A sexy and emotional second chance romance…David Wiesel lives for making music, partying, and women. He has a wicked sense of humor and a body made for sinning. He’s the kind of guy every mama warns her daughter about.Sylvia Price lives for her daughter, theater, and teaching. She’s living the responsible life and left her wild ways in the past. She’s the kind of woman every mama wants her son … of woman every mama wants her son to marry. Not that she’s looking for that.
One drunken night when they were teenagers left them irrevocably bound. Fifteen years later, an accident brings them back together and there is no denying the heat that scorched them when they were young is still there, sparking between them.
While David is more than willing to stoke those flames, Sylvia is afraid this time, the fire will burn her right to the ground.

Melt my heart why don’t you
As soon as I finished reading the 1st book in the Blue is the Color series, Times Like These (which I have to recommend, btw!), I HAD to dive right into this one without delay. How could I resist? David Wiesel, guitarist for Blue, had me wondering- what’s going on in the head of this man who can love a two ladies at once like it’s his job, seems so angry at times but then sweet at others and had such a soft, marshmallow heart for his teenaged daughter, Emma. He is the definition of an enigma!
As much as he loves Emma, he has a complicated relationship, if you can call it that, with her mother, Sylvia. They do the ‘hand off’ and barely speak unless necessary for Emma’s well being.
When David, who is on tour on the other side of the world, gets the call from Silvia that Emma has been hurt, he races back to her side, panicking the whole way home. But..there is Silvia- what kind of conversation can happen with two parents who don’t know anything but the basics about each other after all these years?
Silvia’s world changed because of one night and a broken condom. David’s, not so much. Yes, he pays support and sees Emma when he can, yes, he loves her, but David is more absent than not. His life as a member of a famous rock band keeps him on the road most of the year and Silvia knows waaaay more than she will admit about what David is up to on those tours. Lots of women, drinking and lack of responsibility is what he’s good at, while she was thrown into learning what it takes to becoming a mom at 16. Can you blame her for feeling resentful and angry at being the forgotten one?
When David offers his home to Emma during her recovery and her mom comes along, getting to know each other takes on a brand new meaning. David discovers some hard facts about himself and how much he’s let himself miss out on with Emma. Silvia and David have misconceived notions and have totally misjudged the other by building high walls around their hearts, keeping their thoughts and feelings well hidden. Turns out they have more to find out than meets the eye!
I can’t express how much I loved this story. David surprised me so many times and Silvia, well…she had some secrets up her badass little sleeves…the heat was on, the ice was melting, as was my rockstar loving heart while I was given a front row seat to sweet redemption.
What a swing of emotions this book brought out. I had a few eye dabbing moments, tons of laughs at the sarcastic and witty words that were everywhere, along with tender times and sexy scenes that will pull hard on your heartstrings! David…what a sexy, swoonyworthy man you can be when you try!
Julia Wolf has everything you could want to find in a romance writer. Her flowing words are like the finest chocolate- rich, tasty and little bit addictive… I don’t know how I missed out on her until now but it was a lucky day for me when I chanced upon her wonderful books. Can’t wait for the next Blue story, which I’m sure will grab my heart again.
When a serious accident happens to their daughter Emma, David and Sylvia are thrown together after fifteen years of parallel parenting. Having minimal interaction with each other, now the feelings they held close to themselves were exposed showing all the regret, hope and love they gradually built up for each other and allowing all the potential for romance that was there years earlier to finally be sifted through. This was not a second chance romance as much as it was a story of the right timing, circumstances and maturity coming together. A teen hook up, a broken condom and a baby were the devices used by Julia Wolf to make an interesting spin in her work focusing around two characters that had no real context to their relationship other than the consequences of their teen pregnancy. This author gave a genuine and raw look at the evolution of a relationship between a couple that had no true history with each other to fall back on and take comfort in as they struggled to be parents while still kids themselves.
David was a man-child for many years yet his absolute devotion to his daughter never waivered making him likable even when his actions spoke otherwise. His openly addressing his shortcomings without making excuses even as he battled with regret and guilt gave him substance to justify his hero role. Sylvia was not without issues herself but her ability to rise above her personal struggles and be an incredible mother spoke volumes. Past and present communication was a key factor in how this couple dealt with hurt, mistakes and misunderstandings. As David and Sylvia aged their ability to see beyond assumptions and not let them hold them back allowed them to achieved their happiness.
Julia Wolf creates interesting and well-developed character portrayals. She does a great job of bringing the past to the present while maintaining a current perspective to her work. Her dialog is sharp and unique to her players. Ms. Wolf’s character analysis shows that she is unafraid and does not fall prey to stereotyping with her out of the box storylines. The Blue Is The Color series started off great with Times Like These and continues this trend with Watch Me Unravel!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*
Julia Wolf does it again. This is fast becoming one of my favorite series. Just like the first standalone in the series, Watch Me Unravel grabbed me from the very first page. I felt connected to the characters and emotionally invested in their story. There’s not a single thing I would change about it. I can’t wait for the next one!
David and Sylvia have a rocky past. There’s a lot of doubt, shame, and mistrust. There are so many mixed feelings that you think these two will never be able to move past it.
Then something happens that forces them to stop ignoring and running away from their problems. They must face everything from their past, and their feelings in the present to see where they really are.
I’m not gonna lie, Sylvia was not my favorite character, and I absolutely could not stand her best friend, but over time I started to like Sylvia, just a little bit. That being said, I absolutely LOVED David. So maybe, I was just picking sides all along.
I was fully invested in this book from beginning to end. I felt bad for David, while wanting to throat punch Sylvie. They were stubborn, they had angst, and pain. Above all though, they had intense feelings, and passion so strong that you couldn’t help rooting for them all along.
I’m not going to tell you if this book has a HEA, because then you wouldn’t be able to experience this story the way it should be experienced.
Do they figure out how to get over themselves, and out of their own way, to find true love?
I don’t know…maybe you should read this story yourself, and find out?!
When I picked up Watch Me Unravel, I couldn’t put it down. David is a character that’s a bit rough around the edges (at least that’s what I knew after Times Like These), but there’s so much more to him. David is the wild one, sleeps with different women all the time and isn’t always seen as the nice guy. His life gets turned upside down though when he gets a call his daughter was in a car accident.
David and Sylvia slept together once 15 years ago when they were both teenagers. A broken condom changed their lives that night, but they both love Emma. Through the years David thinks he’s been a good father. He sends her money, visits her and his her visit him. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his daughter. David and Sylvia only communicate when it comes to their daughter.
So when Emma gets in an accident, their worlds get a little bit closer. David and Sylvia have to put their differences aside for their little girl, even though there are still a lot of unresolved feelings. When Emma and Sylvia have to move in to David’s condo so Emma can heal, things get interesting, haha.
Sylvia has always felt like a single mom and has to get used to giving David some control. Over the years she’s created a great support system (the friends we meet in this book are so much fun) and thinks she’s going pretty well. I loved Sylvia. She’s such a strong woman. After a not so amazing childhood and getting pregnant so young, her life could’ve been a lot worse. Sylvia does amazing work and I love the theater program she does. She gives kids an amazing opportunity!
David didn’t have a great childhood. His Dad was an addict and his mother had to work a lot to keep them going. David has never thought just being there at times wasn’t enough for Emma and Sylvia. Having them around him in his condo, really opens his eyes. David starts feeling things he never realize he could feel. Being in one place for long has always spooked him, but he’s now thinking he should stick around.
The romance between David and Sylvia is very steamy and the added aspects of their past makes things interesting. They bicker a lot, argue, but the sparks fly when they’re around each other. I love seeing this book as a journey. Their daughter connects them, but so many years later they’re finally dealing with these feelings together.
David is far from perfect, but seeing him vunerable and realize a lot about himself, definitely made me love him! I thought Nick was going to be my favorite, but he’s taken the number one spot for now. David really starts looking at himself and what he missed. He learns to take risks and open himself up. All I wanted was for him to get his happily ever after!
Watch Me Unravel is filled with family, friends, love, romance and many steamy moments. The characters are amazing and we get another glimpse at all of the other band members. I am so excited for the books to come! Julia Wolf knows how to write a story you connect to. I was really sad when it ended!
If you love a book with amazing characters, a great love story, humor and lots of steamy moments, definitely pick this one up!
I LOVED this book by Julia Wolf, my favorite yet from her. Which is saying something because I loved the entire series she wrote before this one. You will ADORE all the characters in this book and feel like you’re right there with them experiencing their second chance at love.
Watch Me Unravel is the second book in the Blue is the Color series. While is is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. Even though this reader recommends you read the first book prior to this one to have more of a dynamic of the band members. The author does do a great job of reminding us readers who read the first book and for those that didn’t read the first one, about the other characters relationships so a new reader will not be lost.
David and Sylvia were a lot more that what I was expecting. The author was awesome in keeping events and timelines realistic. She also does a wonderful job with her writing that makes if easy to visualize the scene and really place you in the story. You feel as if you really know the characters and are feeling the emotions they are feeling. These emotions will have you all over the place from laughs to tears and upset at the actions or words the characters do. There is so much depth to David and Sylvia and when you expect one thing to happen the author surprises you with something different. This reader found it difficult to put the book down and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Prepare for an all-nighter, people!
First, the title, Watch Me Unravel, is so very perfect. David and Sylvia have both wrapped themselves up so thoroughly in layers of emotional armor–and are equally and deliberately wound up with unspent…everything–you’re going to be squirming in your comfy reading chair with anticipation as you wait for the breaking point. For it all to unravel and for these two to collide. And what a sweet frenzy it is when they do!
I especially love how much care the author takes in allowing the relationship between David and Sylvia to grow new roots before the inevitable physical side evolves. We get so many delicious little encounters as they discover unknown parts of each other and themselves. You can’t help but become invested in their story, thus the all-nighter I warned about.
And no review would be complete without mentioning Julia Wolf’s flair for threading humor throughout the emotional and steamy storyline. I was utterly charmed by the three central characters and, probably more important, I believed them.
You need this book in your life! Trust me. Just go grab it and thank me later.
This book was such an easy read for me. It kept my attention from start to finish. David was an a** but he loved his daughter. I just don’t know if he knew how to fully be present. I think he needed to not only find balance, but to grow up. I think Sylvia needed a partner, and not just a support system to lean on. She had to grow up fast, and wanted to do things her way. I think they both needed to let go and trust.
I love David & Sylvia’s story!!! This was a great 2nd book in the Blue Is The Color novels. This story made my heart hurt. Anyone who’s had their heart broken can relate. I kept rooting for David but he was such a mess & kept screwing up. I couldn’t put the book down & got nothing done all day. Loved it!!!
It’s no secret. I love Julia Wolf’s books and I am happy to provide a review for the ARC she gave me.
Watch Me Unravel is the second book in the Blue is the Color series. This book stars David, a carefree rockstar guitarist. I couldn’t help but like David in the first book. He was flirtatious and fun and obviously loved his teenage daughter. The book starts with David being woken by his daughter’s mother Sylvia to say there had been an accident. He rushes back home from touring in Germany to find his daughter’s leg broken.
The band is now on a year break and David moves Sylvia and their daughter into his condo so she can heal from her injuries. David and Sylvia had a one night stand fifteen years ago and he’s let her be the primary parent since. The best thing about this book was the slow realization David had about just how much he missed out on. Sylvia was a saint and never called him out on how uninvolved he was in parenting.
They worked through their issues and have a totally awesome HEA. Second chance romances are my jam and this book totally hit the mark on the sweet, slightly angsty reconciliation 15 years in the making. Julia is a wonderful story teller and I look forward to reading more in this series.
What an amazing Rockstar Romance!
It’s one you don’t want to miss!
I loved David and Sylvia’s story! Having Emma so young made for a rocky relationship between parents and child. Although an accident threw them together they had a lot to work on to be together.
Julia has written another beautiful love story that captures you and keeps you entertained all the way through it! You won’t be able to put it down!
If you like a fabulous second chance rockstar romance Watch Me Unravel is for you!
Clearing the past to make a future
This is David’s story with his daughter and Sylvia. They had her when they were young but Sylvia has had to raise her basically by her self. She has resentment built up as she’s had to deal with everything on her own. Davis has his own demons and thinks watching Emma from afar is enough. But when Emma ends up in the hospital her parents have to come together to take care of her. David and Sylvia have to deal with everything from the past as they find themselves still attracted to each other. Will they finally come together to be a family? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Watch Me Unravel was an amazing story that I was so pulled into from page 1…I could not put it down. These characters were simply amazing and real. It was written so well that you could easily feel what they were feeling. I was very emotional. I loved everything about it and I can’t wait to read more!
I loved being back in the book world with my favorite fictional band, Blue is the Color, again. I had a feeling David’s story was going to be something special since it involved his daughter and her mother, and Julia Wolf did not disappoint me. This book definitely had a more domesticated feel because the band is taking a break from touring and you are no longer watching a love story as it develops on the road. I found that I liked the change of setting because it was fun to see the guys on their home turf. I really like the hero David, but I found myself really rooting for and siding with Sylvia. I love a kick ass female character and Sylvia had that in spades. Overall, this was a great read and I can’t wait to see which band member falls in love next.
I loved this book and this series! A bad boy rocker who gets a second chance and a big dose of reality that makes him realize what really matters. I love the strength of the women in this book and their relationships created because it truly takes a village to raise a kid. 5 stars
This book sucked me in. I loved this story of David and his family. Sylvia has been through so much and still is a badass. David is broody and sexy and open to growth! Emma is the most amazing teenager ever. I highly recommend this book. It, like Times Like These, is about a rock star, but it didn’t feel like a gimmicky rock star story. Loved it!
I loved this book. I’m a sucker for second chance romance and this book has it all. Julia Wolf is an amazing author and I can’t wait to find out what she will write next. Loved the broadway references throughout! I read this book in one day and I don’t often reread but this one I will.
David is a bad boy rockstar with the band Blue is the Color, he travels with his band and filling his nights with women to keep the silent away. Fifteen years ago his one night stand with a sweet virginal catholic school girl led to the birth of his daughter Emma, who he loves more than his own life. His daughter’s mom Sylvia is a mystery to him, he barely remembers the night Emma was conceived. He only gets glimpse of her when he was would pick up Emma for brief stays with him over the years. Sylvia on the other hand both loved and hated David from afar, too scared to get close but too scared to get too far away.
In a blink of an eye his life changes, one phone call from Syliva telling him Emma was in a car wreck and in surgery had him dropping everything and rushing home from the other side of the world. The three of them were forced to live together to care for Emma during her recovery. Living under one roof turns out to be much harder than they both expected in good and bays ways. The heat gets turned up between them, they have to figure out what it all means for the future
This author just keeps proving that she’s perfecting her craft with each new book. David and Sylvia aren’t quite as gritty as Nick and Dalia were, but they are the reality of two people trying to co-parent when one is clueless and the other is left behind to keep everything together.
Sylvia is rightfully cautious and slightly bitter about how to tolerate David, since he’s been more of a drop-in dad to their daughter for her entire life, but finds herself thawing toward him when circumstances thrust them together under one roof. She’s always been in love with David, but she’s certain he’s never truly felt anything for her, so she’s afraid of handing her cracked heart to him because he just might shatter it.
David, on the other hand, sees more than ever that he’s been remiss in his role as a father, so he’s trying to change it going forward. His only problem is that he wants Sylvia, and if he’s honest with himself, he’s loved and wanted her for what feels like forever. He works hard to become the man he wants to be, not just for Sylvia, but for himself and his daughter, as well.
These two definitely have a bumpy road, but David refuses to give up on the love of his life now that he’s finally gotten everything on track to where he truly wants to be. He works hard to change his fear and to prove to Sylvia that he IS the man for her and he IS in it for the long haul. Their HEA is beautiful and the epilogue made me cry.
This series has a much different feel from the first series, but that’s a good thing. Julia is proving that she’s got more than one trick or formula to work from and truly has something new to offer and delight readers in every book. I literally ranged from laughing to tearing up to happy to angry while reading this story, and I can’t recommend it enough because it gives the feeling of real life and real experiences without feeling forced at all.
