A desperate earl…Cameron Blythe, the Earl of Hertford, is about to lose nearly everything he owns to creditors in the wake of his blackguard father’s death. The only way to stave off ruin is to find a wealthy wife, even if it means aligning himself with one of the infamous Winter sisters. Any of the chits will do. Except for Miss Eugenia Winter, that is, whose reputation has been tainted by … by scurrilous gossip.
A defiant lady…
When Eugie spurned an odious, fortune-hunting suitor, the last thing she expected was for him to spread shocking lies about her. Determined to stop her beloved sisters from falling prey to a similar, painful fate, she will do anything to keep the penniless Earl of Hertford from making a match with one of them. Even if it means cornering him in a darkened winter’s garden and kissing him herself.
A passion they can’t resist…
But when one kiss turns into another, and then another, the strictly proper Cam cannot help himself from falling for the Winter with the most wicked reputation of all. And Eugie? Much to her dismay, she’s discovering the irresistible earl may be everything she has ever wanted. Does she dare trust her heart, or will the painful lessons of her past prove too impossible to overcome?

Cameron Blythe, the Earl of Hertford, is desperately trying to escape ruination, which means he needs a wealthy wife thanks to his father’s debauchery before his death. He looks at the Winter sisters who have a sizable dowry to save him and his mother from ruination, that is all except Miss Eugenia “Eugie” Winter rumored to be the wickedest of the Winter sisters. She has a reputation and that will not do for the ever so proper Cam… Miss Eugena will do anything to keep Cameron from hurting one of her sisters, she knows he’s a fortune hunter intent on finding a wife. Cam soon finds himself developing real feelings for Eugie, the last woman he believes he should marry. It’s hard for Eugie to put her painful past behind her and trust in Cam and the love she feels for him. Will they allow love to conquer all and find the happiness they deserve. I loved this story and this series. I can’t wait for the Winter’s sister book. I voluntarily wrote a review for this excellent story.
Scarlett Scott is a wonderful writer. Wanton in Winter is yet another great novel by Scott. I absolutely loved the story between the Prince of Proper and the most wicked Winter. It’s a steamy read but the romance is the best part. They are a beautiful couple. Hertford is honest and sexy. Eugie Winter is wary and oh so desirable. The love they find is beautiful. Definitely a must read if you love romance with some heat.
What happens when the Prince of Proper is no longer proper? All it took was seeing Eugie Winter in a red dress. Cam, the Earl of Hertford/the Prince of Proper is debt ridden by his dead father. He needs a lady with a sizable dowry and a spotless reputation fast. Eugie’s reputation is ruined by lies told by a former beau. No hope of marrying for a title, no hope at all, until that first kiss between her and Cam. Passion rules when these two are together and can’t be denied. A fast paced steamy, hot, hot romance. WOW!!!
Eugie has been unfairly labeled as wanton and ruined by her jilted fiance. Cam is in need of a sizable dowry to restore his family’s coffers, but since he is the Prince of Proper, he needs a lady with a good reputation. These two are both polar opposites, but they cannot deny their attraction. After one dance, Cam realizes that there is more to Eugie than just a beautiful figure and a bad reputation. She is rich and “ruined”, but she is the woman for him. It’s not that easy for these two to just come together. Cam soon learns that there is much more to the rumors about Eugie and that he should not have been so readily believed them. Now that Cam is labeled as a fortune hunter he has to prove that he cares more for Eugie than her money. Can Eugie’s reputation be repaired? Can these two overcome many obstacles to have their HEA?
I love Scarlett Scott’s historical romances. Her books are always well-researched, steamy, enthralling, and satisfying!
I received a free advanced copy of this book. These opinions are my own and freely given.
A Sizzling Attraction!!
Oh my, I loved Eugie and Cam’s story. Cam is the “Prince of Proper” who needs a wealthy bride that is free of scandal. Eugie is the undeservedly tarnished Winter sister who will not be swindled by another fortune hunter. They should not like each other. They are totally the opposite of what each one wants. But, ohhhh they end up loving each other. They have a chemistry that burns and even though they try and fight it they cannot keep from doing inappropriate things with each other.
I am so glad they got their happily ever after and we got some hot and steamy love scenes! Wanton in Winter is one of my favorites of the series, really I think I have loved all of the books so far! I can’t wait to see what happens with Aylesford in book 4. I think he’s in for the ride of his life with Grace.
4.5 stars rounded up.
Left with a mound of gambling debts and crumbling estates since the death of his wastrel father, Cameron Blythe, the Earl of Hertford, is desperately trying to escape ruination, which means he needs a wealthy wife. An immensely wealthy wife and the infamous Winter sisters seem to be the only options with sufficient fortunes. Any of the sisters will do for the exceedingly proper earl, except Miss Eugenia Winter, whose reputation has been thoroughly dragged through the mud.
Since the man she thought she loved, (and who she thought loved her), turned out to be an unscrupulous fortune-hunter and spread hateful lies to ruin her reputation, Eugenia Winter is determined to make sure none of her beloved sisters suffer the same misfortune. She’s willing to do anything to keep the obviously penniless Earl of Hertford away from her sisters, even if she has to occupy him with her own kisses during her brother’s country house party.
But things don’t end with just one kiss and Cam soon finds himself developing real feelings for Eugie, the last woman he believes he should marry. For her part Eugie finds that despite all the reasons he is a fortune-hunting cad, Cam may be the perfect man for her, but overcoming her painful past and putting her trust in him may prove impossible.
I really did not care much for Cam at first with his judgmental tendencies and holier-than-thou attitude but he later acquitted himself well with a good apology and the passion between him and Eugie was so vibrant that I could forgive him. Eugie’s constant insistence on asserting that Cam only wanted her dowry got a bit tiresome, but was wholly understandable given her past experiences. Cam started out as pompous and arrogant but wound up doing some of the best groveling I’ve ever read. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oh boy. where do I start? This book will leave you needing a cold shower, feeling happy & hating the fact the story ended – Scarlett does have a way with words!
The handsome Cameron “Cam” Blythe, Earl of Hertford – known around society’s sobriquet as the Prince of Proper – has inherited a destitute earldom because of his father’s debauchery before his death & now it is necessary he find a bride with a large dowry so he can rebuild his title.
Miss Eugenia “Eugie” Winter (the wickedest, wanton Winter) has a large dowry but because of false rumors, a man she had rebuffed had spread about her, her reputation is ruined & the Prince of Proper, Cam could never look at her for wife material.
Cam & Eugie meet for the first time at a ball when they both were forced to dance with the other. Cam had admired her from afar in her red gown & she had given the handsome earl a generous peek too but both of them knew they would not suit. Then they danced & the sizzle began.
A house party given by her brother, Dev & sister-in-law, Emilia inviting eligible, titled gentlemen for Dev’s sisters to meet. Of course, Cam was one of the gentlemen invited. This couple went through all possible scenarios in finding happiness – it went from not only no but hell no to the point of catching my reader on fire.
Scarlett Scott has put together one of the best series I have read – I love the stories behind the wonderful Winter family. Although, this book can be read as a stand alone, I would suggest starting with the first one & learning about the family. As you probably can tell, I highly recommend this book & the whole series & there are still more sisters & stories to come!
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Starring, Cameron Blythe, Earl of Hertford and Eugenia Winters.
Omigosh, I am so in love with this couple. They were always kissing!! <- not complaining!! I swear, all of Scarlett Scott’s books should come with a water bottle fan so we can mist ourselves after each steamy scene. Cam is the Prince of Proper. Being scandal free was always more important to him than finding a wealthy wife to restore his family’s fortune. Eugie is twice shy when it comes to love. Her former fiancée only wanted her for her fortune and set about destroying her reputation when she broke ties with him. In Cam’s and Eugie’s checklist in life, they would not have been each other’s choice. But love has a way of ignoring what you thought you wanted, and instead giving you exactly what you need... and these two needed each other, badly. “From the beginning, I have wanted you in a way that consternates and perplexes me. You are beautiful, and you are wealthy, but you are all wrong for me.” ~Cam Gaaah!! All the feels, y’all. And yes, by the time these two found their HEA I was freaken bawling!! Such happy tears!! Scarlett Scott is one of my favorite authors of 2019. I am absolutely loving the Winter Series and can not wait for the other books to come out. She is firmly on my keeper shelf. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily reviewed it and the comments are my own. My star system... 5 stars: Ugly cried AF... major book hangover... characters were amazing... made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will be re-reading this story over and over and over again!!
Can the Prince of Proper tame the Wanton Winter or is it the other way around? This story was definitely nerve-wrecking in what would happen and how would everyone would feel about it. How can you really tell if a man wants your money or you? This is a wild ride with Cam and Eugie. There is sexual tension to burn the pages up right in front of you. This story ranks up there with the best of Scarlett Scott (and that is a tall order because they are all deliciously wicked and wonderful).
I received a complimentary copy from the author.
Eugie is the wickedest of the Winters or so the Prince of Proper thinks. Eugue has lost all faith in men and she is determined to protect her sisters. Cam is looking for a proper wife but one look at Eugie and proper goes out the window. This line from the book sums it all up. Cam taught her to trust, to have …”Faith in him, Faith in herself. Faith in their love.” The characters, even the side characters come to life. The writing is exceptional. I have to add that I’m so happy to read a book where the man has some morals and is not a rogue.
I am NEVER disappointed when I read one of Scarlett Scott’s books and this is no exception. This book hit all the check marks for me: humor, love, handsome gentleman and beautiful lady, false rumors set to rights, family bonds and beautiful love scenes. As usual with Scarlett’s books, the characters come to life abs worm their way into your heart.
This is a beautiful story of love, redemption and faith in the future. You will not be disappointed in this book!
I was given a free ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
What can I say but I did not want this book to end. I am really enjoying this series The Wicked Winters. You can read each book alone but I will tell you this one makes me anxious for the next. I love Cam and Eugie together. There is major chemistry between them. Cam needs to marry a wealthy wife and Eugie is wealthy but she has a bad reputation which is not good for Cam – he is very proper, well at least he was proper until he meets Eugie.
Prince of Proper, Cam, can’t take his eyes off Eugie – whose name has been scorned (wrongfully) – and he knows he can’t have her especially with the ton believing her innocence was taken before her wedding night (eye roll). Nevertheless, he can’t stop thinking about her or her luscious lips, body, or her everything. And Eugie? Jaded from her past, she can’t quite stay away either – even after promising herself that she would. And the grand plan that she would kiss all the prospective men who might have an interest in her sisters for only their money. Cam overhears the plan and her diss over their kiss and makes his own plan. One that doesn’t include falling in love – but things don’t always go to plan…
Favorite scene: When Eugie and Cam are alone in the hall in the middle in the night right before they almost are caught with his hands up her nightdress.
Love that this book is tied in with Willful in Winter, Grace’s story.
What I will say for every single book: I love the lust, steam and the lack of angst. It makes me tingle and happy.
I loved this book. I thought the characters were lovable and relatable. The plot was well paced and engaging. The love story romantic and very steamy. I just discovered this author and series. I love this series and can’t wait to read the next one!
Another wonderful continuation of the series
This is another wonderfully written continuation of the series. The plot is full of emotional twists and turns. The characters are beautifully portrayed, and have a strength to be envied. The book will suit all those that love steamy historical romances, that follows a fearful course of love.
Cameron Blythe the Earl of Hertford will lose everything if he doesn’t marry into a wealthy family. He is also known as the Prince of Proper, but he feels anything but proper when he sees Miss Eugenia Winter. Eugie’s reputation was marred when her former fiance started rumors that she was a loss woman. The love between these two was fast and hot. Cameron was willing to lose everything for Eugie because he loved her. Another fabulous novella by Scarlett Scott!
Eugie Winter has a tarnished reputation thanks to the lies of a former suitor she rejected. But society chose to believe a baron over the powerful and rich Winter Family. Cameron Blythe, Earl of Hertford, called the Prince of Proper, is on the lookout for a rich bride to save his indebted estate from his cruel and wasteful father. He along with many other gentlemen are invited to a Christmas house party hosted by Eugie’s brother (and head of family) Dev Winter and his bride, Lady Emilia. From their first dance, Eugie and Cam are reluctantly attracted to each other. Cam believes the gossip concerning Eugie and Eugie thinks him a fortune hunter. But from their first kiss they lose all thoughts except for each other. Sanity returns until the next encounter, and the next. But Eugie refuses to accept Cam;s proposal, even when they are discovered together in a compromising embrace. She refuses to be forced to marry except for love – like her brother and sister-in-law! Adventures ensue as they both learn to follow their heart – love is built on faith and trust in each other. Enchanting book in this romantic series!!
Eugie (gotta be the most unfortunate nickname in the series) had the great misfortune of trusting a spineless loser (Lord Cunningham) who broke her heart and spread some nasty rumors about her. Her brother’s increased efforts to marry off his sisters in order to gain respectability for their merchant roots has now made Eugie’s goal to protect her sisters from other unscrupulous fortune hunters even harder. At their house party, Eugie meets Cam (a marquess who has been working to live down his wastrel father’s legacy). After some instant sparks, some eves dropping, and a late night tryst, Cam realizes that he can’t live without Eugie no matter dowry or no dowry. Gotta love another well done HEA!
Dev Winter had arranged a house party for the express purpose of finding titled husbands for his sisters. Eugie Winter, whose reputation is in tatters because of a lying aristocrat, would make sure her sisters would not be taken in by fortune hunters. Cameron Blythe, the Earl of Hertford – the Prince of Proper – is just that: a fortune hunter. But as much as he needs money, a ruined miss will never do. If only he had eyes for anybody else but Eugie…
Cam and Eugie are charming and honest people; I liked them a lot individually and together. I was aware that WANTON IN WINTER would be steamy, and while the sexy times did not bother me – the numerous intimate scenes are beautifully and tastefully done – but I felt that as a consequence, the romance suffered a little bit. Their relationship seems built mostly on lust and physical attraction; we know them through conversations they have with respectively his best friend and her sister and sister-in-law, but we don’t see them talking much to each other about things that matter. I did actually find rather amusing that Eugie really is wanton when given the chance. But they were really cute together, even all overcome with lust.
The writing is gorgeous; flowing, airy, and witty; the bright and lively descriptions bring forth a crisp picture of the English countryside and the mansion is filled with intriguing characters. WANTON IN WINTER is a very enjoyable Regency romp devoid of the angst I had feared initially because of the set-up; problematic matters are settled intelligently and without any unpleasantness. Now, about Grace and a certain devilish rake…
Wanton in Winter is the third book in the new Wicked Winters series. It is based on the Winter’s family and this one is Eugenia “Eugie” story. Dev Winter’s was trying to find wealthy, titled gentlemen for his sisters to wed. Emilia, Dev’s wife, hosted a Christmas house party and invited several gentlemen. Eugie’s reputation had been ruined and she was trying to spare her sister’s the heartache like she had suffered from a previous suitor. She came up with a plan to weed out the fortune hunters who were only interested in the women’s dowries. The Earl of Hertford, Cam, needed money fast due to his father’s bad management of money. He was on the verge of having to sell some of his property but marrying one of the Winter sisters would save them. He was drawn to Eugie, but he had always been above reproach and her reputations was ruined. He tried to avoid her, but once he heard her plan to save her sisters, it was impossible to deny his feelings.
This was another wonderful addition to the series. Eugie was honest, witty, and strong enough to hold her head up even with all the gossip. Cam was the perfect match for her. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what mischief the other sisters are involved in.
