Pictish Romance not Wholly Satisfying
When I saw this book at my favorite book review site, I was immediately intrigued. As an American of Scottish descent, I will admit that I have a soft spot in my reader’s heart for any book that has to do with Scotland. Of course, I enjoy Scottish historical romance. But no other book that I have seen has been about the Picts. I had enjoyed this author’s other set of books about a set of medieval sisters, so I was curious what this one would be like.
Aside from a few obvious things, like the belief in the supernatural, seers, and the types of dwellings, at its heart, this book didn’t feel very different from medieval Scottish romance novels that I have read. I find myself a little disappointed in that. I thought the story started out very well, the first section with the heroine grieving her brothers and trying to close the circle with her own small ceremony that was poignant and sad. The author did truly show why she was so desired peace. She had already lost so much. Similarly, the first section from the “hero’s” perspective shows precisely the troubled state of his mind as he seeks revenge for his half-sister’s death. Again, we could feel his torment and raw anger.
After such a promising beginning, I didn’t quite like the way that the hero’s character arc went. For much of the book, he was either stupid or dishonorable. Not the way I like my romantic heroes to be. I didn’t like the way he treated the heroine for most of the novel as well, which makes it a hard book for me to truly like. Yes, in the beginning, a romantic couple can struggle, but part of the fun of the romance is to see the thaw, which didn’t happen here until too late for my taste. I did like the heroine. She is a woman of principle, who will accept the consequences of her actions even if she knows they will be dire; no man around her is of a similar principled manner, especially the hero and her father. I’ll admit that I so wanted to like this book because I did enjoy the author’s other books and I like the idea of a romance in Pictish Scotland. but I found it to be disappointing.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
The author did a great job with her characters and storyline. Talor is determined to revenge his late sister who was killed by the Chief of Serpent clan, so he heads out on his own to his former home where the hated Serpent people live. He is soon captured, beaten and tied to the wall of his former home in the bitter cold to freeze to death. Mor is the Chiefs daughter and only living child and who lost her brothers in fighting for her father and her clans new home. However, she is tired of the fighting and just wants piece for her clan but her father will not listen. She decides she is the only one who can save her people from impending war that is sure to come and her first step is to release her enemy from the wall before he dies and by doing so betrays her father. Mor will do whatever is necessary to have peace once and for all even if it means going to the enemy to do it.
This is a great story of how enemy’s come together for the soul purpose of peace for their people no matter the sacrifice.

I loved this exciting story. It sure doesn’t disappoint. I liked how Mor did what was good for her people even though it went against what her father and others wanted. Talor and Mor have so much chemistry and passion. Mor went after what she wanted and didn’t stop till she had it done. Enjoyed it so much I purchased a copy.

Enemies to lover in the medieval time, this is part of a wonderful series that brings to life well developed characters in emotional, dramatic full of action story that I couldn’t put down.
I was amazed that Jayne Castel was able to create so much sympathy and empathy in me as a reader to characters I learned to hate in previous books. The connection between them builds gradually and you get to appreciate both Mor and Talor as complex, interesting and inspiring characters that evolve and go through internal changes.
The story is full of raw emotions like hate, betrayal, revenge, grief, sorrow, lust and they are handled in the most interesting way.
I enjoyed the plot, enjoyed the ending and while reading I didn’t want it to end as I know this is the last story in the trilogy.

Isle of Skye 389 AD
Step into a world of long ago when having power meant death to others and only the strongest survived and gained. Jayne Castel has such a gift with her descriptive words that make you feel you are there with her characters and can see what they are seeing and feeling their emotions.
Mor, a female warrior, has lost her two brothers to war and now only wants peace. Her father, Cathal mac Calum, only wants revenge against their deaths.
Talor mac Donnel was a man consumed with revenge of his own for the death of his half-sister. He saw who cut her down and it had broken something inside him. Cathal mac Calum, the chieftain of the Serpent tribe. He made his way to his home that the Serpents had taken, and there he would kill him, knowing it would also mean his death.
But when Talor tries to kill Cathal, he is thwarted, by Mor and other warriors. Now as he and Mor look at each other, everything begins to change.
I will leave it at that and encourage you to read Mor and Talor’s story which I think may be my favorite, although I feel that in each book I read by this author! Amazing. I read this through Booksprout.
After their island homeland is invaded by a mainland tribe, the four tribes have united to take back their homes. During a particularly bloody battle,Talor Mac Donnel sees his younger sister slain by the invading chief. Driven mad with grief and hell bent on revenge, Talor sets out alone to avenge her death. When his plan fails and he is captured, beaten and left to die,it is Mor, chieftains daughter, who saves him.
Sick of war, Mor, warrior of the Cruthini, seeks a way to end the conflict before more people die . Drawn towards Talor, she frees him in return for his promise not to continue his quest for revenge against her father.
Can two warriors come together to create a lasting peace?

A real page turner. This story was full of so many emotions from loss, vengeance to forgiveness. The characters and story were very well written.
Down and Dirty, Gritty
Yet, there is always hope for a better future in this wonderful ADULT Iron Age Historical Romance and Adventure, set on the Isle of Skye during the 4th century AD!
The characters are ruthless and stoic in their own way, as Talor, a member of the Eagle tribe, and part of the four United Tribes of the island, goes into the den of the Serpent devils to avenge the death of his sister at the hand of their clan chief.
The Serpent tribe has come from the mainland in an attempt to conquer the four tribes of Skye.
The people barely exist in this spare, brutal, harsh environment, yet they are ready to fight to the death to protect their lands and people.
The book is part of a series about the elusive Pictish people, the precursors to the Scots. There are six books but they can be read as stand alone stories. Highly recommend for lovers of ancient historical fiction!

The author has done exhaustive research in order to bring the mysterious Pict culture to life in her fascinating ADULT historical novels.
Book three and the final book in The Pict Wars series a well written story with a very good storyline. The story flowed smoothly from page to page, I am sad to see this series end. Talor mac Donnel is a warrior wanting revenge on Mor’s father of the clan Dun Ringill for his sister’s death , but instead he finds a woman Mor who he could love. “Your feet will bring you to where your heart is … The clans at war are The Serpent,The Eagle, The Wolf, The Stag, and The Boar. I liked the map that accompanied this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book has twists and turns you don’t know what’s happening. will they all get there happily ever after or will it all go wrong. To find out what happens go buy the book. Revenge! Overcome by love!
Talor mac Donnel is consumed with revenge for his little sister. Off he goes to avenge her himself by killing the man who killed her, regardless of the consequences to him—or so he thinks until he is near death. He is thwarted in his murderous spree by the intended victim’s daughter, who is herself grieving the death of both brothers from the most recent bout of warfare. Can peace ever come to Skye with such layers of grief and clan hatred?
Mor, the grieving sister who prevents her father’s murder, is sick of war and the threat of extinction it is bringing to her people. In Talor, she sees courage and strength of purpose she can appreciate, especially when she learns the motivating factor is the death of Talor’s sister at her father’s hand. She takes the first step towards reconciliation, but will Talor cooperate with his blood enemy? Will his people and the clans associated with them trust Mor and accept her help to bring peace? Or will it be war to the death for the clans?
I enjoyed this final book of the Pict Wars, with the H & h both fierce warriors, while being full of grief for their siblings. How they can overcome their grief and prejudices to form a basis for a lasting peace is a most interesting story. I was transported into the story and could not stop reading. It is however, for the more mature reader. I was sorry to have Talor and Mor’s story come to an end.

Every time I see author Jayne Castel has written a new story, I grab it. I know she will take me on an awesome rollercoaster ride through a period of history not many authors venture into. Warrior’s Wrath is the final installment of the Pict Wars trilogy and it doesn’t disappoint. It is the story of Talor, a warrior consumed by grief, hatred and revenge for an invading rival tribe and Mor, his enemy’s warrior daughter sick of the bloodshed, who craves to live in peace. Both have lost loved ones in bloody battles but both are on very different paths. Destiny brings them together. This story grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go til the very end. I found myself thinking about it during my busy day and I couldn’t wait until I could start reading again! I loved it and was only sorry it had to end. I wanted more! Very well done, as usual, Ms Castel!!! I look forward to whatever you have in store for us next! Highly recommended!!!

I loved this series of books about the Picts, and this one especially. Talor is caught up in grief and anger, and tries to kill the leader of the invaders. Who would guess that he would fall in love with the man’s daughter? Or that Mor would fall for him and sacrifice everything for the chance to make peace?
The Picts are so real that you can imagine yourself as part of the tribe, living the day to day life and believing in the ancient religion.

Can Mor bring peace between the Serpents and the Eagle? Mor’s father and their people landed on the Winged Isle to find a new home. But the current occupants did not agree with having their lands taken from them and several years of battles ensued. Now one final battle might be coming, and Mor knows her people won’t survive. They are outnumbered and she is tired of war and losing loved ones. When her father captures Talor, a chieftain’s son who wants revenge for Mor’s father killing his sister, Mor comes up with a plan. She lets Talor go and goes with him to talk to his people to possibly strike a peaceful agreement. But will either side negotiate? There could be another solution if the seers on both sides are to be believed. They have foretold that a union between the Serpent and the Eagle would bring peace. I really liked this book. The characters were well written and the storyline was believable. It’s a book in a series but I didn’t feel as if I needed to read all the books to understand this one.

Jayne knocked this story out of the park or… out of the Isle of Skye! What a great adventure on the way to an HEA. Main characters are both strong in their own right, but very human and relatable. Was very happy to see one of the secondary get his just due! Looking forward to more adventures by this author.
