OMG- this book!! <3 <3 <3 I could NOT put it down! Witty, sharp, and sooooo yummy! I devoured it in one day!
Want is the second book in the Ryder Brothers series and tells the story of Jake, who is a former member of boysband which he formed with his brothers, and Marlee, who is a dancer and aspiring actress.
Jake and Marlee met on the set of one of his music videos. For Jake, it was like a bolt of lightning but at that moment Marlee was engaged, so Jake had to settle for friendship. However, the engagement was broken and Marlee needed help. In this way, our hero got a roommate. One would suppose it was a great opportunity for Jake to take his step. Well … Jake really values Marlee’s friendship and is afraid that his feelings will push her away. However, when Marlee needs another favor, everything can change. Because this favor includes … taking Marlee’s virginity and teaching her how to please a man. Jake is not very happy about this case, because he wants Marlee for himself, instead of preparing her to satisfy another man, but he will not allow any random guy to become her teacher.
Oh wow … what a story it was! I must point out that Jake is very different from his brother, who was the lead character in the previous part (Close by Laurelin Paige). Jake is just a sweetie. Marlee on the other hand is a little naive for Hollywood standards and I must admit that her character was a bit disappointing for me. Not only did she get involved in a suspicious deal with an agent, she still couldn’t see the feelings that Jake had for her (Hello, girl! Do you need glasses ?!). Fortunately, Jake’s character, his hot “lessons” with Marlee and funny insertions let me forget about what irritated me in this book. Scenes of banter between brothers were also a big plus, because they entered a lot of humor to this story.
It was an interesting read. If you like stories from friends to lovers, embedded in the world of show business, I definitely recommend it. The book is full of hot scenes, humor and it’s a quick and pleasant read.
These brothers are the stuff dreams are made of…
Want is all about Jake and his bendy new friend. Yes, I said bendy. Think contract…yes, a naughty contract.
Teacher/student role play…
And a V-card.
The former boy band hunk makes friends with the dancer from his video. Falls for her awesomeness and fresh outlook on life. Too bad she has other plans.

Loving the Ryder brothers
A sexy fun fun read with tons of heat. Marlee for me came off as a little quirky and cute with her needing lessons and all. She had me laughing. Their sexy times were actually at times HOT but also funny. Jake and Marlee took me on a journey of live and learn.
It’s a sweet and flirty read with some sizzle. There’s nothing better than a Rockstar out of LA that’s gets to teach a midwestern girl all there is to know about well everything.
He’s sexy and sensitive, and just about perfect… His story, his passionate and painful story, is beautifully written by Kayti McGee. It’s a friends to lovers tale, with a bit of a timely twist.
A successful child pop star turned rocker, Jake has a secret attraction to his “bendy” roommate Marlee. That attraction needs to remain a secret once she asks him for a friendly little tutorial between the sheets. Marlee’s a talented dancer with dreams of landing a major role. Unfortunately, she doesn’t think she can be successful without the help of a smarmy Hollywood exec…an exec with certain expectations. It’s an uncomfortable yet relevant topic that Kayti handles well.
With its white hot passion, fierce emotional pull, and Ms Mcgee’s signature humor, this book has everything I could have wanted for Jake and Marlee. I give this book 5 Glowing Stars!
Marlee and Jake are !!
He’s so completely head over heels for her and believes he is showing her with every look, touch, and action. He’s definitely more serious than Nick and not the manwhore Jonas seems to be. And putting her first, in every way, comes naturally to him.
Marlee has no self-confidence and is fighting an uphill battle in LA. Each demand, each insult deflates her even more. Jake is real, but she’s asking him to be something he desperately wants to be (and do) but she’s ignoring what is right in front of her. Friend-zoned…with benefits. Because it can’t be more. She’s there to make it in Hollywood, not fall for anyone.
I was truly crushing on Jake (and melting!). I wanted him to just tell her, but she wasn’t ready. It was a blow, but he put his heart on the line once again and gave her the most amazing gift. (Yes! Melting again!!).
Oh. My. Gosh. Jake!
Jake’s story was everything I thought it would be and more. I love him, I love Marlee and I loved their story, wow.
After finishing Close (the first book to this series) I knew immediately that I needed to read Jake‘s story Want and to say I’m happy I did would be an understatement.
Jake and Marlee have an interesting relationship throughout this book and it keeps you intrigued from the first page.
When Marlee needs help, needs a teacher Jake is there, he becomes her teacher and reading about this sexy teacher at work could damn well melt the panties off of a nun because seriously, Jake is so damn hot.
I absolutely love the chapters that happen to have Jake with one of his bro’s. I love seeing them interact, their teasing and their love it’s just amazing to witness. A brotherly love is mighty that’s for sure.
What I loved mostly about this book though is the passion Jake has for his music and the passion Marlee has for dance. Seeing them put in everything and give their all for the things they love is beautiful, I enjoyed that.
But now I just have to admit there were times where this book just made my blood boil and pissed me off mostly because I just wanted them together, I needed them together. I’m all for the HEA lol.
Kayti McGee did an amazing job with Jake Ryder’s book. I was so invested in his story that literally nothing else mattered. Jake captured my heart just like his brother did and I can’t wait to have Jonas there too.
First book by Kayti McGee and it was a fast, fun easy read. The story was sweet with a friends to lovers romance with plenty of steamy scenes. Definitely a sweet book and would recommend it to all Romance lovers.
Marlee wants to pursue an acting and dancing career so when her fiance dumps her for another man, she decided to take Jake up on his offer to move to LA and be his roommate! Marlee is trying to take charge of her life and pursue her dreams.
Jake Ryder was in a boy band with his brothers growing up. Each of the brothers are now pursuing their own solo careers. When Jake meets Marlee in Kansas City for a video shoot for one of his songs, he is instantly attracted to her but once he realized that she was engaged, he became friends with Marlee since they couldn’t be anything more even though Jake nurses a crush on Marlee. When circumstances brings Marlee to LA, Jake offers her room and board at his house since Marlee didn’t have any place to stay. The 2 get along too well and Jake feels that now that they are friends, he shouldn’t pursue Marlee romantically!
When Marlee gets her big break in show business, she is excited about the opportunity but there are some stipulations that she must decided whether she can go through with it or loss the chance to make it in Hollywood real quick. She asks Jake to do her a very favor, Jake at first isn’t sure if that is something he could go through but he also doesn’t anyone else to help Marlee. Jake agrees and their relationship changes real quick. Even though Marlee continues to think that what they are doing is going help with her career, real romantic feelings comes out between the two.
Jake realizes that he would have to let Marlee go so that she can pursue her dream but he hopes she doesn’t follow through on her agreements for fame. Marlee has to decide to take a risk on having a great relationship or to do something that she might regret to further her career.
OH, my heavens! I thought Nick was a god, but Jake just too it up a level!!
This book was so much more than I thought it was going to be. Jake is a true sweetheart and a man, who although he’s in love, doesn’t realize it or want it to be known, because the girl he’s fallen for is his bestie… and now, his roommate!
Marlee left her hometown and state to move to L.A in the hopes of becoming a star. She’s a dancer./actress and when Jake offers to let her stay with him, she jumps at the chance. Now, she’s been given the opportunity to star in a new show, and the producer wants to take her under his wing and mold her into that star she longs to be.
With his guidance, she’ll make it, but his contract comes with a few attachments, none of which she can fulfill, unless Jake agrees to help her.
She needs lessons… of a certain kind/
Jake wants to be her teacher… but he also wants to keep Marlee all to himself.
So, who is going to come out the winner?
The teacher or the student?
This was a hot, steamy and very sexy story. Jake talks the talks and OMG, does he walk the walk. There as some scenes in here that will genuinely melt your kindle, they are that HAWT!!
Jake will make you swoon, big time. He’s got it all, as does his brothers. I loved getting to see them all together but it was Jake and Marlee who ruled this story.Their passion for their work and each other shone brightly. I knew that Marlee was the girl for Jake, and there was one point I hoped she’d see the producer guy for what he really was, and in light of current affairs, it was even more important that she did.
Plus, Jake and Marlee two were meant for each other.
Will it all end well?

Want – to have a desire to possess or do (something); wish for
A pretty straightforward definition for something that has the capacity to consume one’s life and change its entire direction, and that’s exactly what happens when Jake Ryder meets Marlee on the set of one of his music videos, and even though the dynamics of their relationship doesn’t start off the way Jake wants it to, a time comes when there’s a possibility for something more than friendship between them and because this is something Jake has wanted for some time, he’s not about to let this opportunity pass him by and what he decides to do will either get him what he wants with Marlee or ruin what they originally had.
Because readers are privy to both Jake and Marlee’s perspectives, we know exactly how these two feel about each other, and even though I was amazed by how oblivious Marlee is to Jake’s true feelings for her, I think that it only adds to how sweet these two are together and how easy it would be for them to find love with one another if Marlee would only take a minute to think about all the ways that Jake has made her life better and more complete.
Kayti McGee creates a unique way for Jake to prove himself to Marlee and show her how to find her sensual side. Jake’s guidance is invaluable to Marlee, especially since she’s completely innocent when it comes to this side of things and while I didn’t quite understand why she would accept a job with the provisions set before her, as long as it served as a way to give Jake his shot with the love of his life then I was more than willing to see how it would all play out, even if it frustrated me to no end at times because it felt like everything was moving in slow motion.
After witnessing just how close the Ryder brothers are and how they live to razz one another in book one, I wanted to experience more of that in Want, and Kayti McGee gave me more Ryder brother goodness which adds to the dynamics of the storyline and offers a bit of comic relief when things get a bit unpredictable between Jake and Marlee.
I’m a sucker for a friends-to-lovers romance; I love it when a hero and heroine already have an established bond due to their friendship; it allows love to shine through regardless of how long it takes for them to get on the same page and it adds to their chemistry and connection, which translates perfectly in the scenes where Jake is teaching Marlee how to be a good lover and readers will definitely be fanning themselves with how electric things are between Jake and Marlee from their very first lesson.
Two Ryder brothers down. One to Go, and with JD Hawkins at the helm for the final book, I’m excited to see where he takes his hero and heroine and how much he’s going to make them work for the ‘More’ that they deserve.
4 Poison Apples
After reading Close I was exciting to read the next two brothers’ stories. Want is a sweet and steamy friends to lovers story about Jake and Marlee. I love their banter and the chemistry is HOT. I wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt but I look forward to reading the next book.
Jake and Marlee totally and completely stole my heart in Want by Kayti McGee!
Jake knew he wanted Marlee the second he set eyes on her, but of course, she was with another man and Jake couldn’t have her.
But when Marlee finds herself single, and in need of Jake’s help, he knows that all bets are off and he will get what he wants.
I LOVED this book by Kayti!! It was so well written, very steamy, and a great addition to the Ryder Brothers books. You will not be disappointed by this one!
Jake wants to make sure his girl knows he has her back, “so what do you need me to do, Marlee?” he finally asks from between gritted teeth. “Cut off his balls and stuff them where his eyes used to be?” Marlee likes to keep her man on his toes, “hey, guess what?” she says. “Not only am I improving, I’m also not wearing underwear.” I immediately drop my tentacle.” There are times Jake has to school his girl, “let me instruct you in another lesson. When a man asks if you’re sore, you tell him yes and why.” I really liked this book, I loved Jake he just had one of those personalities that you like and vibe with right off.
LOL I totally loved this book! I don’t read rom coms all that often but this was so funny! Marlee and Jake are best friends but like in a lot of opposite sex friendships, one wants more. Such a great fun story!!
I loved every second of this book. Kayti McGee writing and story telling is amazing. Loved every second didn’t want to stop reading it. It sucked me in. I heart this book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I found this second book in the Ryder Brothers series more humorous than Close. The story is aptly named since both our Hero, Jake, and our heroine, Marlee, “want” each other, but are afraid to cross their platonic friendship line. They first meet when she’s a dancer in one of his first music videos , after the brothers decide to pursue their individual careers. When she wants to pursue a career as a dancer/actress/singer in Hollywood, Jake invites her to move in with him so she can save money (wink wink). She succeeds with earning her first contract, but it carries a series condition. Since the story is told from a dual POV, we know Marlee’s hope in asking Jake will enable her to act on her feelings for him. Jake, to his credit, must try to use every ounce of his will power not to take advantage of Marlee’s seemingly innocent request.
I loved the interaction between these two, both as friends and also professional entertainers. Both had to learn something about the other’s business and try to respect the decisions made. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, but don’t know if it’s because of the ARC I received, or if we’ll see additional resolution in the 3rd book. This is a standalone story and a HEA which I was happy to see!
Hollywood can be a tough town to navigate, even when you have incredible connections. So when Hollywood veteran Jake, meets Marlee, the newly transported and beautiful woman from the out of town, he is drawn to help her in any way that he can. Only he has no idea just how much help she will need!
I was pulled into this story within the first few pages by the palpable chemistry between these fun-loving roommates turned best friends. It was hard not to love the two characters independently, and even more so, as we saw began to see their friendship transform.
Leaving their incredible friendship aside, the two shared a sizzling connection that was like dynamite just waiting to go off.
This story was not only a hot romance that continued to build, but it was also endearing story. I feel hard for both of these characters to the point that this book left me “wanting” to continue to see what their love story had in store.
As Always, Happy Reading!
“5/5 Beaming Brains!” – Lit-Up My Mind
Want is book 2 the Ryder Brothers trilogy and features Jake and Marlee. The Ryder Brothers were a boy band and were really popular when they were together. Their band is no longer together, but two of the three brothers (Nick and Jake) have solo careers. This story is told in dual POVs. Jake initially met Marlee on the set of one of his videos when it was filming in Kansas City. She had been hired as a dancer, but eventually got the job to re-choreograph the dance numbers in Jake’s video. After that, Jake and Marlee stayed in contact, became friends, and she moved in with him when she decided to move to LA to pursue her dancing and acting career. Since Marlee moved in with Jake, they became BFFs and Jake had secretly fallen in love with Marlee (Marlee’s feelings for Jake are also more than friendship). Marlee gets offered a part in a show and is also offered the chance to do something else to further her career. As a result, she asks Jake to help her with losing her virginity and showing her the “ropes” sexually and socially in LA.
Initially, I read an ARC that was unedited. The lack of editing affected my enjoyment of the story. There were things that I really liked about the story, so I decided to wait until the final version was released to post my review. I did reread the book with KU. I’m glad I did, because the final version was significantly better than the ARC version and I was enjoyed Jake and Marlee’s story much more the second time. At the time that I read Want, I had not read the first book in the series (Close by Laurelin Paige) but that did not affect my enjoyment of this book. The MCs from the first book were mentioned (and Nick made a couple of appearances), but they did not have a significant role in Want. So, I didn’t feel like I had missed out on anything by not reading book 1 first. Want is a cute story that features some of my favorite tropes: rock star, friends-to-lovers, roommates, and loss of virginity. It is a low angst, quick read. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. There were several times that I giggled at the shenanigans and banter between the two MCs. I loved seeing the friendship between Jake and Marlee transition into a romantic relationship. The author touches on a serious issue as part of Marlee’s story, but I appreciated the fact that she did it in such a way as to allow Marlee to maintain her power in that situation. I think this was a really good read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading rock star/friends-to-lovers/roommates romances.
Jake and Marlee worked for me. These two have an instant friend connnection and when life gets out of hand for Marlee, Jake is there to help her. With her career within her grasp, she needs her best friend now more than ever.
This couple is hot and their relationship blossoms beautifully. Want will have you flying through the pages to get to their HEA
