Author continues to keep us entertained with her wonderful characters and intriguing stories. Nikki and Hawk are planning their wedding and it seems like fate needs to set up roadblocks to prevent the wedding.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nikki, owner of the chocolate shop in Maple Hills, is engaged to Hawk, a detective on the police force. Nikki is planning the special wedding cake for their wedding to surprise Hawk. With the help of her best friend/employee, Linda, and her son, Seth’s girlfriend, Tori, who also works at the chocolate shop, she has been experimenting with different flavors of cake and frosting.
Suddenly she receives a phone call from Seth, who is also on the police force, that she needs to meet Hawk, Seth and Chief Daily, Hawk’s father, at the fishing cabin.
When she arrives she sees Luke, a friend of Chief Daily’s who is also on the police force, lying on the ground dead from a gunshot wound to his chest. Nikki finds a note on Luke’s fishing vest that says “I am coming for the chief next.”
Linda has helped Hawk solve murders before and he would like her to help with this one.
Because of the threat to the Chief, Hawk places the Chief and Seth in Nikki’s house with police officers around the perimeter at all times. With Linda and Tori running the chocolate shop Nikki and Hawk go through all of the Chief’s files to see if they see anyone who might have killed Luke by mistake and is coming for the Chief. They find three files of interest — Jim French, a meth dealer; Rafael Rodriquez, a young man who killed his father; and Tom Stuart who was arrested for fraud.
As the wedding date approaches and the murder still unsolved, will Nikki and Hawk need to postpone the wedding. This is a great book with lots of twists and turns. The killer will surprise you and you won’t find out who it is until the end of the book. A must read!
I received an advance copy. This is my honest review.
