“This world within a world is such a fabulous concept! It’s almost like Star Trek, Doctor Who, and the Bible all mashed up together with a steampunk twist.”A strange coin. A mysterious elevator. And a war deep within the Earth that could destroy the world.Adal and Arija weren’t concerned with what makes the world go round until they followed an old coin into a dark cave. Deep within the Earth is … coin into a dark cave. Deep within the Earth is a world they never dreamed possible. A world that will challenge their most important beliefs. A world that will soon be torn apart by war.
Webley controls the center of Earth, but not all his creations are happy.
When the hidden plot to overthrow him turns violent, Adal and Arija are forced to choose sides. But the dangers are more than they could have predicted. Will their hidden feelings for each other help them through it, or rip them and the world apart?
If you like Cassandra Clare, Quantum Leap, and Lindsay Buroker, you’ll love this hilarious portal adventure full of snark, sass, and one curious little robot boy.
“Get yourself some caffeine because if you pick up this book, you’re not gonna wanna put it down.”
“As I settled in for a nice traditional old century Steampunk story, I was quickly thwarted when I discovered that Webley is not traditional, but… it is fantastic”
“I love YA/steampunk/fantasy but this takes you into a wild wonderful new way of looking at this genre.”

Now that was a fun read. I love the creativeness of the read and how it mixes history with imagination. This is most definitely a book I will enjoy reading with my grand-daughter. There are wonderful characters with fun and excitement and yes there is action. There is a host of characters that are discovered in this steampunk read (and yes this is my first of this type I think) each one unique. Kip is a character all on his own and leads their next adventure (I think I would have to put a harness on this kid). Adal and Arija find themselves knee deep in adventure just from saving a coin. That’s not the only thing going on with them but as they battle their way thru the Creator’s world they also find themselves and each other.
I loved this book and had so much fun with everything that was going on. I really enjoyed this take on creation from this new to me author. I love the intricacies and interactions, the characters!! Oh yeah this is a great read and I will most definitely be reading more from this new on the scene author.
This world within a world is such a fabulous concept! It’s almost like Star Trek, Doctor Who, and the Bible all mashed up together with a steampunk twist. Don’t worry if your imagination isn’t up to par, there are plenty of incredible illustrations included, but not so many as to make it seem like a children’s book.
Each of the characters have such fun and entertaining personalities, which makes for pages and pages of hilarious banter. Adal can’t keep quiet if his life depends on it, Arija always bests the boys, Webley is so mysterious, Cog is so alive, Kip peeves me, Fausto is full of lost potential, and Creepy Daddy Longlegs is my favorite.
So stop reading reviews and just read the book already; it’s a good one!
Wow, this was my first steampunk book and I was enjoyably surprised. I’ve never had much interest in the genre but was drawn to it’s cover and given personal recommendations, and after giving it a try, I loved it! The author’s writing has such incredible depth and detail in both his writing style and character development. He brings the story to life in rich detail so that you become a part of Adal and Arija’s adventure. I loved the relationships between his characters and the complicated and even philosophical hardships they faced. The mechanics we’re incredibly imaginative too. The story will leave you with questions (intentional, I’m sure), but I’m excited to say I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next book!
DUDE! So AWESOME!
They need to make this into a movie. I really enjoyed this.
I was familiar with steampunk before this book, but this way first steampunk novel and wow! It was absolutely spectacular.
The story is told in third person so we get to ‘hear’ a lot from both main characters Adel and Arija. The two have been best friends for a long time and there’s lots of playful banter on the page. You’ll quickly start rooting for these two to make their friendship something more.
The world Mr Chopchinski build is vast and well through out, right down to its origins. There is a reason for the steampunk, instead of it merely being an alternate reality.
The side characters are well fleshed out, though they all still carry some mystery about them.
Get yourself some caffeine because if you pick up this book you’re not gonna wanna put it down. Find out why the world goes ‘round and breath a finally towards the end, I can’t wait for the next book!
Steampunk… Not really an interest of mine. I have read a few books in the genre and wasn’t overly impressed. I am a huge YA fan and the blurb sounded interesting so I gave this book a shot.
The prologue threw me off a bit. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, but I kept reading and I am so glad I did.
This world Mr. Chopchinski created was so unique, so perfectly detailed that I could envision everything the characters were seeing. Then add in the occasional perfectly drawn pictures and it brought the world and characters to life.
The characters.. Amazing depth, you really feel their emotions, their struggles, turmoil and loyalty.
The conflict was unique, the story overall was fast paced and perfectly told. The ending wrapped up the story but gave us an inkling of what is coming next.
I can not wait for more in this series.
Welcome to the Wonderful World of “Webley and the World Machine! A world within our world and A gateway to more. A world of metal, gears, nuts, bolts and a spark.
Not just machines.
You’ll find A unique and intriguing storyline with a fascinating cast of characters and fabulous world building. Vividly detailed and awe-inspiring. Told with such ease, I couldn’t help but be enthralled.
Lots of action keeps this story moving at a fast pace with something new to see around every turn.
I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to see where Adal and Arajas’ adventure will find them next.
This was such a cool concept for a story! I loved the idea of a whole new, strange world right under us. And this world was particularly awesome!
Sometimes I feel like things could have been explained a little better. There were a couple times when I didn’t quite understand how something happened. But for the lost part that wasn’t a problem.
And I really enjoyed the characters! Everyone was so unique and developed. I especially loved Kip. He was so spunky and delightful!
Overall, despite some minor issues I had, this was such a fun read. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
I was given a copy of this book as part of the release party put on by the author. Thanks so much for the chance to read it!
Steampunk literature is a difficult thing to pull off, but Webley and the World Machine does just that. Mr. Chopchinski has created a universe so vivid and alive I found myself never wanting to leave. The way he describes each character is breathtaking. Webley and his creations are unique, complex, and compelling in a way that was not only beautiful but intellectually stimulating.
Arija and Adal are sent on the adventure of a lifetime when they fall down a preverbal rabbit hole and find themselves in the world machine. I have to say, the chemistry between these two characters is off the charts incredible. I was so emotionally invested with what happened to them that I audibly gasped when Arija’s sketchbook landed in the water, destroying her beautiful artwork.
As their journey brings them deeper, exploring Webley’s creations, we learn there is a darker side to the world machine. This was part of the book I found absolutely terrifying. The danger was real. The action was well thought out and written flawlessly.
Please, do yourself a favor and read this book. I promise you won’t be sorry.
When the byline of ‘Webley and the World Machine’ promises “a steampunk adventure full of sass and snark” it is a very good indication of what the reader will experience in this book. The adventures of Adal and Arija make for a highly original and entertaining read.
Adal and Arija are typical teens, each with passions and interests that motivate them, both unfailingly loyal and committed to one another as best friends. The story takes them on a journey that challenges their resilience and their individual understandings of life as they have always known it and, at the same time, strengthens and transforms their friendship. They are people that young adult readers will relate to in many ways, including their experiences of life and of other people who are not so easy to get along with, the priorities they hold, and the way they speak and interact with one another.
The intricate and multi-textured world building in this novel is testament to the immense imagination and creativity of the author and adds a lot of interesting sensory detail to the story. The settings, characters and creatures are brought to life vividly, and the story is very well paced.
In short, there is absolutely nothing that is boring or mundane about this book.
This started out slow. It has action, suspense, drama, which is why I gave it three stars. I didn’t really care for the story myself, but I haven’t found a steampunk themed story yet that I have really gotten into. I liked the sarcastic teens though.
