From the bestselling author of ‘Unrelenting’ comes the heartbreaking first-in-series, War Girls: Ursula, a harrowing tale of courage and conscience, love and survival under the Third Reich.
In Berlin, 1943, compassion is a crime.
Newlywed Ursula Hermann is a simple woman, wanting nothing more than an end to the war and the return of her husband from the Russian front.
But some things are not … and the return of her husband from the Russian front.
But some things are not meant to be.
The authorities determine that Ursula’s contribution to the war effort is to guard a prison for undesirables and political prisoners.
Then, the unthinkable happens. A prisoner, Royal Air Force pilot Tom Westlake escapes, and Ursula looks the other way. If her single act of mercy is discovered, her life is forfeit.
When the injured airman returns, seeking her help, it is her opportunity to turn over the enemy and save herself from destruction. In a world where right has become wrong, and wrong has become right, Ursula must make a decision: obey the fatherland, or follow her conscience.

Enjoy her books well written
This is a book about courageous people during WWII who were willing to sacrifice everything, even their lives, for others. Excellent read.
Loved this book, waiting for special prices on 2 nd and 3rd books
Interesting. I would continue the series.
A realistic view of war from an average citizen who was forced by her conscience to re-evaluate her idea of the information about the war her country waged And what she could do to promote her moral ideals in view of what she was experiencing in her city.
Well written and very interesting.
Wonderful insight into daily life under the Nazi regime in Germany.
I did not like the ending. It left you hanging. No conclusion
love historical fiction especially about mid 20th century and WWII. This author does a good job and keeps your interest peaked.
Good descriptives of what life might have been like in Nazi Germany. Intrigued me enough that I will probably read next in series.
During WWII the German people were affected by war in many ways. Not all of them were Nazi sympathizers, yet they did what they were told to do.
This is a story of a mother and her 3 daughters, the father and son are away fighting for Germany. The oldest daughter, Ursula, works in a prison, second oldest, Anna, is a nurse, and the youngest, Lotte (17) is away at an aunt’s house helping with her 5 young cousins. When I think of WWII I think of the Nazis and all the terrible things they did, but I don’t really think about the German people and their struggles during the war. This book was eye opening and heart wrenching. Good read for those who like WWII Historical novels!
Can’t wait for the rest of the series.
Page Turner…
I really enjoyed the characters created by this author. I love the strength of Ursula. Her perseverance in the face of danger and her compassion for others deemed to be criminals or the enemy makes the reader want to know more about her and to see her succeed. The complexity of the situation keeps the reader engaged to the very end.
I love WW II stories and this one is based on true incident. Bravo!
I am always suspicious of story-telling by foreigners, but this is a German story written by a German national, so it passes the test. The subject (Germany during the Second World War) is obviously sensitive and widely explored. Nevertheless this story blends historical fiction and romance in a original way. The social factors of the period are also well taken into account, with some surprising truths. I am looking forward reading the other books of the series.
Excellent depiction of Nazi Germany with a strong heroine who had her flaws. Very believable. Loved it!
Different and action packed
Unsettling parallels to present day situations.
Enjoyed reading this book as I couldn’t put it down. Hard to believe people had to go through those terrifying experiences during the war. I really enjoyed this author, the first that I have read but looking forward to reading more!
War Girl Ursala was interesting. It brought out different viewpoints of family members living under Nazi Germany. I could understand the feelings of Ursala as she changed from a young woman who initially went along with the Party, but changed as she became more aware of the atrocities that were going on around her. The ending was predictable and definitely was a set up for more books. Having said that, I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more about other characters in the book in novels to follow.
