This is one of those books that will hit you out of left field and throw you for a loop! I was so not expected this story when I read the synopsis! In an amazing way, Harloe Rae gives us this brilliant story of a boy who watches the girl he loves from afar and how these two connect. Ryker finds his breath and sunshine in Lennon all those years ago in school and he continues to watch over her as she moves on in life through college. Yes, Harloe Rae made stalking sexy and hot! But I think the reason it is in this case is because it is a subtle way, not the utterly creepy, breaking into your house and stealing your panties way. He takes care of her from afar making sure she can do what she loves. Lennon is a very naive girl given how she grew up. But things all change when Ryker steps out of the shadows and these two honestly melt your heart when they are together. Even though Ryker had been watching her like he had, Lennon finds the passion in it and I think that is what made this story click.
Overall, this book is one unique story and takes you for a completely unexpected ride. If you want something different, I would recommend this one in a heartbeat!
The blurb made me think I was getting a twisty, darker read and I did get this vibe for the first chapter or so. However once the hero and heroine got together it turned into a very sugary sweet romance full of hearts, flowers and unicorns. This left me very disappointed in the book as it wasn’t the story that the blurb suggested.
Despite his stalkerish tendencies and his interference in Lennon’s life I really liked Ryker. His every motivation was to protect and care for her but not in a controlling way. He really struggled with social skills and situations – I’m not sure if the author was hinting at autism but this was left ‘in the air’. I loved the chapters from his point of view.
Lennon was very immature and naive and at times it did irritate me. Too often she sounded like a pre-teen on hallucinogenics. However this is a new adult books so at least some of her behaviour fitted in with her age and experience, although the more she spoke the worse it got. Since this is the first book I’ve read by this author I’m giving the benefit of the doubt, and as a result not lowering my rating in this instance.
Technically the writing is good, I found it easy to follow the story, knew who was talking etc. The dialogue felt natural, despite Lennon often sounding like a cross between Mary Poppins and Shirley Temple. The pace was good and the connection between Lennon and Ryker was believable. I’m just not a fan of many new adult books, which this most definitely is. Had the blurb or description made this clear I would probably have avoided this book as a result. That combined with the incredibly childish Lennon have me struggling on a rating, I just really could not connect with her.
I had really high hopes for this book after reading the blurb. I love a good stalking romance so couldn’t wait to jump in and Watch Me Follow had me hooked straight away.
Lennon Bennett is very shy but she still manages to catch loner Rykers attention. Ryker keeps to himself but he can’t stay away from Lennon so instead he stays in the shadows. After he comes to her rescue, it starts off an obsession with her that he’s helpless to stop. Ryker is the darkness to Lennons light. He’s troubled, obsessive and a little awkward and I really liked him.
This book started off so strong. The characters had that perfect balance of been really likeable while also keeping the suspense of what’s going to happen next. I loved the hide and seek game that Ryker and Lennon play in the beginning but then the story started to lose some of the momentum for me. I found Lennon and Ryker became overly sweet and a little cheesy at times and I found my interest wasn’t as strong towards the second half of this book. I did really like the characters for the most part and I loved how Ryker continues to battle with his anxiety throughout the book.
If you like sweet romances with a little obsession thrown in then you’ll probably love this book.
This book was amazing! Everyone should read it! I want a Ryker for my own!
Listen to me, I’m going to tell you the most important sentence ever. Ready?
STOP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AND READ THIS BOOK!
Seriously, it’s really important that you do that, because you really, REALLY don’t want to miss this one. I’ve never read Harloe Rae before, but I was intrigued so much by the blurb for Watch Me Follow I had to read it. Which leads me to now say something I was pretty sure I’d never say, but I fell in love with a stalker. Head over heels, stupidly ridiculous, in love with my (yes, mine, fight me!) new stalker book boyfriend.
A little bit twisted, a lot sweet. Watch Me Follow is a completely unique story that had me captivated from the first moment I started reading it. Who knew a stalker could be sweet, sexy, and totally swoon worthy? Ryker is all those things and more. His heart is so pure. I’ve never read a more beautiful soul than Ryker. He’s everything. Lennon was the balm to his tortured soul. She was all light and happiness. Together they make a couple sweeter than sugar. Their story was flawless!
Watch Me Follow was a very unconventional love story between Ryker Doxson and Lennon Bennett. He had never had a kind word said his way. Even his own parents taunted him with verbal abuse. He had been called demeaning names all his life, making his anxiety turn to anger about his life. That is until she showed up. For the first time in his young life, he didn’t feel alone. The blinding ray of sunshine has suddenly appeared in the form of the most beautiful girl. With her asking to borrow a pencil & sheet of paper, with a warm smile on her face, he was felt owned by her. What he didn’t realize was that he was her hero. And had been had been since saving her from a horrible situation. This was in high school and their paths rarely crossed, but he was watching and protecting from the shadows.
As Lennon moved onto college, she often wondered what had happened to Ryker. She would be shocked to learn, in all this time, he never had been too far away. He was her mysterious secret admirer. When she finally discovers her stalker, that has been following her and leaving her gifts, is no other then Ryker. She is overcome with feelings. They are good feelings, as he is her Ryker. She admits to having a crush on him back them. They are quite a unique couple, and embrace the new feelings they have for each other now. He can’t believe his “Sunshine” returns his feelings. Doesn’t ever want his “Sunshine” to go away. Their connection is life changing. Neither one wants to go back, just forward. This is their second-chance. His confidence had been destroyed, but he has waited for her to approach. And when she did approach, and was finally there before him. He never wanted to let her go.
Lennon was sure his stalking was romantic, and he preferred to calling it protecting or watching. He would do anything for his “Sunshine.” Yet this newly discovered bond between their hearts was still fragile, and neither one wanted to destroy their chances. She told him, “No more hiding.” She wanted him next to her, not following behind. He needs her to love him, and think of him as the man Lennon wants to spend her life with. What she shared with Ryker was serious, and she thought he was perfect. He promised he would always want her. And she nicknamed him Seek, and said she would never leave. They had lived sheltered lives, and promised to experience “first times” with each other. Oh the first kiss!!
They are two kindred souls. The universe had tilted and brought them together, two awkward oddballs. He begged her to never leave. That he never would survive alone. Together they were their own normal. “You bring a level of calm to my life that I can’t achieve alone.” Fate brought them together for a reason, and they were happy. This is an epic love story, but not everyone is happy about them. There are those who would keep them apart. They would fight on the same side, just two against the world. Watch Me Follow!!
If only everyone could read this book. Harloe Rae has written one of the most beautiful, poignant, thought-provoking, powerful and well-intentioned stories I’ve ever read.
Harloe Rae was an author new to me until just a few weeks ago. I have now read three of her books, and I absolutely devoured them one right after the other. And now that I know her brilliance, her ability to make my heart and mind explode with so much hope and love, I will make certain to read everything she has ever written and anything she will ever write in the future. “Watch Me Follow” is SPECTACULAR, BRILLIANT, ABSOLUTE GENIUS! Harloe is one of those authors who can take relative, real-life material and situations, apply it in her fictitious storyline and characters, make very important points, and move her readers to thoughtfulness and emotionality. There were so many times throughout this read that I paused; I made a conscientious effort to stop; to think and feel. That kind of persuasion from an author to ignite feelings and emotions from within a reader, cause the reader to pause and be mindful of the situation and/or characters, is powerful. And, at least in my opinion, that is an innate gift that not all writers/authors have, and something to behold. That ability to move and touch an audience with simple black words on white paper is beyond words for me.
The characters Harloe chose as her main focus in this book were so perfect. Ryker and Lennon were absolutely made for each other; one is the hand, the other the glove. I loved how torn they were as teenagers, not believing the other even knew they existed. And even after their initial encounter, which made me immediately fall in love with Ryker, they still found it hard to believe in what they each felt towards the other, and it wasn’t talked about again. Until life moved on, a short time later in college, that same innocence and naivety crawled back out of hibernation. Both Ryker and Lennon remembered, and individually they had always hoped…hoped they could one day be face to face again, be close enough to share the same air. But it just never seemed possible that they could ever feel that same ignition from deep within their hearts and souls as they did that day; the day Lennon was backed into a corner by a boy who thought he deserved Lennon’s attention, and Ryker knew his place was to step in and save the girl he’d been dreaming about all along. The feelings never escaped either of them, but they also never thought the stars would align for them again as it had that day at school. In their continued hope to feel that with one another again, the impossible became possible; the dream turned to reality; the stars did align…and there was more. Without giving much more away, just know this is a story I hope everyone will pick up and read. It is THAT AMAZING!!! It is that powerful, that beautiful, that loving, and it is filled with lessons in life and love.
I loved and felt every, single part of this book. I felt Ryker’s hesitation in the world, Lennon’s innocence and naivety, and their unknowing desire to be around and with one another. The feelings from this book attached to my heart from the Prologue, and I couldn’t set it down for a second. When an author has the ability to connect with their audience and move them to feel, in my opinion, they have done their job. If I do not feel a connection, feel the emotion, feel the situations, feel the characters, I cannot get wrapped up in the story. What I love about Harloe Rae is she made me feel, and she also took me on the journey with Ryker and Lennon. I felt like I was right there with them. That, too, is powerful. And although this was a work of fiction, what Harloe guided us through in this read was so, incredibly critical to EVERY human being. She brilliantly taught about tolerance, acceptance, welcoming, being unafraid and speaking up, being kind to one another, devotion, humility, happiness and love. It was just a beautiful book, a beautiful read, and it blew me away.
If only everyone would read this book. Harloe Rae wrote an amazingly powerful book, extremely poignant, thought-provoking, and very well-intentioned and one I will not soon forget. Thank you for your storytelling and being unafraid to take a difficult and taboo societal topic and making it something worthwhile and necessary to these main characters and all of humanity. It changed their lives, and I know, like it did for me, it has the ability to change, even if just to take pause to think and feel, for whomever reads “Watch Me Follow” by Harloe Rae.
Watch Me Follow is a amazing read. A very well written book that has a plot that will surprise you with the emotions it will make you feel. I absolutely adored Ryker and Lennon’s story. I feel the concept of this book is one that will cause many readers to either turn away from it because of their preconceived ideas about it or begin reading it while thinking they know what this book is or how it will make them feel. I feel I must tell them to just open their hearts and minds to read this treasure of a read. It’s powerful, stunning, emotional, beautiful and so very, very sweet. Your heart shall break for Ryker and at the same time you will wish you could find someone that can love you that well and with such depth of devotion. Lennon has some of her own issues but together these two are perfect for each other. This is a beautiful, sweet, tender and thought provoking read. I believe that if you let it will touch your heart because it touched mine. I’m posting a voluntary, honest review after reading an advance copy of this book.
Watch me Follow is a must read, it is captivating and you won’t be disappointed. The chemistry between Ryker and Lennon felt so real. This story will pull at your heart strings.
This was my first read by Harloe Rae and I devoured it, I just could not put the book down. Harloe Rae has a new follower.
Funny, I did something I don’t usually do before writing my review of this book. There were things twirling in my head and I couldn’t think how to start my review. Why such a hard time from someone who clearly suffers from diarrhea of the mouth and never has a problem speaking my mind. I think another reviewer hit on it for me about the dialogue thing. Sometimes the it was over the top but I also found it refreshing. I mean this big burly guy had been picked on just for being different. Words were not easy for him and emotions were ever harder. I mean for Christ sake he is a stalker by any means it is kinda creepy, but she gets him and gets it and I mean there is nothing normal but it all makes sense and so do they. So yeah I was all over the place.
I love this author and I do so love what she brings to the table and I really love her characters, they are as unique and just short of crazy. But her characters work and they fit her story and it is all mind melding and at times painful due to their naivety. It’s well written and powerful and an absolutely beautiful read.

5/5
Watch Me Follow is sweet and emotional and reminded me of how much I love Harloe Rae’s writing and how glad I am to have found her. The anxiety that Ryker lives with is palpable but not so dramatic that it’s annoying. It’s a fascinating and respectful look into anxiety exacerbated by bullying and abuse. The journey to love, honesty, and confidence is beautiful. Everyone needs a love like Lennon and Ryker’s – love that is stronger together than apart. A love where your partner is your teammate, where you build each other up and are each other’s strength. Watch Me Follow reminds us of both the positive and negative impact that words have. I absolutely loved this book. It was heartfelt, heartwarming, thought-provoking, and emotional. One of the best books I’ve read in a while.
