I first read this suspenseful, spine-tingling horror-thriller as a Leisure paperback and I loved reading every chilling page! As a child, Dunny endured being called a “water witch” and many other cruel names because of her unusual psychic abilities. Years later, as an adult, those abilities might be the only hope of saving two children who have been abducted by a deranged killer and have been buried up to their necks, deep in the Louisiana bayous. The madman’s unthinkable act has also awakened vengeful spirits in the small town nearby. Despite a somewhat troubled life, Dunny takes on the task of helping the police find the killer and rescue the children, regardless of the enormous threat to her own life. I greatly enjoyed reading this nail-biting chiller and I’m sorry that it’s the only book I’ve ever read by Deborah LeBlanc because I think LeBlanc is a fantastic talent in the fields of horror and suspense! This gifted author deserves all of the praise she can get from critics, deserves every award she’s ever won that can be awarded to a fiction writer, especially the Bram Stoker Award and the Edgar Allan Poe Award, and she deserves a gigantic enough fanbase to make her serious competition for Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Mary Higgins Clark, and Nora Roberts! Whether or not I choose to read any of her other books, I definitely want to read A House Divided, Morbid Curiosity, Grave Intent, and Family Inheritance. Why? I know that these books are some of her other horror novels and thrillers and, considering how much immense pleasure I took from Water Witch, I want more, more, more!!! I like reading paperback books, which is why it’s most likely how I will wind up getting the chance to read these others. To anyone else who wants to read this author’s books because of how good this review makes her seem, I recommend reading these others if Water Witch proves too hard to find. Since you know how much I want to read her other books, you can let me know what you think of these books!
