A shared secret from their past could destroy their future… Northumbria, 1077. In the years following William the Conqueror’s harrying of the North, Lady Alfreya of Tyrswick returns to her family home after seven years in exile. But instead of returning victorious as her dead father had promised, she returns defeated by Baron Sebastian de la Croix, the Norman who rules her lands. To save her … gravely ill brother’s life, Alfreya offers herself hostage to her enemy. As Alfreya gets to know her new husband, she finds he’s not the monster she feared, and their marriage of convenience soon becomes a bond of passion. But Sebastian is a man with a secret–one that could destroy him. As a series of brutal murders haunt their nights, the man who betrayed Alfreya’s father returns claiming to be her betrothed. He has learned Sebastian’s secret and will use it to further his own ambition–using Sebastian’s own family–which will destroy Sebastian and mark him a traitor, and plunge an unprepared England into war with the Scots…

Good, easy to read, Norman Conquest romance. I like this kind of book for night reading. This one waivered between detective and romance. I would have liked the crime detective part and those characters to be developed in next book.
It was sad and with a look at what life was like after William became King I’m glad I didn’t live back then.I recommend it to others because it is a very good read.
I enjoyed the first part of this book more than the ending. The writer gave us a smart, strong, capable heroine, at least in the beginning. But in the end she was made to make so many wrong decisions. In my opinion, she was made too weak and helpless. The woman at the end of the book could not have led men, nor could she have survived without her father. The love story was okay, but the ending, for me was disappointing.
I am always a sucker for a great romantic story. I always still love a happy ending.
Plotline is familiar. Predictable. Good, clear writing.
I loved this sweet romance filled with wonderful characters and a well developed story line.
This author was new to me. Great love story, characters richly written, and non-stop action and intrigue from page one. Lots of insight into life and politics after the takeover of England by William the Conqueror. Want to read more of her books.
A sweeping adventure that travels through Northumbria 1070’s for several years, Warrior’s Surrender is an amazing story. Steeped in history and in depth characters, I was captured by the first few pages that set up the story. Sebastian de la Croix, a young man fighting for his Norman lord, spares a young girl, Lady Alfreya, her injured father and brother when he was part of a raiding party against the Saxons. Now, Sebastian is Baron of Tyrswick, that same place he had spared the lives, as reward from the king for protecting his lands. Alfreya is now a grown woman who has been striving to get back her land with a small band of loyal men. But her efforts are wasted when her small brother becomes ill and her men are starving, so she surrenders to Sebastian who takes her back to Tyrswick. As Sebastian realizes she is the maiden he has thought of for years, her courage and passionate nature captures him.
Sebastian wants to make her his wife and as she has little options, they wed. But as fate often has a hand, they quickly grow to have strong feelings for each other and their life seems balance out. But evil from the past comes forth in the form of a demented knight bent on revenge and securing the lands of Tryswick, while a madman also roams killing innocent girls.
I fell in love with Sebastian and Frey but this story runs the gamut of emotions. Dark forces, adversity, suspense and a little of the supernatural capture the essence of the times and will have you on the edge of your seat to find out what will happen next. Such a strong passionate story of love, honor and good against evil will be remembered for a long time.
