An assassin.
Born of torture and unfathomable loss, Sienna Faremin was forged into a warrior. A weapon to be wielded by the governing council, instilling fear in the hearts of even the bravest of men.
Assassin. White-haired battle sage. Monster. Murderer. Over the years of her service, she’s gained many names, all of which are far kinder than the truth. She kills without mercy, leaves no … mercy, leaves no witnesses, and follows every order because disobeying them would lead to immeasurable consequences.
A renegade.
Sienna’s new target, a man convicted of treason, is just another name to be added to her ever-growing list of victims. That is until she comes face-to-face with him and, for the first time, discovers a reason to not wield her blade.
Faced with an impossible choice, this battle-hardened warrior must decide whether to follow the council’s orders or stand up against those who molded her in a desperate attempt to not lose the last piece of her soul.
The decision is not easily made, though, because tainted pasts cultivate hate between these two enemies. And by the time they figure out they are better together, it might just be too late.
Perfect for fans of The Witcher, From Blood and Ash, and Throne Of Glass, Warrior Of Magick will put you in the center of a war between Humans, Vampires, Werewolves, and something so dark..no one saw it coming.

I was mesmerized by the heroine from the first moment we meet her. She’s strong and powerful, and she doesn’t even know how important she is to the survival of Cambrexia. There are so many different types of characters that we meet throughout the story, and this is just the first book in the series. There’s a mystery afoot, along with love and betrayal, and all of the wonderful things that make a fantasy worth reading. The entire cast of characters is vibrant and captivating from beginning to end. I could not wait to see what happened next in the series.
Warrior of Magick picks up 6 months after the pivotal event in The Last Ward prequel. There are many questions around that pivotal event, who was behind it, and what do they hope to gain. Sienna, a Sage, is told that Dax Ward is the one behind it and she is sent to assassinate him. Soon she finds out that things don’t add up and the race is on to find out the truth.
The characters are just as vibrant as in the prequel and the pace moves quickly. The tone of the story is friendly most of the way, even when people’s heads are being sliced off, but that tone changes toward the end and gets really intense. The ending will leave you hanging. The good thing is that the series is complete, so you don’t have to be left in the dark.
Dark, Complicated World
The author has created a dark, complicated world with all kinds of magic and magical creatures, like mages, werewolves, and even vampires (thankfully not overplayed). The heroine is certainly tough and smart. She is being forced to do things against her will because of a long-standing sentence; her punishment is to be an assassin and spy. They dangled the prospect of freedom from her sentence if she is able to track down and kill one particular man, who the council says performed a heinous slaughter. But she was at that and knows he is not responsible.
The main characters in this book are well drawn and complex, which I always love and fantasy as well as other fiction books. There are some surprising twists and turns and plenty of action to keep the pages turning. The heroine’s head is an interesting one to be in. I’m not a fan of profanity in books, and unfortunately, this book had plenty, including the F-bomb. I wish the author would have stated in the book’s description that this was the case. The book does another cliffhanger, which I’m also not a fan of, but I certainly am interested enough to keep reading about the adventures of these people. The book did also suffer from the dreaded information dump at the beginning, though the author did weave it into the story more artfully than most. Despite these negatives, I did find this to be a satisfying fantasy read.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
It’s dark, it’s gritty, it’s suspensful! The author has done a great job in world building, creating an intricate world of fantasy and paranormal creatures unlike one we’ve seen before. One of my newest favorite series and latest addiction! On to the next book!
Many things are not as they appear, and there are plots against people to get them out of the way. Under the guise of gratitude for Sienna Faremin’s service to the Magick Council as their talented assassin, they offer her freedom. The actual reason for the offer is to make her go after and kill Daxon Ward, accused of the deaths of nearly a thousand Guardians six months prior. But Sienna knows that isn’t true as she has uncovered nothing but lies and deceit as she investigates that attack. Daxon Ward may be a renegade chasing his own vision of justice, but he is not what the Council accuses him of being. He is the stranger she rescued less than a year ago and the Council has lied to her.
When Sienna and Daxon realize something is wrong, they must join forces to uncover the deadly plot and those behind it. If they cannot do so quickly, the killer tracking them will kill them both. Are they ready to take on their deadly foe? Do they have any idea where to start their search?
The twists and turns in the story will keep the reader on edge and following the fast-paced action. The characters are well-depicted, some familiar, and will come alive in this well written book. Grab your copy and enjoy the intense action!

The attraction and chemistry sizzles from the pages and suck you in so deeply until you feel the heat and electricity thrumming through your veins. The characters are authentic and realistic with qualities and traits that blend and flow, transforming into amazing personalities. The scenes are so colorfully descriptive it paints an elaborate backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Outstanding job Jessica, thanks for sharing this fantastic little jewel with us.
This book has some very in-depth world building and I really like the medieval feel. Sienna is a very brave and kick butt heroine. Overall the characters are very well developed and complex and I really liked that element. I was able to really connect with the overall story and feel for this world.
I was not necessarily a fan of the romantic entanglements within this book there are way to many friends with benefits things happening with too many people at the same time and the series could definitely improve by toning that down but otherwise the story is good and plot is excellent.
This book does end on a major cliffhanger so be prepared for that before going in. There is also a prequel that I have not read called The Last Ward. I will be checking that out.
As I have mentioned above this book is amazing! The story-line is unique and has all the paranormal creatures one would expect or want in this type of series. If you love the fantasy you will enjoy this book.
I received this book from Booksprout for an honest review.
3.5 Stars
The story line was great, the character work was terrific and the book had a fairly smooth flow to it. This was a good read and kept me entertained from beginning to end. There were some time line issues along with a few spelling and grammatical errors.

Cool and unique! Sienna is a kick butt heroine! She has been through so much and continues to be treated poorly, but she maintains her strength and her good heart. Love her sass and her honesty. The world building is great too; it’s kind of medieval and very dismal and corrupt. Sienna is being forced to do things against her will, but when she’s tasked with killing Daxon for something she knows he didn’t do, she knows she can’t kill him. I would read the short prequel, The Last Ward, before reading this book to get the story of how Daxon and Sienna met. This book takes place 6,7, or 8 months (all were mentioned as possibilities for how much time has passed; maybe typos) after the events in the prequel. Sienna, Daxon, Zane (Sienna’s “friend”), and Corinne (Daxon’s friend) are all in danger, so they group together to figure out who’s out to kill them; almost all of them have people out to kill them. There’s lots of secrets to be figured out. Loved all the magical elements! Mages, Vamps, Shifters, and Necromancers! Oh and Guardians, but they mostly suck. Lots of cool adventure going on too! I wasn’t a fan of some of the romance elements to the story; I would’ve been fine if Corinne wasn’t around so much and there wasn’t a friends with benefits thing happening with 2 other characters, but I love that Daxon didn’t go there with Corinne. The romance relationships seem a bit too entwined for my liking, but there’s some potential there for some really soul deep connections. There’s a cliffhanger ending, so be prepared for that. I’m super excited for the next book! There’s still lots of story to be told. Super fun read!
Warrior of Magic, Jessica Wayne’s first book in her new Cambrexian Realm Series, does not disappoint! This book starts off with a bang and just keeps on rolling–right to an awesome end that leaves you hanging by your fingertips! The characters are so complex that each one takes time to truly get to know them, yet their development is complete and outstanding. The storyline is fast-paced, complex and well-written; filled with warewolves, vampires, a necromancer, magic, danger and intrigue. I truly can’t wait to see what book two brings us!
This book is amazing, not what I expected. The characters were so complex, it was like peeling an onion slowly. The more I learned about them the more I loved them! At the beginning there were certain characters I didn’t like until you find out more about them. And with everything that they go through it definitely have these characters more redeeming qualities. The story is very unique & filled with fantasy characters we love! Werewolves, vampires, a necromancer, magical & non magical assassins, & humans. There is also the start of a forbidden love story, possibility 2. If you love the fantasy characters I’ve mentioned you have to read this book.
Jessica Wayne has created an intricate world filled with intrigue and suspense. Although Sienna is in a dreadful situation, I enjoyed reading her story and am eagerly looking forward to more. I recommend this novel.
