Absolutely wow, just sign me up all for all of Samantha Young’s adult paranormal books. What a delight it was to read War of Hearts. After vampires, I love shifter reads, they’re quickly becoming one of my kryptonites. And the wolves will always be one of my favorites.
Conall and Thea rank up pretty high on my favorite couple in the paranormal world. I absolutely loved the dynamics between the two, both powerful characters and the way that Samantha wrote their story will definitely be a memorable one for me.
I like that Conall had conflicting views about Thea, which were completely understanding. As the alpha of his pack and love for his sister, he’d do anything for her especially since her days are limited. If bringing in Thea was the key to cure her, he’d do it, no questions ask. But as soon as he meets Thea, the more he’s around her, he’s starting to piece things together of her true character. She’s not quite the monster that she was made out to be.
I enjoyed seeing his internal struggle whenever it came to Thea and that he eventually gave into trust and it was game over for him.
Thea was such a intriguing heroine and I loved her completely. There was something about Conall that she couldn’t quite wrap her mind around. She should fear him, but all her instincts kept telling her the opposite. I loved that she was strong both physically and mentally, good luck to anyone who’d try to take her on in a fight.
These two together was absolutely EVERYTHING. The slow burn between was fitting to their story and I don’t think I would have wanted it any other way.
War of Hearts easily makes my 2019 favorites and I’m begging for more! It looks like we’ll get more and I can’t wait to read it.
Samantha weaved such an intricate and original story. I just finished this phenomenal tale and I can’t wait to read it again.

Samantha Young
I love it when an author tries something new and it turns out to be amazing and readers like me are the ones to reap the rewards! Samantha Young dove into the paranormal romance genre and based on this series starter alone, she appears to be doing swimmingly well. She’s added her own creative spin to the werewolf shifter trope and has written the sort of read that’s as entertaining as it is intriguing. I thoroughly enjoyed Conall and Thea’s story, but I’m also curious as to what more awaits readers in this paranormal world that Young has crafted, which is exactly how a well-written opening salvo in a new series should be. Young allowed her main characters to take their time, laying a foundation with rich back stories that guarantee Conall and Thea clashing and having immediate mistrust, so that we see them struggling to make sense of what they assume to be true and the reality that’s before them once they’re together. While this may be a slow burn, it is far from boring, and Young has certainly set the bar high for herself with as far as this new series is concerned. I’m giving War of Hearts five stars.
Absolutely fantastic. It’s been a while since I have read a really good PNR. Thea has had such a hard life and has so many well earned trust issues. Conall has a lot riding on finding Thea and bringing her to Scotland. Such a great story with many twists and a marvelous HEA!. I hope S. Young makes this a series with some of the great side characters.
Thea has been on the run for the last 6 years but can you outrun Conall? Conall makes a deal with Ashford to bring Thea to him in exchange to heal his sister. Soon Conall realizes Thea is not the enemy but Ashford is. Conall now has to earn Thea’s trust and make keep her by his side. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down!
This is the first paranormal romance novel that I have read in a very long time that totally absorbed me and held me hostage to it’s narrative. It’s plot, setting and it’s characters were outstandingly strong, well developed and so mindblowingly breathtaking that I was left bewildered by the writing talents of this author. The book itself is something out of the usual, it’s a little out of the box even for a paranormal romance. This is not just your usual supernatural hero meets his heroine kind of romance, oh no, it’s a thriller, it’s a little dark, and it even has the qualities of a Who Done It murder mystery story.
The story is set around Conall MacLennan alpha Chief of Clan MacLennan and Thea Quinn, it takes them on a wild trek around Europe, where upon meeting all kinds of supernaturals on their journey they uncover things they both never really knew existed while at the same time they discover and explore their attraction to each other.
I totally fell in love with Conall and Thea, they are both such strong and believable characters with a personality that was so easy to connect with. Their relationship is one full of heat and fiery passion that quickly becomes a physical one once they learn to trust in each other, and once that happens boy does that passion start to set the world on fire. Their story touches upon some very deep emotions that held me in it’s grasp, and it made my heart really hurt for both Conall and Thea.
I am in awe of the way that this author knows how to bring out all the angst and drama in her stories. She is a master at telling a tale that will take you along for the ride with her characters and make you live out in your mind all the thrills, excitement and even the intense pleasure and pain that she puts them all through.
I can’t even begin to tell you enough how much I loved Conall and Thea’s story. The writing in this book was absolutely superb, it was well put together and cleverly thought out. I was utterly spellbound from start to finish!

This was my first paranormal romance with S. Young, and I’m not usually a huge fan of this genre, but when it comes to this author, I just can’t resist, I gave it a try, and I wasn’t disappointed!!
I enjoyed this book for so many reasons: a strong heroin, an ultra-alpha male character, beautiful landscapes, scorching chemistry, and an epic love story.
The supporting characters are really compelling too, and the pace was perfect.
I had an amazing weekend reading it.
I need more of this, S. Young!

Great debut for S. Young into the paranormal romance genre. Great story about Thea and Conall. Thea being a woman she has been running for years. Connan is the alpha of the strong werewolves the Clan MacLennan. He gets a deal to save his terminally ill sister in exchange for hunting a fugitive, he is the best tracker so he finds Thea and things changed for them both. The world building is amazing, it’s a full action packed romance novel that will keep you reading until the end. I love PNR and this book is a 5 star read for me.
War of Hearts was good, a bit slow in parts but I enjoyed it. It’s packed with secrets, lies, betrayal and twists that I saw coming but it didn’t ruin my overall enjoyment of the story. I loved the hero and heroine. Conall is a grumpy alpha who is super protective of those he loves. Thea is a fierce, feisty badass. I loved their journey. It was one of self discovery, love and a host of other things. I’m looking forward to where their journey takes them next. I definitely recommend this book.

I’ve not read any supernatural genres for a good few months, and what a story I chose to end my drought. I did not want this story to end. I’m still running through everything that happened in my head. What a fantastic, entertaining and addictive read. Alpha werewolf Conall MacLennan (what a hero) is willing to do whatever it takes to save his sister, so when he’s approached by a rich cultural American, Jasper Ashforth, to hunt down and possibly bring to justice a dangerous thief and murderer, Thea Quinn, he jumps at the chance. Thea has been on the run from Ashforth for six years, she’s not going down without a fight, she’ll use everything in her supernatural arsenal to fight the hunky werewolf to avoid becoming Ashforth’s lab rat again. Action, drama, romance, and a roller coaster ride through Europe in this supernatural romantic thriller. I loved, loved, loved Conall, I adored Thea, add in the mix all the supernaturals, both good and bad, and I was in my element. Brilliant writing and a completely addictive read with a beautiful backdrop in Scotland. Book 2 cannot come fast enough, I’m impatient to see which characters will lead. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.
So S. Young is new to me and honestly, I was a little apprehensive going in… a new author, a sub-genre I don’t normally read all that much. I was pleasantly surprised and glad I gave it a chance and apparently this is her first PNR, and well she nailed it flawlessly. I was captivated from page one, all the way through till the last page.
I absolutely loved Thea, she was definitely one of a kind that’s for sure and her and Conall’s relationship as they met and the book progresses, continues to keep my attention and keep me flipping pages, I even loved Ashworth… I think the characters were perfectly written and they all bounced off of each other.. I’ll admit, I didn’t expect to like this… but I wanted to crawl out of my comfort zone and try something and I’m glad I did…
5 stars!
What a great story. It was full of adventure and it was simply wonderful. I definitely recommend this book and this author.
War of Hearts was everything I was looking for and more! I was anticipating this from the time it was announced and could not contend my excitement when I finally got it. It was gripping. It was adventurous. It was extraordinary!
Thea on the run and hiding was caught by Conall, alpha of one of the strongest packs in the world, and was to be brought to someone who was going to give Conall the one this he desired the most- his sister’s life back. He would do anything for her and a murderous vixen was not going to get in his way.
Catching Thea was easy but keeping her was harder. She did not make it easy. Every action of hers contradicted what he was told about her. She was nothing like he imagined. She was one of the most powerful people he has met but they had no clue as to what she is. Every day into their journey brought them closer together and closer to the truth. Resisting each other became increasingly difficult.
Theo was a totally Queen. I absolutely loved her! She is my spirit animal. She did not make it easy for Conall to hold onto her. They were the perfect enemies to lovers. Their relationship was not rushed and the fact that it slowly developed, made me love it all the more. Realistically speaking, it happened only within a few days but not so early in the book. I hate when characters hook up within the first couple of chapters. Especially when it’s this kind of trope. I want the hate. I want sexual tension. I want the remorse. I want to brought to tears with how frustrated the hero makes me. And this book did exactly that. I lost track on how much I cried while reading this book. Thea’s life brought me to tears and read the book all the more faster to get to the part where Conall discovers the truth.
I will definitely be reading this book again in the near future. I don’t think I can get enough of it. Its like Slumber (one of my most ultimate favorite books ever!) all over again.
As you guys know, I read a little bit of every genre but fantasy is always highest on my list. I love the escape, the other worlds, the writing. It takes a special author to write an incredible fantasy novel and Samantha Young is just that.
This was incredible. Samantha somehow managed to write a book packed full of information and keep it entirely engaging. From the first page to the last I was hooked.
Thea has no idea what she is, she’s been on the run for six years and she has no plans on stopping. She does what she has to do to survive, to hide. Until Conall, the most powerful Alpha werewolf, is sent to track her. Her blood is the key to saving his beloved sisters life.
He expects a murderer, a liar, a dishonorable woman but what he finds is none of that. A woman who’s been broken almost beyond repair, fighting for her life, confused, alone, and tired.
Then begins the start is a beautiful love story full of badass fight scenes, car chases, vampires, werewolves, a dangerous enemy, and so so many risks.
War of Hearts was angsty, sexy, and thrilling. I’m still in awe of it as I read this, desperately hoping that Samantha writes more in this world because she was BRILLIANT.
Some of the very best writing, the world building was exquisite, the characters had depth and you fell immediately for them.
This was SO FUCKING GOOD.
“Truth conquers, Thea.” His wolf eyes gleamed with satisfaction. “And this is our truth.”
4.5 stars!
S. Young is the penname of one of my favourite authors, Samantha Young, and I was so freaking excited when I heard that she was writing a paranormal romance. With this book she has created a well-developed paranormal world, and then given us two fantastic characters, heaps of action, excitement and intrigue, fun and snarky banter, and a chemistry-filled, intense and passionate romance. I loved it!
Thea Quinn is a young woman who possesses supernatural powers. She has no idea why, or what she is, but she’s fast, strong, and virtually indestructible. As a child her abilities made her the target of a madman and she lived in hell for years. But she escaped and has been on the run for six years, trying her best to blend in and stay below the radar.
Conall MacLennon is the alpha of a small but powerful pack of werewolves, the last in Scotland. Strong and fierce, he is everything that an alpha should be, and the protection and safety of his pack and family is the most important thing in the world to him. In addition to all of that alpha-ness, he is also one of the best trackers in the world, and he is approached by a man asking him to find a dangerous fugitive – a supernatural of unknown origin whose blood has the power to cure Conall’s dying sister. Desperate to save his beloved sister’s life, he has no choice but to accept, and so he begins his hunt for Thea Quinn.
Conall finds Thea in Eastern Europe. For days they play a game of cat and mouse as Conall finds his prey only for her to slip free of him. But when it becomes clear that they are also being pursued by a mysterious outside force, they agree to team up to protect each other. It’s a slow road to trust between them, with lots of snark, banter, and more than one violent encounter, but as they begin to open up about themselves and their situations, secrets are revealed that will change everything. And with them now learning to trust each other, feelings soon follow.
I loved this romance! It’s fast and intense, as most paranormal romances are, but the realisation of their attraction and all that they are feeling are beautifully developed.
Who would hold her when he had to let go? And why did the thought of Thea alone, without him, make him want to tear the world apart for its cruelty?
We get to feel it all along with them, and I was fanning myself at all the passionate hotness…
Conall kissed her, softly, sweetly, and then whispered against her lips, “Dinnae hold back with me, lass. I can take everything you’ve got.”
… and was in a world of swoon as Conall and Thea fell for each other so completely.
“My love for you is infinite”
But in order to save his sister, Conall has to hand Thea over to the man who tormented her so brutally. How can he choose between his love and his family? How does Thea’s powers play into it all, and what will happen when they discover the truth of who and what she really is?
It’s an exciting ride from start to finish with lots of action and excitement, and a whole lot of feels. Thea and Conall are absolutely fabulous characters, I love their dynamic, the way they play off against each other, their entertaining power plays (both in and out of the bedroom) and the openness and rawness of all that they are feeling for each other.
“A wolf is only as strong as his heart, and my heart belongs completely to you. So who really has the power here?”
The story moves at a great pace with lots of twists and turns along the way and I was captivated the whole way through. There’s a wonderfully developed cast of side characters – both good and evil – who bring so much to the story, and though this book is currently a standalone, there is definitely scope to extend it into a series, and I’d love to explore more of this world.
Sam Young has done a great job with this one. I loved it!
What an awesome paranormal romance by S. Young (Samantha Young)! I have not read much by the author, but I am a huge fan of the PNR genre and this book definitely kept my interest and gets a huge 4.5 outta 5 star rating from me!
I do not want to showcase any spoilers, but Thea is on the run and in a LOT of trouble. Connall is the alpha of his pack and would do anything to save his sister, so when he is told to track down Thea, this is when everything starts to go down and BOY FREAKING DOES IT!
All in all this book was engaging, action packed, super steamy, and gives you all the feels. There are moments you want to be so excited with joy and then others that your heart is just breaking. The author gives you just the right amount of information at the right time to not only keep your interest, but also lay down the story line. If you like paranormal/supernatural romances with shifters (and more) I 100% recommend checking out this book- you will not be disappointed!
PS: Thank you to Samantha and Social Butterfly PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!
Wow, S. Young pulled me right into the world of paranormal in this paranormal romance story. I could not put this book done. Conall is a strong, alpha, with a caring side for those he loves. As well as he will have you swooning over him. Thea is a strong, independent woman who is trying to survive and learn about who she is. Theo and Conall meet and try to deny the instant attraction, but have set plans in place. The banter and moments of chemistry are intense and have you wanting them to give in. Theo and Conall take you on a crazy ride filled with adventure, a bit of mystery that you will want answers to, and heartfelt moments that will make you want to shake some sense into these characters. This was a fantastic read and will leave you wanting more of these characters! Definitely read this book!
4.5 stars. Wow. This book was really good! I have been a fan of Samantha Young’s contemporary romance, so I was looking forward to this foray into the paranormal genre. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this book just as much, if not more than her contemporaries! This book is one of the best paranormal romances I have ever read.
War of Hearts is Thea and Conall’s book. Thea is on the run from a bad past, constantly hiding and unsure of who or what she really is. She has powers that she can not explain or fully control and an evil man is out to get her. Conall is a Scottish werewolf chief. His younger sister is dying of a lycanthropic disease. He is approached by a mysterious businessman who offers him a cure for his sister in exchange for tracking Thea and bringing her to him. He is told that Thea is a dangerous killer, but once he finds her, Conall soon sees that is not true. As they spend time together, while Conall is traveling to bring her back, they find they have a strong connection and attraction. Nothing is how it seemed. They soon find themselves fighting an evil force together, and falling in love.
I loved Conall and Thea. They were both strong, interesting characters and made a great match. The world building is very good and has great potential for more stories in the future. I loved the story, the characters and the romance. There is suspenseful, action filled moments, some sexy ones and some moments of humor. I was engrossed in War of Hearts and could not put it down. Just writing this review makes me want to do a reread.
Overall, I loved this book and I really hope it is continued into a series!
I have to admit that I was heading into this world clueless. Paranormal ia not my cup of tea. But this is Samantha we are talking about. Of course I need to read it. She is my favorite author after all!
I love Scotland. This book is mainly based there and I love it. Conall is amazing. Loving. Caring. Strong. Righteous. Protective. Alpha male!
Thea is like a lost little girl. Which she really is. But she is also strong and stubborn. Also confused. She doesn’t know what she is and what her strenghts are..
Book is amazing and I really loved it.
I received an earc from the author and am voluntarilly leaving an honest review.
4.5 Stars!
Thea Quinn is a 25 yr. old woman who looked like a perfectly normal human, but knew she was different. She’d had otherworldly abilities for as long as she could remember, but still had no clue what she was. She’d long ago given up the dream of having anything more, and for the last six years she’d been alone hiding in the shadows. Others seeking power wanted to harm her, so her life was about running, surviving, and trying not to draw attention to herself. She relied on her supernatural instincts, almost like a sixth sense to warn her of danger. Even though she was almost indestructible, she had to hide her gifts from the world and trusted no one.
Conall MacLennan is the loyal, honorable alpha of the last werewolf pack in Scotland. Clan MacLennan were his family and as their leader it was his responsibility to protect and command the people and land. In the Scottish Highlands, there was no place more beautiful than the majestic landscape of Loch Torridon. It had always been his haven.
Conall’s sister is ill, and means everything to him. When a businessman approaches him with a cure in exchange for his unique tracking ability, he makes a deal he can’t break. He must find and retrieve a dangerous woman named Thea Quinn. Heading to her last known whereabouts, he soon learns this feisty woman is not going to be a willing captive.
Thea comes face to face with a massive Scottish wolf named Conall who is ruthless, intimidating, and one of the biggest men she’s ever seen. Everything about him screamed warrior and danger. She has no plans on letting him deliver her to her enemy, and clashes repeatedly with the belligerent, controlling wolf. As she attempts to evade him, outside forces intervene, and they have no choice but to rely on one another for survival. On their journey, things gradually begin to change between them as a connection forms. They try to ignore their growing attraction because it’s a complication neither needs. The thick tension between them soon becomes unbearable. Feelings are overwhelming, and they can no longer resist the fire between them. When they are suddenly in too deep, will they choose love, or to walk away?
War of Hearts (A True Immortality Novel) by Samantha Young is a standalone paranormal romance written under her pen name S. Young. It’s the authors debut into adult paranormal and it’s fantastic! It’s a steamy enemies to lovers story set in the supernatural world. It has vampires, werewolves, secrets, lies, mystery, drama, action, excitement, and suspense. I love PNR books, and this is one of my favorites. I fell hard for this sexy, alpha wolf with a heart of gold. I hope we also get a book for Callie & James!
