A Wedding at Lakeside Resort is book 4 in the Lakeside Resort series. It was so much fun to go back to the campground and catch up with the characters – Jenny and Luke, Claire and Landis and all of their friends including two dogs Buddy and Bear and Levi, the miniature horse who are all house pets. Jenny is an over-40 woman who inherited a half built campground from her father and decided to finish the cabins and try to run a successful campground. It’s a quiet place with very little interference from the outside world. People go there to relax, hike, swim and enjoy themselves. In this book, the main theme is about Jenny’s upcoming wedding to Luke. She has a bad history with men and is nervous about her wedding but knows that she loves Luke and wants to marry him. As she is working through her feelings about the wedding, she finds out that the 7 acres next to her campground may be sold and the main person who is interested wants to build a deluxe development which would totally ruin the serenity of her Lakeside Resort.
I highly recommend this series – it’s a fun series with well-written characters that you’ll come to love. It also has a main character over 40 which is something you don’t see often enough. The series is full of fun and adventure, problems and solutions, love and friendship and happily ever after endings for everyone. It’s a perfect series to read during the current confinement that we are all in – or anytime you want to read a book with characters that you’ll learn to love. I hope that there will be other books in this series — I’m not ready to say goodbye to Lakeside Resort and all of the wonderful characters that I’ve met there.
Escape these crazy times and fall in love once again at the Lakeside Resort.
Ms. Schild wrapped up the Lakeside Resort series with a wonderful ending to the trials and tribulations Jenny and Luke encounter throughout the series. They’re now planning their wedding, and even though they’re comfortable with their feelings for one another, pre-wedding jitters and a business partner tend to get in the way. And as they plan to expand the resort, progress may have something to say about what should be an easy enough transaction.
You can count on the author to deliver a story filled with heart in a rural setting, graced with a sprinkling of southern charm, and to lead you through the characters’ lives until you know them, love them, and root for them.
If you haven’t read the others in the series, I would recommend you do so you can meet “the boys” and fall in love with Jenny and Luke from the beginning. And Levi, the miniature horse will steal your heart.
I received an ARC of this title, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A resort owner is on her way to finding her happily ever after in Susan Schild’s novel “Wedding at the Lakeside Resort” the 4th book in her Lakeside Resort series.
Beautiful scenery surrounds the cabins and vintage trailers that make up the resort around Heron Lake. Soon wedding bells will be ringing for the forty four year old woman who lovingly runs the scenic getaway. Troubling her is the frequent far off business trips her fiancé has to make to help rescue his inept friend. And who is tearing around in a ‘monster truck’ damaging the unused property next door to her peaceful section of Heron Lake? Anxiety mounts when rumors fly about the property and the wedding day gets closer! How much can one woman deal with?
This incredibly enjoyable book had me delighting in each page I read! My imagination, with the aide of the remarkable writing Schild fills her book with, had me walking the resort trails and cheering for the lovable characters. Spending time with this book is like treating yourself to a mini vacation!
So, stretch out in a sunny spot and delve into this enchanting tale!
I loved the setting of the story, being lakeside, and also liked the characters in the book. You could just see the beauty in the characters. Truly a book to bring you back to reality. Enjoyed it very much.

I’ve loved getting to know all of Susan Schild’s characters in her Lakeside Resort Series. Jenny has had a lot of hurtles to jump over in her life, but things are finally turning around for her. She has the support of a wonderful group of friends & family that she can count on. Her inherited Lakeside Resort is finally coming together , she met a wonderful contractor, they eventually fell in love & now are going to get married at her Resort with their family & friends surrounding them. If you enjoy reading stories with slightly more mature heroines, then this series is for you!
Each installment is like visiting old friends. I love the animals. A fun read to take you away from the worries of the world.
There is nothing as satisfying as sitting down with another installment of The Lakeside Resort series. I was so excited to receive Susan Schild’s new book Wedding at the Lakeside Resort. I felt like I was going to have a nice long visit with my old friends.
Susan’s character development is spot on because I feel like I know Jenny and Luke, her friend Charlotte and her mom and Step-dad. They are all such loving and caring folks. Her smooth style allows you to flow through the story and enjoy all that is happening.
This book is a continuation of Jenny’s life leading up to her wedding day. We share in all the preparations and planning for the big day. I am so excited for Jenny and Luke to be off on their long honeymoon pulling their restored airstream camper. I can only imagine what adventures are waiting for them.
Susan Schild has done it again, If you have read any of the Lakeside Resort series, you will want to read this one too! Wedding at the Lakeside Resort will read well as a stand alone book, so go ahead and jump right in and catch the rest of the series later.
I received this book from the author for a fair and honest review.

Wedding at the Lakeside Resort is a heartwarming, small town romance. The characters are delightful, the story is lovely, and the setting is beautiful! Jenny and Luke are just months away from their wedding, with pre-wedding jitters and work obstacles that they need to overcome before the big day! Their relationship is genuine and sweet, and I was completely captivated by strong-and-silent guy Luke!
This is the 4th book in The Lakeside Resort Series but it can easily be read as a standalone. I have not read the first three books but I had no problem diving in and losing myself at the Lakeside Resort. I would love to visit this place. It sounds like it’s right up my alley. A beautiful lake, small rustic cabins to spend a peaceful weekend getaway, and a charming little town.
This is a sweet love story with characters you can’t help but fall in love with. By the end of the story, I wanted to take a drive to Lakeside and spend a week there writing my own stories. It sounds like the perfect setting. I was pulled into the story straight away and felt like I could spend hours hanging out with Jenny. She’s my age, has my sense of humor, and she is not afraid to hold down the fort at the resort while Luke is away on a business trip. I think we could become best friends.
The story is well written with a beautiful setting and a perfect escape from these crazy times we are currently living in. I plan of reading the other books in the series and looking forward to the next book in the series. Thank you Susan for the enjoyable read.
I absolutely loved this book. I love the characters! It is a fun romantic love story. Very good!
I absolutely love this series. A strong woman starting over in her 40s, the beautiful resort she runs with cabins in the mountains, the dogs and miniature horse and so much more are all such a delight. Really good characters who you will grow to love and see their lives expanding. This book had many chuckles in it, my favorite bring the “retirement wear” stand-off. So glad to have found this author and this series.
Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “Wedding at the Lakeside Resort” by Susan Schild, June 2020
Susan Schild, the author of “Wedding at the Lakeside Resort, has written a delightful, heartwarming, and happily ever after story. The genres for this story are Romantic fiction, Women’s Fiction, and Fiction. The story takes place in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events. The characters seem realistic and likable. Of course, there are some wonderful animals as well.
Jenny is a 44-year-old bride to be. Things are getting really busy at The Lakeside Resort, and one of the biggest concerns is what will happen to a neighboring property that is rumored to be for sale. Luke is constantly away on business, and Jenny does miss his presence.
There are several other books in this series, and of course, this is an exciting book to read, where an older heroine meets the love of her life and is ready to get married. This can be read alone. I enjoyed and recommend this book to readers who want a ” Happily Ever After” story. Happy Reading.
Summary: A year and a half after inheriting lakeside resort property from her father, Jenny Beckett is starting to breathe more easily. Her advertising and posted social media reviews are bringing in some steady guests and income.
However, her fiance, Luke, is still stuck digging his former business partner out of messes. When Zander calls with another crisis, Luke feels obligated to go on a business rescue trip. With a new house to build and a wedding that’s only five months away, Jenny is overwhelmed by the details and getting pre-wedding jitters. Even though Luke is a wonderful man, Jenny wonders if he can really be there for her.
Comments: I absolutely adore this charming series set in North Carolina. The over-forty-something characters deal with life’s challenges with maturity and grace. By book number four, the Lakeside Resort feels so real to me that I imagine what it would be like to stay there for a few days with my husband! Since we’re fairly homebound during COVID-19, it was wonderful to have an imaginary getaway.
I really get a kick out of the author’s music references in the novel. She and I must have the same taste.
I hope Susan Schild is hard at work on Lakeside Resort #5. I need to get more details on Jenny and Luke’s quirky campground honeymoon trip! When my husband and I got married, we Bed & Breakfast hopped through several southern cities and found a few quirky places ourselves, including the World’s Largest Frying Pan in Rose Hill, NC. Maybe Luke and Jenny will see that, too!
Highly recommended for readers of light fiction, light romance and happy stories!
I love this series and the writer has a gift for telling a story. It was fun getting to know all the characters and watch the romance between Luke and Jenny blossom into marriage. The author takes you through the ups and downs of love and life after 40. She creates independent female characters that don’t need a man to survive but shows life is so much better if you have the perfect partner.
Love the series!
Susan Schild has done it again. I would love to take a trip to the Lakeside Resort and enjoy the beauty of the lake and all it has to offer. I have been anxiously waiting for this book to come out and it was wonderful. Susan’s style of writing makes you feel like you are right there with Jenny and her vivid descriptions of every detail makes the story come to life. I do hope Book 5 will be out soon. I can’t wait to hear about the honeymoon and the new adventures that await Jenny and Luke.
Loved this book – it’s a sweet story that left me smiling.
This was a wonderful, well written story with friendly, likeable characters. Definitely recommend.
Wedding at Lakeside Resort ticks all the boxes. This fourth in the Lakeside series is what I and all my retired educator reading buddies agree on is what it takes to make the perfect “bite”. We don’t want anything to bring us down…we are now too old and have too much insurance.. I’m not going to give any of the plot away but to say that yet again Susan ticks all the right boxes .. the food box with great descriptions, great character development with men who are real, true friendships and a bit of advocacy.
Susan I applaud you for addressing a moral and advocacy in each of your books in this series … from body shaming ,to fertility issues {AI, (IVF, adoption) , to retirement adjustments, to autism and especially in every book KINDNESS.
I loved the fact that the wedding was affordable, and the honeymoon realistic to the personalities of the characters.
I can’t wait to find my own Shasta and I hope mine is “robins egg blue” like Jenny’s wood stove.
I also can’t wait for the next book in this series..In my mind it’s called ‘Babies At the Lakeside Resort…’
Ya’ll enjoy this one now you hear…
