War of Hearts by S. Young is exciting, passionate and thrilling. From the very beginning, the chase was on. There was intrigue and mystery that lasted throughout the book and had me frantic to know more. The pace throughout the book was fast although there is one point the book where it lags a little as it explains some history.
I absolutely LOVED the fact that Thea was such a powerful female. In fact, she is one of the strongest female leads’ that I’ve ever read. Her strength and savvy abound. She fought hard for everything she had: Her safety, her protection and her life.
I enjoyed seeing her physical strength as well as her strength of character. I also liked getting a glimpse of her vulnerability later on in the book. For me, it made her such a memorable and amazing character.
Connell, my GAWD . I could hear his brogue and the way he said “lass”. Not to mention that he is a werewolf and a pure alpha male! I’ve never wanted a Scottsman more!
The action and suspense will keep you at the edge of your seat. The tension and anticipation are electric.
The world this author has created is unique, with its own spin. I really was taken in by the story, the plot and its characters. I can’t wait for what’s next!
Thea has been on the run for several years. She has started a new life but is not really living. She flees from place to place hoping to escape her past that just keeps finding her. This does not give her a chance to put down roots or even to make friends or to fall in love. She in fact has given up on it.
Conall is the laird of clan MacLennan. He is also one of the most powerful werewolves around. What he cannot do however is save his sister from a wasting werewolf disease. So, when a human hunts him down and asks for his help to find a murderer in exchange for a cure that will help his beloved sister, he is all for it. The catch? If he does not return the murderer to him, he will take his sister’s life in exchange.
What he does not understand is that Thea is not who and what he thinks she is. When he catches up with Thea, he realizes she is so much more. But what can come of them when he must eventually exchange Thea’s life for that of his sister’s?
I received an ARC via NetGalley of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my first read of this author and I have to say I was impressed there is plenty of action and drama to keep the story flowing along at a great pace and the attraction between Thea and Connall is intense.
Thea doesn’t know what she is but she knows that she is something other than human and now she is on the run with someone chasing her Connall MacLennan, Alpha and Chief of Clan MacLennan and leader of the last werewolf pack in Scotland is hot on her trail as he has been commissioned to catch her. The only thing is that he is beginning to doubt the information that he is tracking a killer As he and Thea spend more time together and learn to trust one another more questions will be asked than are answered. Do they have a future together You will have to read to see
I’m sitting here applauding Samantha Young for War of Hearts. This was just a book I didn’t know was missing in my life. For all you paranormal romance lovers out there, you need to read this book. This is a book to sink your teeth in. I for one couldn’t walk away from this one for anything. I love Thea. She is so strong and a fighter. You can call her a survivor of unknown origin. To find out who and what Thea is you need to read this and fall in love with her as I did. Then there is Conall. You are going to love this Alpha and Chief pack leader of the last Scottland werewolf pack. He is strong and determined to do what it takes to heal his sister. He has these extra abilities that make him stand out. And when it comes to tracking Thea nothing will stop him. Thea and Conall have this chemistry that you will love. The fight between them is just some amazing explosive foreplay into who and what Conall and Thea are. I couldn’t get enough of this one. This is a paranormal must read and needs to be clicked today
Having read several of this author’s books, I already knew she had talent, folks. War of Hearts lived up to those expectations and then some. I absolutely loved Thea’s strong, resilient, self sacrificing, alpha warrior type character and her special abilities. Throw in the fact Conall was amazing as the conflicted hero, who turns into one committed, won’t be deterred love interest, and I’m not sure I really need to say a whole lot more. Other than the writing flowed, and I enjoyed every single second with this main couple.
There are so many different sides and emotions to this story I definitely stayed riveted and engaged. Here’s a few that stand out: steely determination, betrayal, realization, understanding, self-sacrifice, and, most importantly, a soul mate connection that can’t be denied.
Even if you aren’t into supernatural/wolf shifter themed reads, you get here a great adversaries to lovers romantic tale. But better brace yourself for lots of action packed drama and a big twist that throws a huge advantage to one person yet ultimately takes another unexpected turn towards the end. I must say I had mixed feelings about the change of circumstances.
Well, my war with words in trying to give you an inkling of what you get here without any spoilers has come to an end. Here’s to hoping you will enjoy this book as much as I did. I can’t wait to walk through the door that was left open regarding a sub-character who is going to lead the way to another sequel in this paranormal series.
Title: War of Hearts, Author: S. Young (Samantha Young), Pages: 447, paranormal, stand-alone but part of new series, great author, alpha wolf shifter hero, warrior tough heroine, both have a soft/sweeter side to them, some graphic werewolf/vampire violence.
(I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher/NetGalley.)
This is Samantha debut adult paranormal book under the pen name S. Young. I really enjoyed this one. It had vampires, werewolves, and something else (which I won’t say because it will be spoilery). It was a good page-turner and same goes with the world building. So many action scenes. I’m glad this is a standalone, but I’m also looking forward to others in this series when Samantha gets to them hopefully. She sort of teases us with who the next book will be about. Love this cover.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
A new to me author. Even better she is a fellow Scot!
What a great start to what I really hope will be long series! There is a great mix of action/adventure, PNR and there is even some light hearted banter! Thea is truly mysterious as even she doesn’t really know what she is or the extent of her powers. She has been on the run so long, she no longer knows who she can trust.
Conall knows there is something hinky to the offer made by the wealthy American. But desperate Alpha shifters do what they must to save their sisters. Conall may be big and growly but that covers a totally gooey centre of a big old teddy bear.
I just love that the Scottish characters “sound right” in my head. No matter how well researched sometimes non-Scots just can’t get the pacing of the language right or use the wrong slang words for the area for example. Thea and Conall can’t understand their connection but he makes her feel safe and she’ll take a lot on face value for that feeling. Conall feels horrible that he is going to hand Thea over to a man that he discovers has abused her most of her young adult life.
I truly hope that this world expands. Maybe with some across the pond escapades with new allies? I really want to see more of Caledonia and James, they were like #couplegoals even though they were technically not a couple!
**I received a copy of War of Hearts from Social Butterfly PR and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.**
War of Hearts by S. Young is the first in what I hope will be several more featuring the McLennan Pack. This book had me wrapped into its story from the first page until the end and I truly didn’t want it to end. If I hadn’t kept falling asleep at night I would’ve had finished it sooner. My rating is 5 STARS and if I could give it 50 stars I would!!!
Thea Quinn has been on the run for 6 years from the one person that shouldn’t have taken advantage of her healing blood. He convinces Conall to find her because he knows that his sister needs a miracle or she will die. Once he finds Thea they’ll be on the run from vampires and werewolves across Europe but even though she’ll try multiple times to flee from Conall )Who will find her) before they both realize that there is something more going on and it will be shocker that will make you go hmm now things are coming started to come together. But it will take both of Con and Thea to get to the truth of what she is and why everyone wants her dead or alive.
Conall McLennan has a talent for finding people but when Jasper Ashford offers him Thea’s blood as a cure for his sister, Callie will he take the job? Knowing that Ashford will keep Callie and James as collateral send Conall to Europe to find Thea. When the truth is revealed both of them will be fighting for their lives and Conall will make a decision to save her that will change her life forever. When he realizes that during the final epic ending choosing to save her will be better than losing her forever.
I loved this book and I know that you’ll love it as much as I did.

5 stars!
It has been a long time since I have read a paranormal romance. I used to absolutely love them, but somewhere along the way I lost my taste for them, until now. Wow Samantha Young kills it with this one! It is original, captivating, and oh so H-O-T. I cannot wait for more. Samantha please bring on all the paranormal you can throw at me. Love!
Wow, a total 6 star read for me. Definitely one of my top reads of 2019. This book was everything I wanted and more, starting off with an enemies to lovers sort of theme, I enjoyed the angst and misunderstandings. I loved the slowish burn of the chemistry between Thea and Conall and the storyline had me hooked right from the get go. The action is fast paced and though the storyline was definitely complex, I didn’t find it hard to follow like in some PNR books. Overall, such a fantastic read and I sincerely hope we see more of this series!
War of Hearts is Samantha Young’s first adult paranormal romance (PNR) novel written under the name S. Young. The paranormal romance genre has a special place in my heart, and especially books that are about shifters/werewolves. This is one of the genres that I am very critical of, and I want the story to be a perfect blend of action, romance, and paranormal events. I think the author did a pretty good job in creating a story that had all the before mentioned elements. I especially loved the mysterious aspect of the main character Thea Quinn not knowing what she is. While she is running away from an evil and dangerous man, she is now also being hunted by Conall MacLennan, Alpha and Chief of Clan MacLennan, the last werewolf pack in Scotland, who was hired by this man. Conall is a true alpha who would do anything for his pack, and especially his immediate family.
I loved how action-packed this book was, and I loved the dynamic between the two main characters Thea and Conall. Thea doesn’t trust easily and has no reason to do so with Conall, however she also doesn’t feel in danger when she is around him. I enjoyed the pace of how their relationship developed. It wasn’t rushed, and the author took her time for the characters to trust and get to know each other. Thea has gone through so much in her life, and I just loved how strong she was. She didn’t give up and is definitely one of my favorite characters in PNR. I love the world S. Young has created for this book, it was very well-thought-out and original. So I really hope for more books set in this world. I recommend this book to any reader who love paranormal romances. I would also recommend it to readers who haven’t read this genre before, because you should always try to read a genre you haven’t before, because who knows, you may find a new favorite.
“Yet sometimes being strong wasn’t about weathering storms alone. Sometimes being strong was admitting you needed someone.”
I absolutely loved this story! Brilliantly written with such vibrant details and outstanding characters that will burrow into your heart. I felt as though I was living in this fantastical world. I could feel everything, all the pain, the hurt, the anguish, fear, trepidation, and love. This story is action packed and will keep you glued to the pages.
Conall and Thea have such an intense connection, you can feel it from the moment they meet. Defenses are high, trust is difficult, and the amount of love is overwhelming. Their journey is filled with obstacles and you will not be able to put down this amazing, emotional, beautiful story that will hold you captivated from start to end. Absolutely fantastic!
“My love for you is infinite, Thea Quinn.”
