My review:
I thoroughly enjoyed this Prequel to the Immortal Warriors series. Denna Holm’s writing is excellent, and her characters engaging. The story moves at a great pace as the author takes us from the early poignant scenes with Calem, his wife and daughter to their ultimate betrayal by members of their pack.
Warrior Betrayed is a great introduction to the Immortal Warriors series. We meet Gabriel, the dark-haired, ancient vampire whose home planet is also Laizahlia, and the Umi, with their mysterious powers, who feature in further stories. However, this prequel is standalone, as are all the Immortal Warrior books.
I’d recommend it to those who love fantasy, sci-fi and vampires; and don’t we all love a love story?
A definite 5 Star read.

What This Book Is About
We start with Calem beneath the falls of Umi Creek, watching his daughter and his mate play. Sarya, his mate of almost twenty years. Abriel, his daughter. Abriel was born with thick snow white hair and bright blue eyes.
.
A scream was heard from the creek and Calem leaped up, Abriel had told Sarya not to touch her… the Umi was here! Oh no, this can’t be true, Calem thought, Umi is meant to be just a legend, made up by some of the ancestors. Apparently Abriel had been THE CHOSEN ONE. Both Calem and Sarya watched as the Umi consumed Abriel. When all was done Abriel fell into a deep slumber. Calem didn’t know much about this thing called Umi, he was curious to find out more.
.
Calem finds out Abriel has been taken over by the Ghost Warrior. This thing inside Abriel … speaks .. its speaks to Calem, there are many of them, using Abriel for a vessel of communication.
Quote
“It’s said the white warrior will be able to manipulate fire.”
.
Calem was protective of his daughter, Abriel and there were other people also wanted to get to Abriel with her new found gift, so he promised Sarya that he would attack these people and kill if necessary…. and so here the adventure begins

My Thoughts On This Book
I was immediately drawn in with the friendly hands of Calem. Denna’s words were warming and welcoming, putting me at ease very quickly. I absolutely adored the front cover and right away I felt I was going to be plunged into a sense of adventure. I also absolutely loved the wolves head at the start of each chapter. The concept was highly imaginative although I felt like this story was too short, I would have liked to have read more. To me it stopped abruptly and I was left feeling unsatisfied, however there is a sequel to this, so maybe that might have something to do with it. Although it has been put under “ScienceFiction” I’ve read a few books now to know, that I wouldn’t put this book under that genre, it is more …. FantasyFiction… it does touch on a little on space, but is not as heavy and technical as say, The Martian by Andy Weir. All in all, it was a funny, entertaining read.

he is a loyal warrior and would do anything he was asked if ordered to do until his daughter was born. legends tell of a white wolf, a female born with blue eyes. as she grows there are calls to have her killed as they believe she could mean the end of their tribe. Will he do as the tribe wants? Will he take his daughter and run? See what he will do

The tragic prequel to this author’s Immortal Warriors series. I could empathize with Calem over the awful events that happened to him more so because his own brother and pack members were responsible. Did his people even deserve another chosen to save them? A very emotional introduction, well worth reading!

The journey that Calem is forced on because of the skewed beliefs of his people is filled with heartache beyond anything one should endure. Not even family or friends will help. With such tragedy forced on him from the elders and the council can Calem go through with creating another child to save the same people and universe that destroyed his own world?

Calem is a wolf shapeshifter from the planet Laizahlia, an elder for his pack. His brother Tylor had all but pushed him outside to spend time alone with his mate and daughter; Calem didn’t understand the sad look in his eyes, however.
When his daughter Abriel was born, the king had made them move to the outskirts of the pack. There was a legend about a pure white wolf, a female born with bright blue eyes, called the Ghost Warrior. It was superstition, but apparently his people did believe that Calem’s daughter could eventually bring about the destruction of their people. In the past, the few white females born had all been killed by their pack a short time after birth. And since Calem’s daughter was likewise born with pure white hair and bright blue eyes, she might one day be in danger from her own pack. He moved them further away from the pack as she got older, and had to work harder to protect her as the pack became more hostile in their fear of her. Their only other choice was to move into a vampire city, but they would be expected to “feed” the vampires and his mate, Sarya, wanted no part of that.
When his mate screamed, Calem ran into the water but Sarya said not to touch Abriel. Her eyes were glassy and she had said the Umi had arrived early and needed to make a connection with her. She also said not to touch her and to get out of the water. Finally she looked at her father and said the spirit of the Umi queen needs to be placed inside of her, but because she is too young at 12-years-old, they need to protect her, afraid that the pack will try to kill her as they had done to others before her. As they watched, a silver metal started forming at her toes and had moved upward covering her body. How will this change affect her? Will she survive? Or will she become the Ghost Warrior only through her death?
This was an interesting story, like a fairy tale that holds the reader’s attention since there is no way to know where it will lead. All the other “vessels” who would have evolved into the Umi Queen were destroyed, so we have no hint of what is happening to Abriel. Grab your copy and find out what is happening to her, and what it will mean to her pack!
I received a free copy of this book and i am voluntarily leaving a review. The book was great from the first page to the last. I will be reading more from this author. This is about Calem and his family taking time to spend with each other. But Calem thinks he should be taking care of everyone else Now would be the time to buy the book and find out what happens.
