A Warlord and a bounty hunter – a thrilling read!
The best laid plans can so easily go awry. But when a Chamele warlord meets his gerel, plans must bend to need. I always love a strong, determined woman – Zeta most certainly is that! Seeing Khan work his way into her heart, gaining her trust, is heartwarming. They’re so well matched: each determined to protect the other, whether needed or not.
In Khan’s words: “You are my gerel, my light, the keeper of my happiness, my hope, everything that is good in the universe.” Meeting the Warlords’ elusive target raises some interesting questions – as yet unanswered. But, I believe it has changed Khan’s awareness. Now I’m eager for another installment in the Chamele Warlords saga!
Hot, steamy alien romance.
2 stars – It was ok
Khan, a Chamele Warlord, has a bounty on his head. He is going to use it to lure out his enemies, except he finds that his bounty hunter is his mate, which makes the mission even more tricky.
So I attempted to read this book twice shortly after it came out in 2019 but I couldn’t really get into it and DNF around 20% each time. Two years later, I have finally finished this book and it was just ok for me. Khan and Zeta relationship has very little build up or depth to it in my opinion. I was really expecting more from Khan’s book because he is one of the Warlords and frequently has hinted in previous books of wanting a mate badly. Sadly, he got his mate but it wasn’t a very emotional relationship in my opinion. This lack of emotion and build up made these two very forgettable characters.
The overall story also wasn’t very exciting either. Khan was trying to use his bounty to catch the bad guy but nothing really comes out of it in this book. The whole story just felt like it was wasted and the relationship between these two didn’t really improve it. This was not my favorite of the series, but I will give the next book a try. Hopefully I will like it better.
Cynthia Sax is one of my favorite authors. Few write sex scenes as varied and steamy as she does! Plus her stories are interesting also, so it’s not just “filler” between sex-capades. In this one, Khan is a Chamele Barbarian Warlord, and while he’s “been around the block” so to speak, with other females, he’s never mated with one. Zeta is a bounty hunter, to earn the money to protect other young females like herself, who, orphaned at young ages and on the street, (metaphorically speaking) had little options besides prostitution to support themselves. Zeta comes from and supports an orphanage that trains new bounty hunters. So she’s determined to get the bounty–no matter how sexy the man she’s supposed to capture may be–or how hard to resist.
To say that the sex scenes are hot doesn’t do them justice. There’s an imaginative difference between ordinary sex, and bonding sex. And there are fighting scenes that are descriptive, but not overly so. Zeta proves herself to be worthy of being a warlord’s mate–and Khan earns himself a place in the ever-changing fantasies of my dreams.
Zeta is one stubborn little bounty hunter… but fiercely devoted. This was hot and strangely very sweet. Khan is a big giant teddy bear that I’d make room for lol.
I can not get enough of these Barbarians called Chamele. They are hot, protective, possessive, and oh so lickable.
Khan is one of three Warlords in the Chamele sector; he rules Chamele 2. A rogue Chamele, Tolui, has been stealing their ships and abducting women and children. Tolui must be stopped but very little is known about him. Khan has a bounty on his head, and he and his brothers, Berke and Murad – the other Chamele Warlords – have devised a plan to capture and kill their enemy. Zeta is the bounty hunter assigned to bringing Khan to Tolui; the credits are desperately needed. There is one big problem though: Zeta is Khan’s gerel, his mate, and that is going to seriously complicate Khan’s plan.
The Chamele Barbarian Warlords series continues with WARLORD’S BOUNTY. I don’t think it’s necessary to have read the previous installment to fully enjoy this book. The romance is great and super steamy; Khan and Zeta are both fearless, protective, and extremely well matched. They are interesting characters, and sparks fly all over the place, in more ways than one. But I think what I liked best in this book is the story itself, the worldbuilding, and what are maybe the bones of the series. I loved the concept of the bounty hunter academy, and the innovative take on bounty hunters.
WARLORD’S BOUNTY has a very strong story; there’s quite a bit of deception involving Khan and Zeta, and I loved how Cynthia Sax handled it. At the beginning, their “relationship” is iffy at best, and although it’s not funny per se, I found myself smiling at their interactions. Later on, it became all about outmanoeuvring each other. The last chapter before the epilogue was epic! There is a fabulously clever twist – although I would have preferred not to need a tissue – and I cannot wait to see how this will affect the rest of the series. It was so exciting and unexpected! Cynthia Sax always delivers and WARLORD’S BOUNTY is right on target!
