What a cracker, I started this in the AM and at every opportunity through the day I was back in there. Finished the same day, the story moved on at a good pace always keeping me interested and understanding the plot.. A hearty recommend from me.
Watch The Bodies is the first Jake Boulder novel, written by Graham Smith and published by Bloodhound Books.
This is a very polished crime novel, well written with a really fast paced flow. There is little excess fat to the story which feels like it has been fully trimmed to get from scene to scene as quickly as possible. This keeps you page turner at a great pace, but once or twice it skims over how a few things have been discovered or a few conveniences occur.
‘The Watcher’ is a great villain and somewhat tragic, but whilst at first seems truly bizarre, begins to make more sense the more the story goes on. I would have liked a little bit more as to why he was obsessed with becomming a serial killer, but his motives are pretty well rounded.
My reason for knocking off a star is I actually didn’t particularly like Jake Boulder. I found him too cock sure of himself and there are points where he is just needlessly aggressive. He’s made out to be an untouchable street fighter, but he is also a better detective than everyone else and smarter than the FBI. For me, I prefer a more vulnerable or atleast slightly flawed hero, who you can relate to. Boulder came across as more of a bully than a hero. But hopefully, with the developments in this book, this will progress in the future instalments.
I whizzed through this book and if you like uber macho characters like Jack Reacher, then this is certainly for you!
Liked the story.
Would read anything by this author. Couldn’t put it down!
Disturbing!
Loved it Mr Smith is now one of my sought after authors
Strange plot twists and intriguing characters made this book work fairly well. Jake was quite likable and not over drawn. We hear too much about the naivete of the ingenue and the inner stalemates of the world weary psychiatrist.
The underlying plot is a clever approach to a serial killer. Jack Boulder needs to develop his mind and self control above his bar brawling physicality. A shift from Superman toward Sherlock Holmes would make Jack much more interesting.
Great book. Gotta give it a few chapters to warm up to main character, but then, you’re OFF!!
A wonderful read so scary and believable such good characters i recommend this for the ones who want action such a good read i went through it in one night
Was better than I expected. Plot moves along smoothly, characters are believable and dialogue is clean. The ending was very abrupt. I had wondered if I missed something, but was just sudden.
This is the first book I have read of this author and was very pleased. Micah is asked to help his lifelong friend Alfonse and ends up taking over the case of a past love interest who ends up being in a long line of kills
Very good read. Couldn’t put it down.
A great book kept me reading late into the night, did not guess the ending, excellent read. No wasted words to fill the pages in this book.
Test story kept you interested through the entire book. It kept you trying to figure out who did it until close to the end. Good book.
You just want to keep reading. I wish that there was a sequel!
