“If you loved Dean Koontz’s ” Watchers,” you’re going to love this book.” – Kindle CustomerWhat would you do if you found an exceptionally intelligent dog only to discover he had valuable information inside his head that could change mankind forever? The first time I saw him, I had no idea he had recently escaped from a mysterious lab. … had no idea he had recently escaped from a mysterious lab. That he had been created there. I’d been living on the streets which was tough, but preferable to home. Then one day, I stumbled upon this mangy dog being attacked.
I saved him, but then he saved me, and I realized that Muttface wasn’t a normal dog. He was crazy intelligent. I’m talking Mensa levels.
When we sought help from a grieving veterinarian named Sully, his clinic was attacked and destroyed by mercenaries. So now here we are, the three of us. On the run across the country against a powerful enemy. Who are they and what do they want with us?
Through the danger, terror, and pain, one thing was becoming clear to me: I have finally found the family I always wanted and I will do anything to keep them safe…
Even if it means risking my own life.
The award-winning creator & screenwriter of ground-breaking BBC television show, Spirit Warriors starring Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones, The Defenders) brings you an action-packed thrill-ride in her debut novel readers unanimously raved about, describing it as a “Must-Read” and “Unputdownable”.
If you’re a fan of Marvel movie Logan, James Patterson’s Maximum Ride, series and stories about dogs (and people) in desperate need of family and love, you will love The Chase Ryder Series.

I love animals and do not approve of them being used in any experimental capacity. The main character is a very likable character and the 2nd main character is a Very loveable Dog. The 3rd main character is a bereaved Veterinarian named Sully and a interesting person who is going through a living hell. Excellent storyline and I look forward to more by this author.
The Narrator did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life where you care a lot about them.
This was an entertaining book from start to finish. When a genetically engineered dog befriends a homeless girl living on the streets, little does she know what will happen next.
Chase Ryder is tough, but when the dog shows up, she immediately feels a bond with him. Naming him Bandit, she soon finds out that there is more to this “Muttface” than meets the eye. When the dog defends Chase against a thief, he is gravely injured. Chase finds a Veterinarian to hopefully save Bandit’s life.
Jake “Sully” Sullivan is still grieving the death of his life Emma and has pushed everyone away. When Chase and Bandit show up at his clinic, he has no choice but to try to save Bandit. After Sully reports finding the dog on a lost animals website, the adventure begins. Sully, Chase and Bandit find themselves on a run for their lives as armed mercenaries come after the dog.
This book was reminiscent of some of Dean Koontz’s books involving dogs with enhanced intelligence. The story is fast paced and entertaining from start to finish. The villain of the story is just insane enough to make you feel sorry for him (in a way). The narrator does a great job and makes an already great story even more enjoyable. I look forward to continuing the adventures of Bandit and friends in subsequent books.
Wanted
Good characters that develop as this interesting story progresses, I really liked Bandit
The Narrator was quite good and made it easy to picture what was happening
“I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.”
Great Read!
I really enjoyed this book. It was action-packed and full of adventure. I absolutely adored Bandit! In fact, all the characters were fully developed and I was happy to follow the character growth in Chase and Sully as they became family, learning to trust one another. While the narrator did a good job and made it an enjoyable listen, it was sometimes difficult to tell the character voices apart – especially the men – but with the excellent writing this was never an issue. I would definitely recommend this book.
I had already bought the eBook when I saw an option to listen to the book for free in exchange for an honest review. Since I love audiobooks, it was a no brainer. This in no way influenced my review.
Wanted by Jo Ho captivated me. I was immediately pulled into the story of Chase, Bandit and Sully. The story has mystery and suspense, hope, sorrow, and some endearing characters. There is some non-stop action too! The author was wonderful with the vivid imagery and descriptions. The narration by Heathers Masters was spot on perfection. She gave the characters distinguished voices that fit them. Her emotions added to the enjoyment of the book.
Typically I do not listen to books that are labeled Teens, but I am so glad I did this one. I found this storyline to be original and its REALLY GOOD! I will definitely listen to more books in the Chase Ryder Series.
A well written story that will appeal to everyone and it hits another point that Jo Ho always does a good job writing about; in this case kids/teens running away facing homelessness and trust issues along with some other issues in this story that is worth reading and/or listening to.
A super-intelligent dog meets a young homeless girl and a veterinarian and they try to escape from the bad guys who experimented on him. Bandit reminds one of the dogs in Dean Koontz’s Watchers. I wish my dogs were like him! Chase, having been on the streets for 2 years, is very intelligent and seems older than her years. Sully, still mourning his wife, learns to care again while on the run. The book is full of action and moves at a quick pace. I couldn’t stop listening but I didn’t want it to end. The character development is excellent and the characters are quite likable. The chapters alternate between the different characters’ perspectives but that is not confusing at all. The whole story flows well. The narration was very well done and fit the characters well. This is a feel good book but it does deal with the serious topic of animal testing and experimentation. I want to thank StoryOrigin and the author for giving me a copy of this fun book. I might never have discovered it otherwise. I have already purchased the other 2 audiobooks in this series.
I offered to review this audiobook because I am such an an avid reader but also almost exclusively audio due to my schedule. Because of this, and the fact that a bad narrator can destroy a great series, I can be very critical of narrators. Especially when books have a single narrator required to speak with different voices for multiple characters. Most cannot do it without having some errors where they use the wrong ‘voice’ for the wrong character. Heather Masters does a great job in narrating this book! It was a very enjoyable listen and I didn’t have any issues distinguishing between characters.
As to the story, I am not one to give a lot of specific story details since I feel you should read the story for that. Wanted is book 1 of a series with great character development and plot twists that will keep you listening long all night. While it is book 1 in a series that I am excited to listen to more of, it also reads very well as a stand alone. You definitely won’t be disappointed if you decide to give it a try!

Jo Ho does a wonderful job with Wanted. Chase, Bandit, and Sully are empathetic, caring characters that you can’t help but want to come out winners in the end.
Chase has had an extremely rough life after leaving home because of mom’s boyfriend and is now homeless and untrusting of everybody and everything. But who can blame her. Sully also has lost a lot as he no longer talks to what is left of this family and has even pushed away his friends after his wife died. In walks Bandit, an adorable collie who has escaped from a research facility. He comes into Chase and Sully’s lives when they and he need it most.
I will so no more about the plot except that Forbes is a typical rich egotistical jerk who doesn’t care who or what he destroys as long as he gets what he wants. I to some extent do feel sorry for him but in no way condone anything he does in the book and feel he yes what is coming to him.
Jo Ho goes between 4 viewpoints in this book, Chase, Sully, the Mercenary, and Forbes the CEO. She is very clear as to who is telling the story in each chapter. Though this is a little over 400 pages long, it feels like a very quick read. Jo Ho gives us great background and depth to the characters as well as wonderful setting details. I love her writing and can’t wait to read Haunted.
I loved the message that I got while reading it about society and our lives. Remember to always be thankful for what you have but never forget from where you came as there are always those that are worse off than you. Also don’t hang onto the past so tightly that you cut off the present and the future. You never know when that someone special will enter your life (human or animal).
I am writing this honest review after reading it on iBooks.
I also listened to the audible book which was a really good narration.
This review for the audio book.
Wow, this is the first book by this author that I have ready or listened to but if this book is any judge of the authors work then it won’t be be the last. If fact as soon as I have finished writing this review I am off to see if there are anymore books in this series. Being a dog owner this hit so many heart strings for me and I did have a few tears but I still really enjoyed it. I liked the characters and the way they all bonded together, especially the dog. There was plenty of action, as they found ways to get out the different situations they found themselves in. The story is told from a number of the characters perspective and I thought that it really helped the story flow, as you knew why people were doing what they were doing.
I young runaway girl looking for food helps a starving dog and a strong bond is formed. But the dog is no ordinarily dog which becomes apparent when the dog saves the girls life and gets hurt in the process. Chase fearing she is going to lose her best friend she rushes him to a veterinarian clinic run by grieving widow Sully. After the operation Sully wants to learn more about the two strays that barged into his home and in doing so he makes a phone call that will change all three of there lives for ever. The dog seems to have escaped from a medical lab and his highly contagious. But if that is the case why do the men that have turned up to collect him look like soldiers and why are they carrying guns? The trio flee into the night, starting a big man hunt for them. Up against a rich, powerful and deadly foe can they stay one step ahead of the bad guys? One thing is for sure a young homeless girl might have a few tricks up her sleeve when it come to protecting her family.
I liked the narrator and thought she was a good choice for a teenage girl (the main character) and did well with the other characters too.
Good suspenseful read. Good book to enjoy. Can’t wait to see what happens in the book. “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.”
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.
This is the first book in the Chase Ryder series. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger ending.
I like the premise of this book – a dog has the ability to communicate [something that I wish my own dogs could do]. The story moves along at a good pace; is a bit predictable but, overall, held my interest. What I thought was a weak point of this book was whenever there was any difficulty or roadblock – without too much trouble, the MCs were able to overcome everything from the most minor to major problems. Once or twice to move the story along, okay, but every time? It would have been nice if occasionally the MCs worked for it. Second, I did not care for the ease in which the doctor was able to extricate herself from guilt in what she was doing to the animals.
The narrator, Heather Masters, was excellent and a real highlight.
I immediately fell in love with this dog. How could you resist? This is the most original series, that sparked my imagination and kept me turning pages! I could not put this down. This story did not go the way I thought it would, it went BETTER than I thought it would. Loved it!
Wanted #1 – This is a verified purchase, after getting the Instafreebie with 15 chapters, this book was purchased. Another well written book by Jo. I was impressed with The Boy Next Door, but this novel is just as great. Wanted has characters that are believable and well developed. The fast-paced plot was well thought out, full of intrigue and the pages just flew by, filled with suspense. My emotions were constantly in motion, varying continuously throughout the story. The reason behind the horror has you feeling for the evil person, but continuously pulling for the good guys. 5*
Haunted #2 – Another good book! A well written, suspenseful novel with a well thought out plot and interesting, believable characters. I read it in one sitting, it was so good. This author never fails to disappoint the reader. 5*
The Boy Next Door – A must read. Beautiful story, sad and uplifting. Well-written, compelling the reader to complete the story in one sitting. I’m so glad I contacted the author to review her novella. I want to read more of her work. 5*
What Doesn’t Kill You, Episode #1 – Totally awesome!, and it’s just the first episode. It’s a cliffhanger but it’s written in episodes, which I totally dislike in any book. That pet peeve aside, Ms. Ho has done a jam up job with the start of a new series. This genre is right up my alley and I love everything I’ve read by this author. The story starts with the introductions of the main characters and touches on their background. I’m sure as the pages grow, the characters will develop more with time and experiences. So far, I like all of them, and I usually don’t care for this age group, but I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the story. The last chapter pretty much gave a big hint of the future of these four young women and the roller coaster ride their lives will be now.
I wish I could tell what happened to Christian, but that’s a spoiler; I let you enjoy the story with fresh eyes and no heads up. The story line can go anywhere from here and I know the ride will be fast paced and twisted. I thank the author for the clean language; yes, real people do not use vulgar language, whether they’re Christians or not. 5 stars even though it’s in parts – made for the screen, not to make more profits.
This book would have been better without Chase. I know that’s a rough thing to say, considering she’s the main character and the basis of the series, but she’s obnoxious, and she does dumb things. Unfortunately, the dumb things pay off, so her character is unlikely to change, making it unlikely that I will read the sequel. One thing I will give the author: she did something that is rare in YA these days; she ended a series book without a cliffhanger. This could easily be a standalone. That tells me she is more invested in satisfying fans than in making money off of them, which is admirable.
Starts out introducing the villain. And then the heroine and H and on to the supporting characters. I like knowing what’s what sometimes. This book reminds me of my favorite Dean Koontz book but has a different plot and story line. Smooth, tight, smart, and easy to read. I enjoyed it and smiled as I reached THE END on my ebook.
