The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death.~Oscar Wilde~Adoration is not profound enough a word to express the depth of my love for her. From the moment she walked into my life and set my heart and soul on fire, not a day’s gone by that she hasn’t plagued my every thought. We were each other’s completion. She was everything I wasn’t–the sigh to my roar, the virtue to my sin, the … the virtue to my sin, the cure to my wounds.
We Were One.
Until the unthinkable happened.
That I’ve survived such a tragedy without having completely lost it, is a mystery in itself. But as my mind starts to blur the lines between reality and my delusional heart, I begin to question everything, including my sanity.
And then the real mystery begins . . .
Author’s note: We Were One is an alternate POV to Girl In The Mirror but both books can be read as stand alones without the need to read the other to follow along!

This book is told from the male POV which made it more interesting to me. I did learn that this book is the alternate to the female POV of Girl in the Mirror (which I have not yet read), but both can be read as standalones.
This was my first book by Ms. Reyes and her words crushed me. It was like I handed my heart to Ms. Reyes, she broke it into a million pieces, and then page after page put it all back together again!
This book is an absolutely beautiful love story between Nico Cortez (the bad boy) and Maddie Hellman (the good girl). These two are characters are soul mates and the love they have for each other, as well as for their families, just gave me all the feels! Tissues at the ready are a must for this read!
We Were One by Elizabeth Reyes
Looking Glass Series Book Two
This is Nicolas “Nico” Cortez’s point of view from the previous book, The Girl in the Mirror, which was all in Madeline “Maddie” Hellman’s point of view. It’s a completely different story as the reader sees so much more than the previous book through Nico’s view. His strong emotions. His devastation. His love.
This strong man is brought to his knees and even lower when he loses his heart. The one and only girl for him. Elizabeth Reyes has written such a powerful story. Emotional and unique. I strongly suggest reading the first book before this one to get the full impact.

Favorite Quotes:
I had enough female company to keep me busy to put any more thought into the off-limits twin and her shotgun-toting mother.
If she wanted to listen to an asshole, she would’ve farted.
The times between seeing or hearing from her felt almost intolerable. Whipped didn’t even begin to cover how I was feeling.
My Review:
This book was seventy percent heartbreak and an angst-fest, yet I couldn’t seem to leave it alone and kept picking my Kindle back up while groaning at myself for being so weak. I missed the humor and taut suspense from the first book and angst is just not my friend, but an intriguing story definitely is and I just couldn’t quit it. Elizabeth Reyes must have studied up on some of those magical dark arts, as despite all that floundering in Nico’s morose misery, I had to know how the missing pieces would come together for the conclusion. Retreading several of the same scenes from the first book in the series but now from Nico’s POV helped me recall important details that I had since forgotten and further plucked at my curiosity. Nico and Maddie’s actual time together had been relatively short before her fatal accident, but their relationship had been passionate, all-consuming, and soul deep. So much so that Nico’s despair felt like an added character. I enjoyed the ending and with a sigh of relief was glad I stayed the course but now find I am already bedeviled by the intriguing glimpse of the next installment featuring Nico’s brother. Sigh…
Nico knew about the twins for a while, his brother was interested in Maggie and Nico never took any interest as they were too young. When the twins started to grow up he noticed and new that the attraction he had for Madeline for more than physical.
Nico although realising he has found the love of his life knows that she’s too young. The continue to watch each other intently. It, isn’t until his father let him know that although Madeline is a minor, the age of consent was 16, although it was there Nico still felt that Madeline was too young at sixteen.
When Madeline finally turns eighteen, the whole time that Nico was worried about how her mother would react to their relationship, didn’t turn out as bad as he though. The two are happy and in love until tragedy strikes. There are some amazing twists and turns while Nico learns to live again and finally gets his happily ever after. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, I enjoyed reading both as it gave the different perspectives on how the ending came about.
