Ryker is a paladin. An ancient knight, born to protect those precious few who hold powers over the elements. He is bound by honour, courage and loyalty. But when tragedy strikes he forsakes everything he stands for, vowing never to serve again. He opens his home to other rejected and dishonoured knights … but never his heart. That is, until a sarcastic, sword-wielding, miniature Warden barges … into his life, bringing chaos and mayhem to his carefully ordered world.
Will he forgive himself for past mistakes? Or will old wounds continue to scar his future?
Max is different. She has a strange affinity to nature and finds herself constantly causing disasters wherever she goes. What’s more, strange creatures stalk her every step, their relentless pursuit driving her to the brink of exhaustion. Stumbling upon a gaggle of hot modern-day knights seems too good to be true but she can’t deny they have the answers she’s looking for. Too bad their Captain is a growly, insensitive jerk who insults her every time he opens his gorgeous mouth.
Should she trust her instincts and allow herself to hope for the first time in her life? Or will her fierce independence cause her to lose the one thing she has always craved? A home.

No need for protection
Such a fantastic story! I love the strong female characters, and the strength of the knights moral code, well most of the knights anyway. This book is really a new concept in the PNR realm for me and I can’t wait to read more! There was so much action and intrigue that I was caught up in the story before I knew it. And the romance was just amazing! The ending was a little abrupt, but it was just because I didn’t want it to end. I have so many other books to read, but I have just fallen down the book series rabbit hole and have to read more to see what happens. I need to know!
One of my favorites of all time!!!!! Max is my ‘spirit animal’!
Fantastic paranormal romance. Made me impatient for the next book!!!
I purchased this book from Amazon before author self published this is my review.
A fresh take in the Paranormal genre that any fan of paranormal romance will enjoy.
Ancient knights and the wardens they protect will introduce you to a world like no other.
Meet the seven knights and the spunky Max an unknown in their world that shakes things up
Warden (Elemental Paladins, #1) had me in hysterics. Max, our main kick-ass chick, has a lot of attitude and spunk, and when I say a lot, I do mean A LOT! She’ll have you crying in laughter. My sister literally walked into my room and asked, ‘good book huh?’ because she could hear my hilarity from the other side of the house.
This story is the perfect example for “do not judge a book by its cover”. I mean c’mon, at least 80% of the people reading this review, or running across this book, can agree that the thing is hideous. It doesn’t look much better on paperback either, that I’ll tell you. But once you open it up, the not-so-appealing thoughts of that monstrosity flies right out the window as Montana Ash takes you on a journey full of self-discovery, friendship, and lots and lots of hot men.
My only complaint is Ryker’s oh-so-fast personality switch. I know the circumstances were.. different, but I would have liked to see a little more character development instead of the complete 180 we witnessed towards the end. I will admit that I slowly fell in love with the entire group though. The chemistry they all have is admirable, and definitely allows you to laugh often at their ridiculousness.
Thank you, Montana Ash, for the amazing starter! I can’t wait to move on to Book 2.
This was a debut novel? Wow I’m impressed. I love that the author is Aussie and that she had her characters and story line sound typically Aussie. Great start to a series with Wardens and Paladins – you can read the book to find out what that means. I love the kick arse little heroine and her connection with her merry crew of hot dudes. I think I chuckled through most of the book at the banter between them all. Meatsicle!!! bahahaha
The ending though…god I hate cliff hangers Montana, you’re so lucky I can read book 2 now before I hunt you down.
2nd read: 2020
1st read : 2017
‘Warden’ is a great start of a new paranormal series . I found it original and very interesting. The storyline was good and kept my interest until the end! This paranormal series is not about vampires, demons or angels but it’s about wardens and paladins. The wardens are the caretakers of their domain, you have 7 domains, earth, fire, water, beast, air, life and death. Then you have the paladins, they are the warriors and also the energy providers of the wardens. I don’t want to tell too much about the story because one of the things that I loved about this story were the little discoveries and mysteries that were revealed chapter after chapter.
What I can tell you is that Max is a good-hearted but crazy woman. She just says what she wants to say, she has totally no filter. But she can also be very sweet and loveable. Ryker is a total alpha man, cynical, scarred outside and inside but also with a good heart.
But this story isn’t only about the couple, there’s also the people around them, who are also very much a part of the story. I really loved the humor in his story, the things that Max said were sometimes outrageous but I just love that about her. ‘Warden’ is also a story about friendship, broken souls, loyalty, taking care of the nature and the people around you, of accepting a person just like they are. The story is told from both POV’s.
Although this story ended without a cliffhanger for the romance, this is a series and the journey isn’t finished, it continues in the second book.
This book was recommended to me so thought id give it a try. I was reading it and got to chapter 15 and couldn’t believe i was already up to chapter 15 lol. In the beginning of the book i must admit i was very bored with it but decided to continue on and im glad i did because i ended up enjoyin the book .
