A new Southern Roots standalone…Magnolia Ellington is all too aware that dangerous things can come in shiny packages. Her husband made sure to teach her that. Desperate to escape his wrath–and his fists–she flees in the dark of night. Seeking safety and shelter with the only family she has left, Magnolia finds herself in the sleepy, Southern town of Dogwood–and in the arms of Simon … Dogwood–and in the arms of Simon McAllister.
Simon has always been more of a thinker than a doer. That changes the minute he meets shy and mysterious Magnolia. She has him rushing into action, ready and willing to do whatever it takes to earn her trust.
Slowly, with his steadfast determination and kind heart, Simon brings Magnolia out of her shell. But just as things start heating up between the two of them, the darkness of Magnolia’s past resurfaces, threatening to rip apart everything they’ve worked so hard for.
With their future hanging in the balance, Simon fears he’s losing Magnolia. Now, he must convince her that, together, they can weather the storm.
Please note: This title can be read as a complete STANDALONE.

Simon is such a sexy souther gentleman and poor Magnolia has been thro go so much. The feels that are evoked throughout this book are amazing. And the hurt I want to inflict on Grant. Whooooweee! This series as a whole is awesome!
I have to say I think this has to be my favorite book this far… I absolutely love how such a tough guy is turned into this giant teddy bear!! I like the protective side of Simon finally coming to a point where he doesn’t just appears tough without really any feeling other than towards friends.. I can not wait for the next book to come out!!
This was an excellent read. There was one person I wanted to throat punch but I’m glad he got what he deserved in the end.
Five healing stars! This book made my heart ache. Each word was a bittersweet symphony.
Oh. My. Stars! Weather the Storm by LK Farlow is a roll coaster of emotions. I’m drained and literally with a big knot in my throat! This book had too much to offer. It is thoughtfully written.
I shall confess that this is the first time I read a book of her and let me tell you something. It would’ve been nice if someone would’ve warned me that I was going to need a box of tissues because between the pages of this book is a heartbreaking story that made my heart ache.
The plot is original and the characters are complex and singular. The heroine has a broken soul. The hero is a fixer. Simon is just the right man to fix broken Magnolia. She endured a life of violence no woman deserves. She allowed a man who she loved to hurt her in the worst ways possible. Let me tell you something: A man who hit a woman deserves to be castrated. Simple as that!
Simon captured my heart. He saved Magnolia. He protected her as if he always meant to do it. He and Magnolia are good for eachother. No one and nothing can separate them. Not even devil itself.
The pace is fast and the story line is brilliantly developed. This book is an emotional masterpiece wrapped in a stunning cover. Each page was a torture for my soul. Each word was a bittersweet symphony. Each chapter made me crave a HEA!
LK Farlow gifted us a strong hero and a broken heroine. She pictured perfectly the fear and anxiety a hurt woman lives after leaving her own hell. Magnolia was weak. Simon showed her kindness and love. He put her broken pieces back together. His soul complete hers.
I strongly recommend you this book. It is an intense journey of redemption, second chances, healing, trust, hope and love.
3 Practicable Stars
Weather The Storm is the third book in the Southern Roots series by LK Farlow. Magnolia is afraid of her past and afraid she will never escape it. She finds her hard to trust anyone especially men and can barely speak without stuttering. She just wants to be invisible but that plan fails when Simon enters her life.
Simon is a great guy and all his friends can rely on him and he is always for them in their time of need. Magnolia needs someone on her side and although he takes its slow he makes it clear he wants more.
This book felt very rushed to me and I knew what was going to happen before I read it and normally if this happens I just get on with it but this kind of bored me towards the end.
Although this is part of a series it can be read as a standalone book.
Gah! So I really liked the story line, it was sweet and emotional with lots of twists and turns. But…if you know me, I don’t like cheating. This would have been my favorite book of the series if it had played out a little differently. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it and thought it was definitely worth the read!
Magnolia was on the run. Her plan was to be invisible, but that was impossible once she met Simon. He seemed to be there every time she needed a friend but would he be too good to be true when he learned her secrets?
Simon knew Magnolia had been hurt, but not to what extent. He took his time to get to know her and earn her trust. Just as he was able to get her to open up, her past came back to claim her. Would Simon be able to keep her safe or would trouble find her first?
Those two were so great together! I am so happy Magnolia found her “one” and had so many people in her corner. The entire series was the perfect example of sexy southern gentlemen!
I loved Simon. He was a superhero for Magnolia. He was patient and so understanding with Magnolia’s timidness, even before he knew her secrets. It was a sweet story with a sad backstory, but it had a great message and a great love affair. I have to go back and read the rest of the series now!
Magnolia is running from her abusive ex. She is just looking for a place to lay low and hide where he can’t find her. Working at Southern Roots with her cousin Seraphine and new friends Azalea and Myla.
Simon has watched his best friends fall in love and find their forever. He doesn’t need love. He’s doing fine just going through his life. Until Magnolia. She knocks him for a loop. He knows she’s running and he has this overwhelming need to protect her.
Come along as Simon learns to love and Magnolia learns what it feels like to be truly loved and treasured.
And then we have Simon and Magnolia. She’s running from something and Simon is determined to make her stop running and trust him to stand with her. They both have painful pasts, but Simon is strong enough to stand by Magnolia’s side when hers tries to invade her present. And when it all comes to a head, he and the rest of Magnolia’s family-by-choice are quick to figure out how to save her AND support her as she faces her fears one last time. I adored their story so much.
Now that’s what I’m talking about. This makes the entire series worth it. We see all of the good of this group and their big hearts coupled with their need to protect. While they all claim to be southern gentlemen Simon seems to be the only one who has shown that in every aspect of the relationship, from friend to more. Mags has secrets. She’s too embarrassed for the truth to come out. She ran. Scared, broken and determined, she got the hell out of dodge and straight to the safety of these friends and family. I loved it. This story has all of the elements that have made me enjoy this author. Domestic violence is nothing to cheer about and it always is emotional especially the details. We get a feel for her tears, her shame and the destruction of her self confidence. Simon is gentle and patient and all she needs with this gang and her new found freedom to begin that process. Some action and a little intrigue round it out with all the emotions.
Goldilocks found the one who is just right
I devoured this in a few hours. Magnolia is a bit bruised & battered from her ex. She’s trying to be stronger. Simon is smitten. And he’s her white knight. He tries to give her the love & support she needs. She is realizing he is nothing like her ex. There are the friends we meet in the prior books. A sweet, passionate love story where good conquers evil.
They Fit Just Right
This is an emotional story of fighting back and reclaiming your life.
Magnolia ran from the hell that was her life and has started over. A new job, new friends and a new her.
Her past is still haunting her. It’s hard to trust people and believe that you are worthy; years of mental and physical abuse will do that. However, Magnolia is so much stronger than she ever realized.
Simon is just the man to show her just how worthy she is. Mutual friendships bring them together. Attraction draws them closer. Soon he’ll become what she always needed and deserved.
This is their story of acknowledging the past and fighting for their future. Simon was the perfect man to stand by her side and fight with her. Their love for one another was beautiful. And the family they created with friends was exactly what she always needed.
4 1/2 out of 5 stars
This was the first book for me in this series and I can’t wait to go back and read the others. I know that Simon was an amazing book boyfriend, but I have a feeling Drake and Cash will be pretty amazing, too. Despite it being the third book in the series, I never felt lost or like I was missing anything not having more background. The crossover characters were there, but they weren’t distracting from the story of Simon and Magnolia.
This book took me on an emotional roller coaster. From the very beginning, poor Magnolia has my heart in shreds. She’s obviously fighting herself and comes from a bad place. Siimon was the perfect “beast” from the beginning. He fights for what he sees as right and loves fiercely…before he even calls it love.
I loved that he was so protective and gave his whole heart to Magnolia without thought or concern about what it might mean to him. This book was well written and really made me think about those who come out of abusive relationships.
**** I voluntarily read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ****
4.5 Stars
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.. Kate’s books just keep getting better!
This is her best book yet and I cannot wait to get more from her!
I fell in love with “big brother” Simon in Coming Up Roses, loved him in An Uphill Battle, and have now fallen in love with him as the hero.
I didn’t want this to end! I was dragging my feet all day because I wanted to stay with Magnolia and Simon more; but I also wanted to find out what was going to happen
Simon and Magnolia are very cute together. An emotional journey that had me from the first page. Great characters and a good storyline. I did read this book first and even though it is a standalone, the characters intersect from the other books and the other stories would be good to read first.
LK Farlow has once again captivated my heart with her latest book in the Southern Roots series! Her sweet and lovable romance has just the perfect amount of angst that will have any book lover swooning in anticipation! Let’s just say that her book keep getting better and better every time and are all some of my favorite books to date.
I am so sad that this is the final standalone in the Southern Root series because I have become seriously invested in these amazing one of a kind characters and I am just not ready to let them go yet…
Weather the Storm is Magnolia and Simon’s story and I have to admit that they might just be my favorite couple yet (although of course I LOVE them all for different reasons)! Magnolia is a shy and timid soul that protects her heart, but throughout this story we see her begin to blossom and open up a little more. Now Simon…I’ve had a crush on his character since the very beginning and I couldn’t think of anyone more perfect for Mags. His actions will have your heart swooning in overdrive with his southern charm. He is certainly a modern day gentleman that knows how to treat a women right.
This story was a beautifully written southern tale that captivated me wholeheartedly from beginning to end! LK Farlow has certainly delivered in this final Southern Roots story and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
This is the first book that I have read by LK Farlow. (I know it’s not the first in the series, went a little out of order.) I absolutely loved this book! Simon and Magnolia’s story was wonderful. Simon was an amazing man and Magnolia was so sweet. I’m glad she was able to get out of her DV relationship. But in all, this was a sweet romance and I think everyone should read this!
I could not put this book down, I have been wanting to know all about Magnolia since she was first introduced in the very first Southern Roots, she has always had her guard up and was like a skittish kitten . This author delivered, this is her third book and I think my favorite the writing and stories keep getting better and aww man the feels. I felt so hard for Magnolia when she finally opened up about her horrible abuse is endured by her husband. He is the absolute was scum on the earth and he wants his wife back and had the money to do it. Just when Magnolia starts to live again instead of cower she gets knocked back by her estranged husband.
Simon I just knew he was going knock my boots off, he is a true southern man and did everything just right. He waited and waited and was so patient and understanding and just being Mags saviour. The relationship is inevitable and I loved watching them grow together, they complement each other so well. I also am so glad that the other couples(from the previous books) are all so close( more like family) and are a major part in the story and lean and relay on one another. Their was a tough scene when Mags has to see her husband again it was devastating, but Goldilocks doesn’t give up and Simon shows how he really is her Savior.
I am so ready for wherever this author takes me next.
LK Farlow has done it again. Another great read. Magnolia and Simon find each other. Magnolia’s past ketches up to her. These two weather the storm the best they can. Thank you for another great read ~~!!!!!
Lk just upped her game, ladies. The queen of sweet, southern romance explored a darker side of love and completely blew me away. There were moments I literally felt my heart race with panic.
