Orphan and widow Rachel West is returning home to Oregon after eight years of living with her guardian on the East Coast. Thanks to a lavish inheritance from her great-aunt, she now has the funds to realize her dream of opening the Silverpines Finishing School for Young Ladies.Unfortunately, a former co-instructor from Boston follows her to Silverpines, claiming a deathbed promise to look after … to look after her. Highly suspicious of his intentions, she sends off for a mail-order husband to provide a buffer between them; but she makes it clear in her letter she wishes to court first and only marry if they develop feelings for each other and the “good Lord wills it.”
As a bounty hunter by trade, Boone Cassidy is accustomed to far more dangerous tasks than ridding spoiled debutantes of their unwanted suitors. He fully expects the uppity Mrs. West to send him packing the moment she realizes a Black man has been sent to her aid. After laying eyes on her at the train station, however, he realizes he’s made a great many incorrect assumptions about the lovely headmistress. All of a sudden, thwarting the attentions of her dandified, self-proclaimed beau from Boston becomes a task worthy of his most gallant efforts!

Everytime I read one of Jo’s books I am reminded of why I do. This book is so wonderful and well written. This book flows and has romance and suspense but most of all.. Jo’s writing has me loving the characters and wishing for the story to continue even when its over
I enjoyed the story very much! It was super sweet. Falling in love at first sight is truly romantic! The story was really engaging and no part of the book bored me one bit.
When your entire world consisted of family loss and you needed to start over, go home where people know you. And that is what this story is about. About firsts like riding in an Oldsmobile made just for her, and her mail order husband/bounty hunter she requested that turned out to be black, and opening of the first all girls finishing school in this little town of Silverpines, Oregon. All the worries Boone had of what to deal with when he arrived being a black man were all set at ease when Rachel met him and immediately saw he was a truly handsome, Godly and very smart man. This was something that was not seen in the 1900’s a mixed couple, but neither cared as they loved each other. But Boone has his work cut out to catch Finneas as he was turning everyone toward the news of him courting Rachel. Boone put a stop to his harassment and figured out how to put him away so that the girls and Rachel would be safe. This was a great story with amazing characters coming from the mind of Jo Grafford. It needs to be on your to be read list!
At 16, Rachel lost her parents in a carriage accident. Her wealthy Aunt arrived in Silverpines to take her back to Boston to live with her. She excels at a top finishing school and becomes a teacher. She marries, but after just two short months she becomes a widow. Then she loses her Aunt and inherits her vast fortune.
After 8 years she returns to Silverpines, after the devastating loss of most of the men in town. When she arrives, she is not sure at first she arrived at the correct station. Everything looks new! She is here with a dream. A Finishing School for Young Ladies in the area. She sets it in motion, but she is being pursued by a bothersome former co-instructor. He claims to have made a deathbed promise to watch over her, to her husband… Is this his real reason for being here?
She is so upset that he won’t let up she advertises for a Mail Order Husband that is also a Bounty Hunter. Enter Boone Cassidy. He comes to town with the idea Rachel will be a stuck up, spoiled debutante. They soon set aside any preconceived ideas and begin a friendship and more.
Boone is a proud black man and he has been roaming the country as a Bounty Hunter for many years. He has his work cut out for him getting rid of Rachel’s unwanted suitor. Intrigue, a little drama, success and happiness.
This book has it all! I loved the entire story.
Jo Grafford’s characters are amazing and they draw you into the story immediately!
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
Jo Grafford writes a wonderful second chance romance with a seemingly mismatched couple. Rachel hires a Bounty Hunter as a Mail Order Groom in order to solve the problem of an insistent suitor but discovers her HEA in the process. Their road to happiness is filled with laughter, tears and suspense. I was captured with their story from beginning to end. I highly recommend reading Wanted Bounty Hunter.
What a fun and interesting book to read! I really enjoyed it! You don’t have to read all the books in the series. Each one is a standalone. Rachael is a wealthy widow from Boston who comes back to Oregon where she grew up and wants to open a finishing school for girls. The people in the town don’t think it will succeed but she wants to prove them wrong. However, a shady man follows her from Boston and begins to cause her problems so she hires a bounty hunter to be a “go-between” and protect her. The interesting thing is that he is African American and I found that super interesting, especially for the times. There are several other nationalities represented in the book too. Just one of many things I enjoyed! The whole story was fun, a little suspenseful and had interesting characters!
I loved this book!! I know, I say it every time I read one of Jo’s books! I can’t help it, I loved it!! I especially like that it’s an interracial couple, and that there are multiple nationalities in the book. Great read!
