Three dragon lords saved me. Now they plan to make me their own. When the ShadowFell dragon destroyed my village, I alone survived the slaughter. A Drakoryan rescued me from where I clung to life in the bottom of a well. From the moment Lord Turin saw me, he was determined that he and his brothers would take me for a mate.To do so would mean breaking the rules. Drakoryans bring mates to the empire … mates to the empire only by special permission of the witches. But as war begins with the ShadowFell, everything has changed. The villagers from across the mountains have been brought here for protection. The time of sacrifice is at end, and the Lords of Za’vol are being allowed to take me as a specially designated mate – a War Bride.
I should be grateful that the Drakoryans saved me. But I know what they are. They are drake shifters. How can I accept their dragon side, when it was a dragon that robbed me of everyone and everything I held dear?
The Lords of Za’Vol are determined to mate with me, to form a lasting bond despite my fear of them. But I want something in return. I want to be brave, so brave that no man or beast can ever hurt me again. If the Drakoryans are to claim me, they must train me to fight.

Isla is the lone survivor of the attack on her village by the Shadowfell Dragons. Saved from the well she was found in by Drakorian Lord Turin, she is now a War Bride to three Za’vol Dragon Lords. Turin, Jayx and Zyvis must mate with Isla, but after the attack on her village, she fears all dragons. As each dragon brother meets with Isla, they must use patience and understanding to help Isla overcome her fears and help her learn to become fearless with the ability to defend herself. Isla asks each mate to help her lose her fears and teach her to fight back. The first two brothers earn Isla’s trust and gift her with confidence to defend herself in spite of having mates that would give their lives to keep her safe. One brother, the youngest, Zyvis has been taught by his father to be strong and not allow anyone, especially a woman, to rule him, so he approaches Isla with an attitude of superiority. That is not what Isla will put up with so she has her own way to show Zyvis she will not be taken by him, she will instead take him. War is coming with the Shadowfell and it is important that Isla and her mates finish their mating bond and they will become stronger for it in the end. Isla and her three mates have a big hurdle to overcome and Zyvis is keeping them from accomplishing the final bond with Isla. Although Isla is becoming stronger with each mating, she and Zyvis must find a connection that works. I loved the way Turin and Jayx find a way to build up Isla’s confidence and give her the love and affection she needs, while I worried that their mating will never be, due to the attitude Zyvis brings to the mating bond. I didn’t like Zyvis, but knew it was his father’s upbringing that caused it. The war that is coming and the failure to complete the mating could all be affected by Zyvis’ father and could mean the end of the Za’vol Lord’s future generations.
Standalone romance about dragon shifter lords and their bride. It is good to read prior stories to get the context but not necessary. The characters are not all likeable but interesting. Lots of super steamy scenes. The ending has some cliffhanger as it is one in the series. Recommended for quick easy and entertaining read.
I’m loving RH dragon shifter fantasy romances. Boy, is that some kind of long genre name or what? Whether that’s a legit genre or just something that I pulled out of my head, the fact is that Ava Sinclair’s books fall right into that category, so it’s a good thing that I get to read them, right?
Isla is a survivor, even if she’s had a really difficult time at the moment, but anyone who could last in the bottom of a well while her village is getting destroyed and all the maidens are being taken away and everyone else killed is going to be a survivor. Right now, she’s getting ready to mate to Turin, Jayx, and Zayvis, the Lords of Fa’vol. It’s going to be hard for her because she knows that they have a dragon side and she’s still terrified of dragons. She knows the Drakoryans aren’t the ShadowFell who destroyed her village, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t scare the living crap out of her.
There are a lot of changes going on in this book. In the previous books, we learned the world was one way, but after the last book, everything has changed because the world is changing. So, we have all those big changes going on, plus the way that the Drakoryans’ mates are getting chosen is getting changed. That leaves all kinds of things up in the air with everyone, which is already pretty scary. We also get a closer look at the family dynamics in an extended Drakoryan family. I really love the look inside the family. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I like how it works, but I love looking at it.
I need oh so many more of these books. All the books. All the stories. All the Drakoryans. I want to follow their children and grandchildren.
Drakoryan Brides, Book #3. When immovable dragons meet the irresistible force of a fated mate, what could go wrong? Everything!
When the ShadowFell awaken after centuries of sleep, the God of the Deep Places speaks to the muddled mind of Seadus, King of the ShawdowFell. Consumed with revenge against the Drakoryans, there’s one absolute. Utterly defeat at the hands of the ShadowFell twice before is unacceptable. A third defeat won’t occur. The God of the Deep Places has a well-crafted plan. Will the ShadowFell accept it? Isla’s village was destroyed, the young females taken, by the ShadowFell. The sole survivor, she’s rescued by Turin of Zy’vol. Now alone, she’s stripped of family and friends, in the unenviable position of terrified refugee. Against the rules and traditions of the Drakoryans, the Lords of Zy’vol would take Isla as their mate. Is this a disaster in the making? Isla’s knows one thing with certainty. Dragons destroyed her life. Dragons are now asking her to trust them to save and protect her. As Jayx, Turin, and Zyvis struggle to curb their dragons’ overpowering need to claim Isla, they know she’s no ordinary bride. Turin wins first rights but, in the process, brother turns against brother. Turin may be second born, but he’s no fool. He won’t force Isla. As dominant as the brothers are, when Isla demands something from each brother in exchange for her surrender, Turin agrees. And while Jayx, the eldest, is reluctant, he sees Turin’s wisdom. But it’s Zyvis, hotheaded youngest brother, who may just destroy everything. As King Vukurcis calls the War Council, no Drakoryan has the luxury of refusing. The brothers haven’t completed the mating bond permanently connecting them to Isla. If Isla can’t connect with Zyvis, House Zy’vol is ruined. For Zyvis, anger, insufferable pride, and jealously rule his every action. His father, Lord Udra, and the influence he holds over Zyvis doesn’t help. Events soon spin out of control. The witches of the Wyrd and the king’s own oracle, Ezador the Wise, have warnings and prophecies not just about Isla and the Lords of Zy’vol, but the ShadowFell and war to come. Even the might of the witches can’t stop this. The God and Goddess of the Wyld aren’t omnipotent. The God of the Deep Places is an unknown. Isla wants bravery and courage. Can she find it? Is there any common ground between her and Zyvis? Doubtful at best. The odds are unbelievably stacked against all four. Is there any way the four can make the crucial connection? Far more is at stake than the future of House Zy’vol. In the end, there’s only one answer. The question is, can Isla and the Lords of Zy’vol find what they need in the depths of their souls? If not, the entire Drakoryan empire may just be lost!
This set of characters is a complete departure from those in the prior books in this series, casting a unique perspective on the Drakoryan empire. There are challenges here never encountered before by any Drakoryans or their mate. That Isla, who lost everything, is expected to give everything to three dragons, her rescue from death notwithstanding, is unacceptable. She’s absolutely fascinating and unique in every way. A great burden has been placed on her shoulders. The question is, can she handle it? In my opinion, Turin, Jayx, and Zyvis are the most complex and problematic Drakoryan males yet. The Drakoryan brothers in each book have had separate and distinct personalities. They’re certainly not in accord except for the need to claim their mate. It’s the nature of the conflicts between Jayx, Turin, and Zyvis that are completely different. These three have nothing in common. Turin’s calm, rational, and analytical. Jayx struggles with his role as eldest. He’s patient, kind, but with an aggression that reveals itself at the worst of times. But it’s Zyvis, the quick-tempered, angry youngest his belief he’s owed respect, his need to prove himself to everyone, who holds everything in his hands. Ava Sinclair shines with the complicated plot and beautifully created characters in this book. The suspense and pressures on Isla, Jayx, Turin, and Zyvis to complete the mating bond in the face on inevitable war truly make this book riveting. Not once did I have a clue what was coming next. Tradition has to be tossed aside. The future of the entire Drakoryan Empire rests on the ability of these four to adapt and change. Again, this story wouldn’t be as remarkable as it is without the supporting characters. The witches of the Wyrd, Ezador, King Vukurcis, Lords Egir, Udra, and Orys, even Lady Klea, Sal, the Lords of Fra’hir, and the villagers, the ShadowFell themselves, play incredibly important roles. They add depth that makes this story captivating. This book captured me from the moment I started reading. Congratulations, Ms. Sinclair! This book is outstanding in every way. It deserves nothing less than five stars!
A final note. Be an informed reader! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don’t enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON’T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON’T ENJOY THE BOOK. It’s not fair to the author. She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you’ll object to a book’s subject matter before you buy it, you’re doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading
