I invaded her home. Then I saw her.So I conquered both. The Kraaj have no mercy. We kill all in our way. If the humans stood up to us with anything resembling a backbone, we’d mow them down instead of pen them in cages. One woman does. Her name is Janna and she’s a pretty little thing. She tries to stand up for her kind, and so I just take her for myself.I’ll claim her.Train her.Turn her into my … her.
Train her.
Turn her into my property.
But she’s feisty and filled with fire.
If I succeed, this human woman will be a perfect companion and weapon.
If I fail, her fire will end up burning me alive.
Warlord’s Property explores a grittier side of the Athenaverse. It sits in the Conquered Mates series and is a dark romance set on a human planet of Luvon that has fallen to a hostile alien race. It can be read as a standalone, but it still shares the same universe that you’ve found in other books. This book features a dark romance of an alpha male alien warrior, and a human woman. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and HEA guaranteed.

I was granted, via B00|{$P®0UT, an ARC of Tara Starr’s “Warlord’s Property: A Dark Sci-Fi Romance (Conquered Mates Book 1).” I recommend this book to others based upon its own merits. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given!
Until next time… Happy Reading!
1:Hate IT! Didn’t finish; usually only given if/when some contents truly objectionable (i.e. main characters does something awful & gets away w/it!)
2:Don’t like IT! Rating means I felt the writing was poor, editing was bad, I don’t care for characters, or book had some major flaw.
3: I like IT, BUT! There are minor issues… Rating means there’s editing issues, needs character development, is too unrealistic, or has issues– I do not consider it an overall bad rating.
4:I like IT a lot. Great, Solid Story w/ few if any inconsistencies or errors. This is a HIGH Rating, & I rarely give OUT a Higher Rating.
5: I LOVE IT! It’s Spectacular, & I’ll read IT Over & Over Again. Few books Receive this rating from me. HowEver, those that DO become Classics.
I enjoyed reading this book, it’s a fairly quick read. The plot is interesting with some drama, conflict along with twists and turns. The two main characters have a lot to learn about each other and are both amazed at the instant pull and chemistry that they have to each other. I’m looking forward to more of this series.

Fast paced easy read. This is a series starter with good world building. Janna won’t go down without a fight and Kavan finds that fascinating. But there are enemies everywhere. Fast moving, entertaining story. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
This was a wonderful read full of action, intrigue, and steam. The storyline was well written and kept me reading along with characters that kept my interest. I loved their interactions and unique personalities.

Luvon has been invaded and taken over by the Kraaj turning its residents out of their homes and into camps. Janna is a doctor desperately trying to keep people alive when she runs afoul of the guards and imprisoned. Kavan has been appointed District Chief dealing with bureaucrats instead of on his ship where he wants to be. This story is a fast-paced adventure full of betrayal and courage. It’s a darker story in the AthenaVerse but still has humor.
This seemed to start off quite strong and then I’m not sure what happened it just went south.
Janna is a doctor she’s also meant to be feisty and takes no shit she so isn’t but she does seem to like to throw temper tantrums. the planet she lives on is under occupation and during an incident with some guards at one of the refugee camps she finds herself incarcerated.
Finding herself on the auction block as a tribute instead of the physical punishment she expected the district chief kavan instantly wants her for his own so he decides to halt proceedings and keep her for himself as his new mate and companion.
Things started to go downhill from here Janna went from trying to stab Kavan with a butter knife to the next morning sharing breakfast and jumping his bones declaring herself his just out of nowhere. There was no build-up, no internal conflict to this or any sizzling tension here and they just went from enemies to lovers and mates in zero to sixty. The sex scenes were completely over the top like screaming till her throat hurt. The chemistry and bond with this felt off it all felt rushed and very surface superficial. The characters themselves had no depth and I didn’t believe in the connections formed.
The world-building was also not that fleshed out and would just skip huge chunks of time and it was all so very predictable you knew straight away who the villain was it was so obvious. And then the finish with this was all over the place and no one seemed to have any common sense loyalty or personal imitative either they all just follow orders no matter how stupid blindly so no thinking for your self here.
Don’t even get me started on how fast Janna completely forgot about her fellow humans now she’s all loved up with Kavan who also turned out to be quite the disappointment as well. In a nutshell, this was over the top and very very instalove and I still don’t feel like I know anything more than when I started this regarding the main characters mostly due to a complete lack of any background or conversations. I’m disappointed as this originally did hold promise.

Where the story initially focuses on the female role, it automatically transfers to a part where the male lead is central. The story is well built with many steamy bed scenes. The story itself is thrilling with Kavan being threatened in his role as District Chief and a spy trying to cast his mate Janna and him in a bad light. He has to fight to defend his and her life.

Shaking up the neighbors
This book is a fast paced read that kept me enthralled and entertained throughout the book. I really enjoyed the characters, although there were a few who needed to learn to think for themselves and a bad guy who was more than he seemed. The author added a depth of emotion, along with danger and action, that added to the enjoyment and made me anxious to read the next book.
Three and a half stars. This is the first in a new series but takes place in the “Athenaverse” and there are mentions of characters from other books but not a problem if you haven’t read them. The title Warlord’s Property: A Dark SciFi Romance is a misnomer. It was not dark in any way I expected, certainly not any “grittier” than some of the other stories by these authors. Janna would have been a great character except for her inability to know when to keep her mouth shut. She is smart (she is a doctor) and brave. Kaval has the flaws expected from a hot alien male and turns out to be pretty awesome. You will need to overlook the editing errors. If you like smart women and hot men in an exciting adventure, you will like this book.
