In this extraordinary book, USA Today Bestselling author Marion Kummerow weaves a story of strength, heartbreak, and coming of age in the Third Reich.17-year-old Lotte is headstrong and stubborn, impulsive and outspoken, and an avowed enemy to injustice. In Nazi Germany, this can cost you your life.Sent to the countryside by her mother to escape the worst of the war, Lotte longs to return to … the war, Lotte longs to return to Berlin. Bored and lonely, she seeks an escape from the tedious daily routine of her remote hamlet.
When four Jewish children turn to her for help, she finally finds a purpose: protect the children and help them to escape. Her act of humanity will cost her and those she loves, dearly.
Because there are worse things than boredom. There is Ravensbrück.
In the notorious concentration camp, girls die. Only women survive.
”…a wonderfully engaging tale of resistance and resilience that echoes across the decades.”
“The truth must be told, and never forgotten.”
A heart wrenching novel of courage – perfect for readers of The Book Thief, Diary of Anne Frank, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

good historical novel
Great read.
I didn’t like the ending. Seemed as if the author couldn’t think of anything else so just quit writing.
The story was about a German girl who got herself into trouble with the Nazis and was sent to a camp. Horrific conditions! At the beginning of the story I was not impressed by the author who used contemporary slang in the dialogue, such as “it’s beyond my pay scale” and other phases which would not have been used in WWII times. However, the story kept my interest.
I love her characters and their bravery. Frightening to compare what happened then and what’s happening now.
I have read all but the last one and look forward to reading it.
Sad but true events during WWII. Fiction based on truth. Enjoyed it
Life of a 17 year old German Girl during the time of Hitler. Her courage and innocence lead to a very interesting story.
A nice story. I didn’t want it to end.
This is a book about man’s inhumanity to man. The evils of authoritarianism. Sad, tragic and ultimately loving. I will read all of the books in this series. The plots are based around the author’s family history and are all the more interesting for that.
A fantastic read from start to finish. Very well written and kept my interest all the way through.
LOTTE is a young, impulsive girl in the midst of Nazi Germany. She cannot tolerate the Nazi Regime. Reality strikes her hard when her outspoken nature leads to serious consequences.
Her strength, determination and motivation allow for survival when it hardly seems possible. Lotte is an excellent read.

This is an easy read with a likeable protagonist whose convictions lead her to make dangerous decisions. Really just a snapshot into the anti-Hitler sentiment many Germans felt, at great personal risk during WWII.
An entertaining work of fiction that also provides insight and illumination to a time and place in history. A good read!
I am enjoying this WW II series. Easy reads, and depicts how living was then and what was going on.
A WW story with a strong willed heroine who is less than perfect—a nice change from the typical war story.
Another story about the atrocities committed by the Nazis. Very informative.

Well written work that takes you to a very tough time in history. Characters are well developed. Good story line. Well worth the read.
It helped me understand the atrocities and how the people survived. Very realistic.
Enjoyed lots of history. Set in Europe during Hitler era.
