From International Bestseller Michelle Heard comes the final book in the Southern Heroes Series.I don’t play games. If I see something I want, I go for it.After my late wife passed away, I haven’t been attracted to another woman. That’s until I come face to face with Chloe Jordaan with her sassy mouth and larger than life personality. She’s the complete opposite of me.I’m not afraid to commit, … complete opposite of me.
I’m not afraid to commit, where Chloe’s the epitome of ‘Bad Girl.’ I’m rational and serious, where Chloe’s carefree and fun.
She keeps reminding me we’re only friends with benefits, but I can’t stop myself from wanting to make her mine.
She’s everything I shouldn’t want but turns out to be exactly what I need.
Will the South African Bad Girl ever fall for the American Alpha Hero?

I was kind of dreading reading this book as I knew it was the last in this series and I didn’t want to say goodbye to characters and story lines that I had become so invested in.
When I finally bit the bullet I wasn’t sure what to expect, but like usual Michelle keeps readers on their seats until the very end.
Definitely a must read series that shouldn’t be missed by Romantic Suspense lovers.
The final book in the Southern Heroes Series was SO GOOD! I was so sad this series was coming to an end, but Zac and Chloe’s story was beautiful. It was everything I was hoping for in a finale…
After the loss of his wife Zac hasn’t even looked at a woman. Years have gone by and nothing has changed. That is until he comes face to face with Chloe…
She’s bold, she’s beautiful and everything he shouldn’t want..
Yet all he wants is to make her his…
Will Chloe be the one to make his heart beat again?
What a way to end an amazing series about some fantastic men and the women who change their worlds! Last man standing in this group of men is Zac, family by what started with marriage but goes so much deeper than that. Zac swears he had found his one time only, to have her taken from him and he was content to live life that way, until Chloe rocked his world. Chloe is running from her past and losses when she shows up to visit her best friend Emma, and then she meets Zac. Chloe is able to pull Zac into fun and he is able to ground her in ways she never saw coming, but they work. Chloe understands Zac will never forget his past and she embraces the whole man he is.
Michelle finished this series beautifully. Zac needed his own HEA and Chloe was the perfect person to provide him that. They both had demons and past grief that tormented them in different ways. However, when it all came down to it, Love was the only thing that mattered. Love highlighted each relationship in this series and allowed each couple to find their own identity and and their future partners. Written beautifully!

Finally!! The moment we’ve all been waiting for but also dreading which is the end of this awesome series is the story of Zac. We’ve all seen Zac on this journey as the best friend to Aiden and Wyatt and husband to Laurie. We’ve felt his loss and had him win our hearts with his southern gentleman ways. He finally got his chance to shine and boy did he.
Zac has felt the loss for 5 years. He just existed and convinced himself this was for the best. Can’t have your heart broken again if you don’t fall for someone else right? He is so immersed in a case that he doesn’t have time for it anyway IF anyone sparked his interest. When Emma tasks him with picking up her best friend Chloe from the airport he meets his match. She is the total opposite of anything Zac would be with, but she gives him hope. Slowly but surhely she chips at his walls with her crazy antics and unfiltered mouth. Maybe just maybe he has some room in his heart to love again.
Chloe has decided to leave her native country of South Africa behind. She has suffered a great loss and her father has turned his back on her. She blames him anyway for her mothers well being and doesn’t want to stick around anymore. She finds herself on foreign soil in American to visit Emma and Aiden. At the airport she locks eyes on Zac and can’t help but mess with him. When he starts to see her for who she really is she tries so hard to push him away. She has crazy thoughts that she might turn out like her father and she doesn’t want to end up like her mother.
I really liked Zac and Chloe. They are an unlikely pair. I like that we get to see the journey of Zac opening his heart again and Chloe learning that she has the power to be her ownself that you aren’t your parents. I will admit at times this book did seem a little rushed and I wish we could have had more time with Zac and Chloe but their story is complete and I think the way it worked out it suits them. This book has a little bit of everything love, drama and some quasi sexy moments. I would like to thank Michelle Heard for giving us these sexy southern heroes.
A very enjoyable conclusion to the Southern Heroes Series. children are very impressionable and are moulded the relationships around them.
When Chloe Lost her mum she vowed to never let a man mistreat her heart. She packs up and decides to embark on a journey, beginning with visiting her best friend Emma. It’s not long before she is talked into staying and taking a job. How does one cope when they are trying to protect themselves, they push people away and embrace all the wrong people.
Zac has suffered heartbreak when his wife Laurie died. He has placed all of his focus on wanting to bring down Pastor Doug. Unfortunately finding evidence to link the Pastor to the meth lab hasn’t been easy. Zac loved his wife and he has never looked at another woman, but Chloe tests his resolve. He struggled with the revelation that maybe she is more than a friend.
Final book in The Southern Heroes series and we finally get Chloe Jordan’s story. At long last Chloe leaves South Africa and gets to be with her best friend in America, and she couldn’t have timed it better, because Emma’s having a baby. Yay! We also get more insight into Aiden’s partner and brother Zac Hutches, who lives only for work and his friends and family, and nothing else, until Chloe. Chloe changes everything. I loved how the whole series comes together in this final book. Romance, passion and intrigue. I adored Zac, a real Southern hero with real heart. Even though this book is part of a series, it can be read alone, although, as you can imagine, it is best enjoyed having read the previous books. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.
Zac and Chloe’s story…3.5 stars
We Were Lost is the fifth book in the Southern Heroes series. It can be read as a standalone, and as it is the first book I have read in the series, it was was not hard to quickly acquaint myself about the previous characters featured from earlier books in the series. Though there is a curiosity in regards to certain facts I missed about prior connections to those characters, I did not feel it took away from Zac and Chloe’s story.
Zac Hutches and Chloe Jordaan meet for the first time at the airport. Chloe leaves her life in South Africa to visit her best friend, Emma and her husband in the U.S. As a favor to Emma and Adrien, Zac agrees to pick her up at the airport. From the beginning, there is an attraction between Emma and Zac, but each is still facing their own personal demons and a relationship is the last thing these two have in mind.
Zac is still in mourning for the loss of his wife from a tragedy four years ago, and Zoe is crushed over the loss of her mother and how her father treated his wife towards the end of their marriage. The whole story is pretty much on how they dance around their attraction with each other and it’s a slow burn. They can’t deny each wants more than friendship but the past weighs heavily on their relationship. They know too well about heartache and the uncertainty of love. This story is about hope, a bit of romance, and suspense all wrapped together.
Oh Michelle how you broke my heart and put it back together again. I have loved this series from the very start. When I read book one and read about all the guys I was so excited to see that each one was getting his book and i was not disappointed either. Each guy had his own issues but when they fell they fell hard and did whatever it took to get their girl and keep here.
In We Were Lost we meet Zac who is a widower and does not want to get into another relationship. He has decided that he will have friends with benefits but when he meets Chloe all bets are off because what he thought was once dead his heart is now beating wildly for Chloe and he wants to be more than friends.
But Chloe is a wild child and she has no intentions on settling down. She does what she wants when she wants and where she wants but Zac does something to her heart and she is finally considering settling down with Zac and giving him a chance at love. Will Chloe and Zac become one or will they stay friends with benefits?
I’ve always had a soft spot for Zac.
His love story was perfect.
Until his wife was murdered.
Zac always thought he’d never find love again because Laurie was his first and perfect love.
While everyone else around him are finding their HEA he’s just living.
Fixated on his job and one specific case.
All is focus is centered around arresting everyone involved in the meth making and distribution in his town.
Chloe leaves her country of South Africa to stay with her best friend Emma for a while.
Outwards she appears carefree.
But Chloe harbors a lot of pain and hurt.
She no longer believes in love.
It will take fun loving Chloe to open Zac’s eyes that maybe he can find love again.
Zac is determined to show Chloe that she’s worthy and to put her doubts aside.
These two are so good for one another.
Each one of them brings out the missing pieces and parts of the other.
Their journey was hard.
It had its ups and downs.
But it takes strong conviction and strength to get their HEA.
This wonderful series of Southern Heroes now reaches its climax, and I am truly sad to say goodbye. ‘Parting is such sweet sorrow’ and that oxymoron is perfect to describe the mixed emotions this final book in the series elicited.
Zak and Chloe both know the heartache of love and neither are looking for commitment. Their back stories and the losses they have suffered are dealt with in a sensitive and empathetic manner. Whilst there is sorrow there is also plenty of humour, and the characters from the previous books in the series make appearances throughout. I love the men and women living within these pages and the brotherhood between the guys in particular, which is full of warmth, friendship and love.
There are truths to be revealed and loose ends to be tied off and the author does all with aplomb. A fitting and enthralling finale with an epilogue that is everything an addict of the series could wish for….I received an advanced copy of the book from the author.
The death of a spouse is never easy but, what happens when you meet a beautiful, spunky, sassy woman? That’s exactly what happens to Zach when he meets Chloe. Such a beautiful storyline and well written. This is the conclusion to an amazing series.
Michelle Heard has ended the Southern Heroes series with a very emotional read. We Were Lost will pull you in and make you feel the hurt Zac has. It is a beautifully written conclusion that will make you fall in love with the characters and the story itself.
It is highly recommended that you read this series in order from beginning to end so that you fully understand the story line. This last book, will give you a HEA with all the feels and make you wish the series did not have to end.
Every book in this series has taken the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and this one is no different.
Zach’s pain is almost a living entity, Michelle brings him to life perfectly. He is closed off emotionally but his love for his family is one aspect that gives you hope that he can let go of his past and fall in love again.
Chloe is wary of relationships her family life has made her jaded. I really admired Chloe she is her own person and is unapologetic about who she is. Chloe is a free spirit, slightly kooky but she’s fun and when you have her loyalty once you have it for life.
So the series is over and I for one have loved getting to know this at times dysfunctional but wonderful group of people .
Loved this amazing series so beautiful intense broken addicting amazing loving .Loved Zac and Chloe.I so want more
This was a good read and a great conclusion to the series! I loved these guys and couples!
When We Were Lost landed in my kindle I couldn’t wait to start it, but I knew that by starting it I was going to say goodbye to all the guys from the Southern Heroes Series. As I knew it was the last and it’s always sad to say goodbye to a group of people you’ve got attached too, I still got brave and dived straight in.
Zac and Chloe. Their story completely captured my heart and soul. It literally took my breath away.
Such a powerfully emotional read, I was moved with every page turned. So full of heartfelt and heartbreaking moments, pain, hurt, warmth, light and love. It was just so beautifully written.
But my real love for this novel came from the strength that both Zac and Chloe showed.
We Were Lost explored subjects that we are all faced with in real life…What loss feels like, what grief looks like and how do we overcome it even though we think we can’t? How do we see beyond the hurt? How do we overcome our demons? How do we move forward?
And it’s those questions that right there why We Were Lost captured my soul.
Guys if you read my review, please know that I seriously cannot rate this novel high enough. Perfectly written, emotionally charged and in my eyes simply breathtaking.
A huge 5 stars from me.
I loved this series, and I was so happy to get Zac’s story finally! He really needed a HEA! I loved Chloe too, she had a great personality. This was the perfect ending to a great series!
We Were Lost by Michelle Heard is an emotional read that touches the heart and soul. It will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions- tears, heartbreak, loss, forgiveness, healing, romance, drama, angst, new love, passion, excitement, happiness and joy. This is characters that have you rooting for them to get their HEA. You will start reading and not stop until the very end of the book’s final word. You become enthralled with the characters life and stories. Eli and Chloe’s story will have you rooting for their HEA. This is the final book in this series but wow, ends on a high note. The author has a brilliant way of conveying the characters emotions, thoughts and feelings; This is one series that will have you feeling as though you were right there in the book , going thru everything with the characters. This was a great read and I loved the chemistry between the main characters. Fabulous story with great ending!!
My Rating: 4.5 stars ******
Like all the other books in this series, We Were Lost was a beautiful touching story. It flows really well and is easily a quick read. Each Character is unique with their own set of complexities, their own opinions, and their own personality. They are well developed and multidimensional. The author’s writing style is brilliantly crafted she pours so much emotion and empathy into her characters you can’t help but feel them in your soul. This book is bittersweet as it is the final chapter in the Southern Heroes Series. As usual, I am a greedy reader and I wish there was more. We are given closure but I really hope we see more of these characters in crossovers in the future.Michelle Heard
