Interesting view on police work from many different police officers. The author interviewed many police officers from all over the country and many different lines of police work. Gives you a new perspective on their work.
Not as interesting as I thought it would be.
It just read poorly
Well researched and written
You learn alot about policemen/women and their job and thoughts.
A nice collection of personal experiences and opinions from police officers across the U.S. Author does a great job of organizing the stories by different aspects of policing (Vice, Homicide, K-9, SWAT, Gangs, etc…) It was a very interesting look into police work from an officer’s perspective – some good, some bad. Some of the stories are a bit graphic, and some language can be ‘rough’, but it’s an honest account in their own words, so it adds to the authenticity. A few of the stories have you going “yuck!”, and others will have you smiling, but either way, it certainly does a good job of evoking emotion which is something I feel defines a good book. I’m walking away from this one with a little more understanding, and compassion on behalf of our country’s police force. They have very complex jobs!
Being retired from law enforcement I wondered how true the stories would be. They were good and sounded truthful. Well written and interesting!
Quite boring. Read the first few incidents and it couldn’t keep my attention.
Stories written as told to the writer, some times funny, some times sad. Gives you some site to what happens to policemen and to how they think
This is a compilation of “cop stories” from all over the U.S.A. The author, a British gent, interviewed hundreds of cops to glean the best stories – Happy, sad, tragic, funny, and blunt. If you support our wonderful law enforcement agencies, you will thoroughly enjoy this delightful book. From “the rookie” to the seasoned veteran cop – it’s all here.
A tough raw series of snips of time in many policemans’ lives. Enough is there to make you wonder if you can ever trust them to do what is just and right. It is a tough job.
Very straight-forward telling the stories of real police officers. It gives a great insight to the things law enforcement officers face day in and day out.
Just not for me, too flat, matter of fact, prefer a long story to short anecdotes.
I found it interesting because it was informative and realistic, but I was distracted by reading a book written by someone from England about American cops. The problem, for me, is being jarred by the spelling and word choices in so many places. Also, the book seemed repetitive in many ways and sometimes confusing about who was speaking. On balance, I’m glad I read it.
This is a thorough compendium of types of cop situations our men and women in blue must face daily. I came away with a real respect for them. Cops have to work in a poorly-paid career, are often restricted by political agendas of higher-ups, are disrespected and taunted by the public, and daily face the possibility of pain or death . Yes, behind the scenes they don’t “talk pretty,” and there are some bad cops just as there are bad teachers and doctors. Overall, these are dedicated, hard-working, and brave people without whose presence we would all be in trouble.
Too many spelling mistakes. Poorly written. Couldn’t get past the first few chapters. Is no one proofreading?
I want to thank the author for showing me that no matter where the police are living and working they are a lot alike.
This is an inside look at what the police officer can go through from his/her rookie days to retirement.
For me it was an eye opener.
