In this extraordinary book, USA Today Bestselling author Marion Kummerow weaves a story of strength, heartbreak, and coming of age in the Third Reich.17-year-old Lotte is headstrong and stubborn, impulsive and outspoken, and an avowed enemy to injustice. In Nazi Germany, this can cost you your life.Sent to the countryside by her mother to escape the worst of the war, Lotte longs to return to … the war, Lotte longs to return to Berlin. Bored and lonely, she seeks an escape from the tedious daily routine of her remote hamlet.
When four Jewish children turn to her for help, she finally finds a purpose: protect the children and help them to escape. Her act of humanity will cost her and those she loves, dearly.
Because there are worse things than boredom. There is Ravensbrück.
In the notorious concentration camp, girls die. Only women survive.
”…a wonderfully engaging tale of resistance and resilience that echoes across the decades.”

This book kept me glued to the words. It is so well-written it takes you to the heart of Nazi Germany and the appalling inhumanity of the Third Reich. Lotte is a German girl who is against the government. Fearing that her outspoken personality will get her in trouble her family sends her to her aunt’s farm. She hasn’t been there too long before she gets into trouble for helping three Jewish children escape their fate and for this she is sent herself to a death camp. Lotte is such a wonderful and human heroine that you suffer along with her as she tries to survive in a mad world where the government instills terror in Germans so that they will spy on each other and turn Jews in. The Nazi German government loses its humanity as it tries to take away the humanity of the Jews and do not succeed, for the Jewish people’s souls rise above the evil Nazis.
WW2 books are one of my interests
Sad, but informative.
Wonderful book that drew me in and kept my interest. We can’t forget these times.
Love the series.
I love reading books about the Hitler era and how cruel it was for the Jewish people.
It helped me undersyand the tragedy of the WWII for the Jews and any who helped them or opposed the war and the Nazis.
It was a good book about the times during the Holocaust. It almost read like non fiction.
Great book about women in WW2.
An easy to read book about a very sad time in Europe during WW1
The girl was rescued but you could tell their was much more to the story. From looking at the other books in the series it didn’t seem her story was really going to be developed
very much a formula book
War Girl Lotte: Life in the Third Reich by Marion Kummerow is second in a series of 11 historical fiction books about World War 2. Well researched and written, the book spotlights a German girl whose compassion for a Jewish friend and her siblings brings heartache and danger to herself and those around her. Through the trials of war and the inhumanity of evil people, love and caring is alive and working in secret. A lovely read.
Great look at times of wartime Germany for those being oppressed. Would love to read more
Absolutely an awesome read.. What a courageous young girl as were her sisters.
Loved it. Hauntingly memorable and reading this makes you know that history must be remembered and spoken about. Especially now
During WWII the German people were affected by war in many ways. Not all of them were Nazi sympathizers, yet they did what they were told to do.
This is a story of a mother and her 3 daughters, the father and son are away fighting for Germany. The oldest daughter, Ursula, works in a prison, second oldest, Anna, is a nurse, and the youngest, Lotte (17) is away at an aunt’s house helping with her 5 young cousins. When I think of WWII I think of the Nazis and all the terrible things they did, but I don’t really think about the German people and their struggles during the war. This book was eye opening and heart wrenching. Good read for those who like WWII Historical novels!
Not written very well
