In this extraordinary book, USA Today Bestselling author Marion Kummerow weaves a story of strength, heartbreak, and coming of age in the Third Reich.17-year-old Lotte is headstrong and stubborn, impulsive and outspoken, and an avowed enemy to injustice. In Nazi Germany, this can cost you your life.Sent to the countryside by her mother to escape the worst of the war, Lotte longs to return to … the war, Lotte longs to return to Berlin. Because there are worse things than boredom. There is Ravensbrück.
In the notorious concentration camp, girls die. Only women survive.

Great WWII story.
This book took me on an eye-opening ride. I still think about the situations and characters! Brings history to life.
I have read all 3 of the girl books, Ursela, Lotti, and Anna, and they are excellent . I enjoyed them. I am going to read more of her her books. .
It was a good book for the kind of book it is. It was in no way what I expected. I expected a story about a girl who saved Jewish people in Germany. Instead, nearly everyone got caught doing the right thing and being punished for their actions. Learned things about that time that I didn’t know – didn’t want to know – but we all need to know the horror of that time. Read the book in one day. Twists I wasn’t expecting around every corner.
Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that this book is the 2nd book in a series. I plan to read the first book now that I’ve read it. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s a fast read and definitely kept my interest.
This book was one which, most likely, barely scratches the surface of how the people were treated during WWII. One can only imagine how they’d react in the same situation. I could identify with the main character but also wouldn’t have survived the war. This is a good read for those who have an interest in WWII but be prepared for a fluctuation in your emotions because they will be taxed. The author manages to get the reader totally involved as they are taken back to a time and event which should have never happened.
I like everything this author writes. They are all about WW II and she has so many different slants on the same subject. Great book!
Great story telling loved the whole series, would definitely recommend this book and the other in the series.
I have read many of her books and each one gets better. Excellent author
Painful to read, important to remember those who would put their lives on the line for others
Very interesting, if you’re interested in WW2!
This book beautifully developed the fear and the danger that the German citizens lived with during the rule of the Nazis. I didn’t realize how difficult it was for the people of Germany and the terrible conditions that they had to endure. Lotte was a delightful character who more than paid for her impulsiveness as well as her desire to help some Jewish children. But it was rewarding to see the lengths that her sisters would go through to rescue her.
This was an excellently written story with great characters. These types of stories are hard to read but necessary that we remember and don’t let it happen again. It is part of a group of books but can be read on its own.
Read in a couple of hours… one sitting… a very graphic description of the atrocities in Nazi Germany…. it will make you cry and wonder… about what man is capable of doing to other humans…
Part of the War Girl series. A good read if you enjoy WWII historical fiction, Read series in order.
A bit of a drudge at points, but fairly well written an historically pretty accurate. Lays the foundation for several in a series
I really enjoyed this read. Not all the endings were fairy tale endings which is more like real life and certainly more like things were during WWII. The book kept me turning the pages and was hard to put down.
Good read and hard to put down.
I enjoy Marion books very much. I have read several now and plan to read them all. She knows her facts and that makes a book feel real. The lead character Lotte is young, only 17 and thinks she knows what the right thing to do is but she will learn right from wrong the hard way. My heart broke when the 4 children were lost just when Lottery and her fend had found a way out for them. I can understand when people say the Holocaust never happened because what we read is very hard to believe. Not just in this book which is fiction but this fiction is taken from real life. People say “why do you cry? It’s only a book”. If the author is good books like Lottes Story will make you cry.
I found this book hard to put down and was reading till 3 am.
Well written and factual
