Can they find happiness with so much going against them?
more
Paul Saint loves his job as a firefighter for Station #20 though his family would be happier if he was closer to home instead of fighting grassland fires.
He jumps at the chance to move to a small cabin on Red Mountain Ranch and looks forward horseback riding around the countryside. There seems to be an abundance of single women in the area, but Paul’s attention is caught by the lovely school teacher, Emily Porter. Now, he just has to convince her that he’s the man for her!
This is an endearing story of two people who must overcome personal issues in order to give their love the chance it deserves.
Great
Paul finally got the fire station he wanted, and was able to rent a cabin that was once owned by the fire department. It came with 2 horses and a mule. Emily is a kindergarten teacher and just starting her summer break when she heard about the job clearing areas to help people not touch there homes. That’s when they met and it clicked.
***** A Wonderful Romance
The opening sentence of this book says it all: “Fallbrook is an old cowboy town with multiple personalities.” No kidding! Paul Saint, a newly arrived firefighter and handsome as all get out, receives a whole host of female attention as soon as he settles in. The unwanted kind. He instantly pulls back, simply wanting to concentrate on his job. Split from his beautiful, anorexic, and self-absorbed model ex-girlfriend, he’s in no hurry to hook up with someone new.
Emily Porter is a kindergarten teacher. She’s beautiful, but not model-like at all. She’s a voluptuous, zoftig woman. A strong woman in most ways, except when it comes to criticism from her own mother regarding her weight. Meanwhile, Emily has taken the summer off, but needing to make a little extra money, she has signed up to help clear brush around the county through the local fire department, led by Paul Saint.
Bingo. As soon as the two of them meet, there’s a spark of mutual attraction. Their conversational rapport and physical yearnings abound big time. And the best part for Emily? The fact that Paul loves her curvaceous, meat-on-her-bones figure makes it all seem like their relationship is a dream come true.
But will they be able to ignore and survive all the derisive comments about her weight, both from Emily’s mother, some of Paul’s relatives, and a few of the men at the fire station?
What I love about this author is her realistic portrayal of the complexities of human nature, no matter the plot or genre. So here, besides authentic descriptions of what firefighters go through and a very touching romance, Jenkin’s message about listening to one’s own likes, desires, and self-worth makes this an extremely appealing story. Highly recommended!
She grew up hearing that she was fat. He thought she was perfect. Fires, family divorce, snide remarks, just a few problems they had to work through. Very good story
