finds she’s not as good at faking it as she thought; because it was getting harder for her to figure out where her character ends and her true feeling begin. As for Grant, Mr. bossy was finally standing up for himself and announcing his love for Leah, in front of everyone. The only problem was that no one, including Leah, believed him. Now Grant had to prove to Leah, and only Leah, that she was the one for him.
Ms. McCarthy wrote a wonderful, funny and sexy story that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, humor, and endearing characters giving Grant a chance to prove he truly loves Leah and that they really have a happy ever after future together. I highly recommend Weekend Wife to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Grant is a super serious business man who needs a woman to make his family happy.
Leah is a fun loving singing waitress who just needs her Broadway break.
She gets almost gets a break…..not the one is hoping for though.
This is Erin McCarthy at her finest! She is going back to the fun romcom writer that I fell in love with 20 years ago! A MUST read for anyone who loves the genre or her!
What a wonderful, fun, fake-fiancé story! Weekend Wife by romance author Erin McCarthy has a perfect blend of characters and storyline. Leah Romano, a struggling actress/waitress and Grant Caldwell (the third!) “accidentally” get together.
I really enjoyed the humor, relationship development, level of heat, and the dual POV! A slightly different story to go with the fake-fiancé storyline, just to appease Grant’s father…or maybe not just for that reason…4.5 stars!
I have been reading Erin McCarthy books for a long time. Long before there were review sites! I was so excited to get my hands on Weekend Wife. It truly is rom com perfection! Leah Romano is a struggling actress by night and a singing waitress by day in NYC. Grand Caldwell III is a wealthy NYC real estate developer that happened into Leah’s diner. For six months he keeps returning while she keeps flirting but nothing more until she chases him down to return something and gets hit by a cab! When Grant’s father makes an ultimatum that he get in a serious relationship or lose his job in the family business Grant decides to hire an actress to play the part and the lovely Leah is the first person that comes to mind. It was a wonderful time watching this independent woman and this entitled man fall for each other. They both have fears but love has other ideas for their hearts. Weekend Wife was told from dual POV and will make you laugh, swoon, yell and hot all over. I hope that there is more to come from this book because there is a great cast of supporting characters with stories that I would love to read!
Weekend Wife I think is the first rom-com that had me laughing hardcore by Erin McCarthy. I love her books, but this one was light, fun, and flirty. Grant and Leigh made my favorite couple list. Grant and his quirky remarks made me smile. Leigh’s antics were what was needed to complete these two. I can’t recommend this book enough!
Weekend Wife by Erin McCarthy is the story of Grant Caldwell and Leah Romano.
Leah is a struggling actress who has to do a waitress job to help pay the bills. Grant is a man that she waits on at the dinner for the last few months. Leah has had an attraction to him that is all just keeps growing. Grant is a New York Real Estate Developer whose family is starting to play the heavy hand on him not being married. To help ease the issue he thinks a fake fiancée would do the trick. Neither Leah nor Grant have interest in being married but their attraction is so strong that they can’t do anything but go forward to explore it.
This was a fun and steamy read. Really enjoyed it.
Weekend Wife is my first book by Erin McCarthy but it certainly won’t be the last. I laughed a lot while reading this romantic comedy. It’s well written, fully fleshed and has some fabulous characters.
Grant is the epitome of a billionaire work-a-holic. His life is spent building his family’s already huge empire to even higher heights. But, at heart, he’s just a regular guy and it takes meeting Leah, a waitress and aspiring Broadway actress to make him see the light.
Leah is all sunshine and happiness. She’s also halfway in love with Grant and the two have barely spoken.
But, after a few chance events, they spend one scorching hot night together. That should have been it. Grant wasn’t looking for a relationship and told himself he was no good for Leah. She needed more from him than he was willing or able, in his mind at least- to give.
But, when he needs someone to pretend to be his fake girlfriend, he knows Leah would be perfect for the job.
It’s just a job, Leah, tells herself. But, if she can carry it off, maybe it’ll be the showstopper of her life.
If you’re looking for a light-hearted, fun read then look no further.
McCarthy is at her best when she’s at her most ironic. Weekend Wife is a tribute to her sassy sense of humor. Grant and Leah are irresistible, unpredictable, combustible, unstoppable chaos. Each knows where they want to be, but have a hard time getting to where they need to go. What ensues is an over thought, under executed plan that proves destined to be a disaster. Or will it end up changing their topsy-turvy lives for the better? The beauty of an Erin McCarthy story is her ability to find perfection in a less than ideal situation. That’s a quality that never gets old.
What a great RomCom. The author has given us readers a well written book with wonderful characters. The storyline is lighthearted, funny and kept me smiling and laughing throughout.
Grant is a sexy rich workaholic. He has spent most of his adult life building up the family’s real estate business, to an even more successful empire. But his kookie parents have decided it’s time he marries. But Grant doesn’t do relationships so in his mind marriage is out of the question. But if he wants to remain the head of the family’s business he must find a wife. So he asked the waitress at the diner, Leah, who is a struggling actress, to be his fake girlfriend for a weekend at his parents’ home. This is where the story takes off.
Between Leah and her no filter zany attitude and Grant’s crazy eccentric family, things go from semi nuts to insanity in a matter of minutes. Can these two pull off this crazy adventure and come out unscathed or will everything turn into a disaster of epic promotions?
This is a very funny heartwarming book that this reader Highly recommends grabbing up. 2 Thumbs Up and 5 Stars!
What a fun read! This was my first book by Erin McCarthy and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more by this author. I really enjoyed this rom-com. It had me laughing out loud and rooting for this couple from the very beginning! Grant and Leah had sizzling chemistry and I loved the playfulness they had with each other. They both weren’t looking for a relationship, but it was clear from the beginning that these two were meant for each other.
Weekend Wife was such a pleasure to read! I highly recommend it!
