Some universal truths refuse to be ignored.Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Spaghetti and meatballs are best friends forever. And guys like Tyler Knight don’t go for girls like Cam Emerson. She knew from the second she met him that he didn’t belong on her bookshelf, the six-foot-six ex-tight end with a face so all-American, it could have sold apple pie. So she shelved him next … shelved him next to the supermodels and rock stars and took her place on her own shelf — the one with the flannel-clad, pasty-faced comic book nerds. Most of her boyfriends have existed between the pages of books, but rather than worrying over her own lacking love life, she puts all her energy into playing Cupid, using her job at the book bar, Wasted Words, as her stomping ground.
Tyler Knight always looks on the bright side. His career-ending injury turned into a job as a sports agent. A horrible breakup led him to Cam, his quirky, smart roommate who is far more beautiful than she realizes. She’s made it perfectly clear she’s not interested in him — not like that at least — but if she ever changes her mind, he won’t hesitate. Because he doesn’t see the lines she’s drawn between them, as much as she insists that they’re there. Deep down he knows that despite their differences, they’re a match well made.
A standalone romantic comedy inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma

Another good story by Staci Hart. The flow of the story is great. Loved the setting and the characters. The editing, however, not so much. So many simple, fixable errors. “We fell into content silence…”, “but the crowed had lined…”, and “halfway into the gallon when decided…” are just a few examples. Annoying to me, but maybe they won’t stick out so much to someone else.
As far as the story goes – it was sweet and fun. I enjoyed the banter and relationship between Cam and Tyler. It is easy to understand the devastation Cam felt in high school, and how that would have affected her view on relationships. However, people should always be viewed on their own merits, something Cam does seem to learn along the way. Can is a great, quirky, fun character. Loved how Tyler was so emotionally honest. When he realized he felt more for Cam than friendship, he didn’t immediately assume she would feel the same because he “could get any girl he wanted”. He had his own fears and insecurities. But, he knew what he wanted, and as soon as Cam opened the door a crack he jumped. He also realized that you can’t make someone let go of whatever is in their head. He was willing to wait, but sometimes you can only hurt people so many times before they have to preserve something of themselves.
Really enjoyed the story despite the annoying editing errors. I read to be entertained, and I was not disappointed.
It’s painful to watch someone implode but that’s exactly what happens as you read Wasted Words. Cam Emerson is such a sweet, kind person wanting everyone to be happy and loved. Her problem is she never wants to be wrong and she definitely has some insecurities that plague her. It’s gotten her into a bit of trouble at times and leaves her anxious and self doubting when things seem to good to be true. Tyler Knight is a great guy and believes in them wholeheartedly. His kindness and love comes off the pages. Cam doesn’t make it easy though and feeling those struggles and anxiety makes you want to reach out and tell her it’s going to be okay and just let go. And that’s what I love about reading a good story – feeling all those ups and downs right along with the characters. And Wasted Words is definitely a good story.
A sensational read!
Some universal truths refuse to be ignored…
Tyler Knight don’t go for girls like Cam Emerson…
But deep down Tyler knows that despite their differences, they’re a match well made…
If only Cam realises that before she loses him forever…
Wow… this is one of the best rom coms I have read in a really long time. Such an enjoyable and emotional journey of life, laughter and love.
If you’re in mood for a journey filled with humour, laughter and love then this read is for you.
Filled with bookworms, humour, matchmaking, trust, fear and love.
Perfect for readers of romantic comedies.
Oh my sweet lord.. this is the ultimate friends-to-lovers novel.
It had that angst, that nervousness (maybe a tad much, but that would so have been me, so I loved it), that newness, and embracing it, that “FINALLY” from all the friends, also the “wow, really, YOU TWO? Well, good on you.”
I absolutely utterly loved this novel.
I felt the Emma theme underneath without it ever feeling like a copy or strict modernization of it. The red thread led through but was never a blue print to copy. Yet, it also didn’t stray too far, claiming one model as its basis but not taking much from it.
Cam and Tyler.. two worlds apart, yet in their funky tiny world they are one and the same and goodness sweet, sexy, funny, goofy perfection.
Ms Hart managed to utterly draw me in, I want to spend some time at Wasted Words, the bar/book store, go bowling with the guys, only to see Tyler’s miserable bowling skills, dress up for singles night and have Cam work her magic on me, and simply hang out. The world created is one so vivid, with so much detail, I could easily mistake it for real.
The story and characters perfectly captured the feel for me, the blunders and soaring heights on the way from turning a beautiful friendship into a flourishing new romantic relationship.
And dear lord, all the side characters, I want to know ALL their stories.
