Watch Me…The first book in New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden’s sexy new romantic suspense series…DARK OBSESSION.
He was hired to protect her.
Watching gorgeous Gwen Hawthorne wasn’t a hard job—but it certainly was tempting. Chance Valentine had tried to keep his distance from the sexy socialite for years, but when her father hired him to keep watch on her—as a … on her—as a twenty-four, seven bodyguard—Chance knew his control was about to be pushed to the limit.
He’d never wanted another woman the way he desired her. Hot. Intense. Consuming. Being so close to Gwen, Chance knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist her. So he gave into his need, her need, and he took them both to the edge of a dark and consuming desire.
But Chance soon realizes that he isn’t the only one watching Gwen. Someone else is out there, a stalker who won’t rest until Gwen is destroyed. Every day, every moment…Gwen is in danger. And Chance knows that if he can’t unmask the stalker, then he may just lose the only woman he has ever loved.
Watch me.

This book is really good and a page-turner. The steam can peel paint!

3 Stars
I wish I could give this one more. I am a big fan of Cynthia Eden’s & love most of the books I’ve read of hers. But, this one was lacking in a few areas.
My biggest problem was the repetition. I think if I read one more time “She/He wanted his/her hands on her/him. ……since the first …..” I was going to scream & pull my hair out.
Was the mystery and criminal element well played? Yes, it was. BUT, and this is a big BUT!
Chance was supposed to be a professional with years of training in the military and after on jobs. He came off with a couple of screws loose. The times he should have been professional and used his head he used his fist instead. I lost a lot of respect for his character and the story itself.
Now to something weird….
On Amazon & GR the page count is listed as 236 pages. That is WRONG. It is much shorter.
The German edition says 169 pages & is most likely the correct page count.
Other than the problems I had with it, it is still a pretty good story. It moves quickly and you find yourself at the end before you know it.
The adult romance areas are nicely done. The romance itself is pretty good, but could have used a bit more maturity on both the MC’s parts.
It could have been a great read, but it was just above what I consider the ‘Okay’ mark.
I have a feeling the next in the series will be better. That is due to what I found in this story that I did like and my past experience reading Ms. Eden’s books.

Wow… the twists and turns you aren’t expecting!!! Good read!!!
Loved this book and the characters. A must read.
Watch Me is the first book in the Dark Obsession series by Cynthia Eden. I went into this book with high expectations based on prior experience with the author’s work. This book made me realise that there will be times when our favourite authors do not deliver as expected.
This was a short and easy read, but it did not pack the punch I expect from this author. The story move quickly, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, in this case the events were rushed. It felt as if chunks of the story were missing. This is the first book in the series, but it read like a sequel.
It was evident from the start that the protagonists (Chance and Gwen) have prior knowledge of each other, so their chemistry immediately jumped off the pages. They were in love with each other for a long time, but circumstances prevented them from getting involved. Therefore, there is no insta-love in this story. However, because of their limited back-story I did not connect with them either as individuals or as a couple. Things would have been so much interesting if I had information about how they first met, how their feelings for each other developed and the events that led to their current situation.
I did not appreciate Chance’s decision to lie to Gwen. There was no justifiable reason for him do so. I am still trying to figure out why. I knew the reason he lied, but it made little sense. He had several opportunities to come clean, but he failed to do so.
The suspense was not as good as I expected from Ms. Eden. There was a suspect, and all the evidence pointed to that person. The author also threw in a few twists, which threw me of the scent. However, I did not get nail biting or edge of your seat feeling one would expect to get from stories such as these. I believe this was due in part to the ease with which I figured out the villain’s identity, despite the efforts made to disguise the true villain. In addition, the excitement factor, which usually accompanies the genre was lacking. For me the entire scenes were fluffy and easy to predict.
Conclusion/Recommendation
Despite the issues, I liked the story. It offered me the escape I was looking for at the time I read it. Although, it did not go as I had hoped; I plan to continue the series. Not a bad read but my least favourite from the author.
Love this series.
Held my interest and made me want to finish it
I liked the strong characters and th steamy scenes
to much sex would like better if it was left for me to fill it in instead of right out there
You read these types of stories regularly: Boy (or girl) misses chance, situations offer another but there are hurdles, blah, blah. BUT: Those other stories were not written by Cynthia Eden. You find yourself falling in love with her quirky characters and eager to read the next installation.
Great book!
Loved it
injoyed
Fun read
This was my first read from Cynthia Eden. The story was a quick read, I am glad I gave it a shot.
Chance is a mix of Sex, Power, regrets and Softness. Gwen is the one that got away. This was a good case of who did it, and I did not see the end coming. fast paced story with action, suspense, danger, passion, deception and interesting characters. I do not like spoilers so I will leave it to the blurb to explain the story but this was a good read and worth giving the series a read.
Dark Obsession: Book 1
This book is the first book in the Dark Obsession series. They are books that are best read in order but they are stand alone books without cliff hangers.
Watch Me is about a body guard Chance Valentine and his ex-boss’s daughter Gwen Hawthorne. These two have a past and now have a second chance at love but a demented killer has set his sights on Gwen and Chance will dodge all the bullets he has to and give his life to save hers if he must.
This is a sexy intense book that reads quickly and the twists and turns of mystery makes it more interesting. Throw in hot alpha men and you have a winner.
